I haven't commented in a while but I was struck by what Lola said when she mentioned that she appreciates that she watched Frieren now and believes that if she'd seen it earlier she may not have liked it as much or would have liked it differently. The mangaka does something very sneaky in that she makes all of the characters from whom we see their perspective about age 15-40. Even Frieren and Serie who are obviously much older she's made the decision to give them a halted emotional maturity around that age. And when we meet older characters like Denken or an older Heiter we encounter them filtered through the perspective of a younger character. The mangaka in Frieren taps into a sorrow that life has passed/is passing them by and the quest is ultimately to reclaim that lost life. I think if I were to watch Frieren in my 60s or older I would not like it because the emotion is often very saccharine and the concept of losing people close to me wouldn't have the same resonance because I likely would have already lost so many people close to me and that cord would not be as taut. But in that 15-40 age range people are often experiencing their major loss to a death and that's why the first episode begins with a death--to trigger that quest condition. Thank you for reacting to one of my favorite shows and for the charming conversation after each episode. I'll put forward Chihayafuru for hopefully future consideration when looking for a longer show.

But i was wrong lol, people were 100% right when they said it was made for you. This show is just so much love it is too beautiful. Personnaly, i would have still prefered to have wait until s2 to start it but i loved frikyuu friday so no regret. + Watching frieren now was the best decision for you, you needed that show. So i'm glad! Now you didn't talk at all about the next short anime, maybe you will do a tier list next week before starting immediately a new anime? I would love that ! I'm still recommanding pluto, it's one of the show i want you to react the most. It's one of the best anime out there i know you'll love the messages of the show. Watching pluto after a show like frieren will not disappoint! Psycho pass would be good too i think, it is so different from what you watch so far, it will be a welcoming change. it's perfect for reaction, it'll make good reviews since it tackles society issues.

I didnt watch frieren when it aired, but I knew I would love it, I just did not know it would steal my heart. With only 28 episodes, this show has become one of my favourites of all time, it has all the elements I adore and love, and I just know that with more seasons coming out, it very much can place itself in my top 3 of all time (it already has tbh). I can't wait to see more of these fantastic characters and watch you girls react to it with me (:

It beautifully balances heartwarming moments with deeply emotional and cathartic scenes. The show heavily focuses on the idea of forming meaningful bonds outside of one’s biological family, which is central to the series’ emotional appeal (similar to frieren and violet evergarden in that aspect). The show transcends genres, blending slice-of-life, fantasy, romance, and drama, which makes it appealing to a wide audience. AND ITS A FINISHED ANIME!!!!!!!!!!!

Watching your discussions made me notice so many details I missed during my first watch, and I truly appreciate that. While Frieren still might not make it onto my personal list of favorite shows, I always love your reactions. The way you connect with the story on an emotional level while still offering insightful analysis is something I deeply admire. With all that being said, I can't help but again campaign for my current favorite anime to you, although I know very few people here have heard of it: Bang Dream It's MyGO! And the second part of this amazing girls band story, Bang Dream Ave Mujica, just released its 1st episode on January the 2nd. I'm well aware that it can't win any polls here, but still, I have to say that it is the perfect time to get into MyGO right now. MyGO and Ave Mujica together makes a complete, self-contained, standalone story that requires no prior knowledge of the Bang Dream franchise. They have almost no direct connection to earlier Bang Dream works. So new audiences have absolutely no need to feel burdened by the previous Bang Dream series. You don't need to watch them to enjoy MyGO (but please remember, you DO need to watch MyGO first to watch Ave Mujica!). MyGO only has 13 episodes so it won't take you much time to finish the 1st part of this amazing girls band story. Don't be intimidated by the 3D animation because it doesn't matter. The brilliance of MyGO lies in its exceptional script and deeply nuanced character development, which elevate it far beyond a typical band-themed story. And please don't go into it with the pre-perception that it would be a boring, slice-of-life story because I ensure you it's not. You can see MyGO as a thriller, a suspense story. (Aren't you curious about how a girls band story without any supernatural or crime elements can become a suspense story?) Almost every episode after ep3 ends with a cliffhanger leaving you anticipating what's next. If the storywriting is not that good, MyGO definitely couldn't have achieved such popularity among Japanese and Chinese anime fans. I even dare to say that MyGO is to Chinese anime fans what Arcane is to Western fans. I've seen tons of people writing essays of 10k+ words in each episode's comment section to analyze the main characters' relationships, their mentalities, etc. I truly admire this level of passion. And even though MyGO and Ave Mujica have darker themes than shows that you usually love, I'm sure you will still enjoy the main characters' emotions, relationships, inner struggles...And I have no doubt that in the end you will love the core message MyGO conveys. This is how I'm seeing it right now: On Frieren's first journey, with Himmel the Hero, it's like Himmel said all his parts of a conversation (like when he gave her the ring OMG Swoon!). On this second journey, with Fern and Stark, Frieren is finally hearing him and responding. I think the journey is the conversation she's having with past friends and loved ones. I think Frieren perhaps sees Fern and Stark as little mini Frieren and Himmel also. Or maybe she's projecting onto their relationship to understand her own. I'm not sure but I think there's something there.

Serie practically wound him up and aimed him at Frieren like a child's toy in the previous episode. I'm worried she will use the little psychopath to finish the job. I wish that girl had died. Wirbel was correct, Uwel's death would make the world better... and I NEVER say that... unless I'm talking about MHA's Bakugo (he ruined that show for me) lol No more Frieren for a while. I don't like the idea of you watching the first few episodes again so soon. I think the first series should settle in to your souls for a good amount of time first. That's just my input. I'm easy really. I'll watch the videos if you post them but I think waiting at least until we have a firm date for season 2 dropping would make it more meaningful. Think how much you will miss the characters by then, then you get the lift from the season 2 release date and then you rewatch with that warmth in your heart. I'd love that myself. I'm worried about your next choice now. I watch your Haikyuu reactions but I'm not really into the show. Frieren's the only thing you've been watching that I truly love. What if they vote for something awful that everyone in the world loves except me, like Dan da Dan, what will I do? I'm getting Frieren withdrawal symptoms already. Maybe watching those first few episodes again isn't a terrible idea ;) LOL

You guys are amazing and I didn't think I would need or like reactions but what I truly love is your discussions and how much time you take to discuss each episode and the genuine emotions. I am not big into anime, every now and then I watch one but they have to be amazing and hook me in. This one hooked me from the first few seconds in episode 1 and it was because of the feelings it conveyed, the emotions. This was my favorite piece of media from the last few years and I didn't even bother googling similar shows after I was done with Frieren, because I know there aren't any. There are probably many, many amazing ones out there but none that will make me feel like Frieren. Frieren, is like a my bed, cozy, familiar and I sleep great in other places too, when on vacation or when I am somewhere else, but my own bed is just another vibe, thats how I feel with Frieren. Anyways, really really really love your reactions and discussions and so eager for Season 2. Much Love.

As always, i am super impressed with how good you two are in understanding and noticing details about shows. It took me a lot of rewatchs to notice that the shot of Himmel in the last scene had already appeared in EP 01, but Lola noticed immediately lol. However, my favorite scene of this ep is the conversation with Lernen. He says to Frieren that he "doesn't want Serie to be alone in the Future". That is the exact same thing Himmel told to Frieren in EP 07 (even the context is basically the same). This show does a lot of storytelling through parallelisms. In this case, it felt like they made a deliberate mirror between Lernen's relationship with Serie and Himmel's relationship with Frieren. This method is so effective that i don't even feel angry at Lernen for attacking Frieren there, because the show connected in my brain the love Himmel has for Frieren to the love Lernen has for Serie. The types of love are probably very different, but it was enough for me to empathize with Lernen desperation to leave his mark in history. Himmel had the opportunity to save world and make statues all over. Lernen does not have that chance, so he is trying whatever he can.

I love that it starts after they defeat the big villain. I would have been fine if this show had no action at all. Having good action, on top of everything else great about it, is just a bonus.

2025-01-04 01:07:35 +0000 UTCFarewell, Frieren Fridays however I have to start my campaign for the next anime. I think after 3 years of being on the polls it's finally time for Steins;Gate. Every time Steins Gate entered the poll a series of unfortunate events happened, pun intended, first Mob Psycho beat it by 10 votes or so I remember, then in the next poll HxH was recommended and swept everything, then Frieren did the same :( I've read some complains of the show here about it being a bit sexist, too otaku for them or about the childish behavior of some characters but I think they're way over-exaggerated. The source of most of these complaints comes from a side character who indeed has "weird" comments but the show doesn't endorse him and he actually ends up being harmless. Seriously, there's no way LM won't end up loving the main duo and their chemistry. It also has a lot of potential for discussions. It's the anime that has been in second place for 12 years in a row on MyAnimeList (IMDb for anime) only behind Fullmetal Alchemist for a reason. On any ranking site or list whether it's anime-only or not, it always ends up in the top positions. I hope this time S;G wins.

There are a handful of other fantasy shows that I think were as well written (or close to it), but nothing that feels quite like this one does, I don't know how to explain it well.

It's also one of my favorites now, and I can't wait for what the rest of the series has in store. also, it doesn't qualify for the replacement show here, but I am going to start campaigning for Fruits Basket (2019) to get on here sometime. So many things you loved in this show - exploration of themes, emotion, relationships, great female characters, having tragic elements but ultimately being hopeful- are all things that Fruits Basket brings to the table. <3
