The Sopranos 4x01 Reaction

The Sopranos 4x01 Reaction

Comments

They’ve seen True Detective S1

Darrach

True detective season 1, and Fargo all seasons.

John

Came here to say MAD MEN and I’m pleasantly surprised to find everyone here already!

Julien

You haven’t seen the pinnacle of television until you watch mad men.

Df

just thought of a good one.. Mare of Easttown.. mini series on HBO

Zach D

I'm so up for Mad Men, probably my favorite show... but i will throw out this curve ball: Hell on Wheels.

Robert

Somewhere out there is a guy that chuckles to himself every time he watches that scene, wishing he could tell the world: "I made him say that." But deep down he knows that nobody will believe his story.

Marcus Cato

Sometimes we just overanalyze things to the point where we Mandela effect ourselves.

Marcus Cato

And listen to Led Zeppelin

Clay F

Agreed it’s definitely one of the best limited series out there. Always gives me a craving to drink though lol

Alberto Cruz

3 seasons and a movie that wraps it up

Alberto Cruz

Check out true detective season 1..only 8 episodes and its up there with sopranos

3ternaL

The earlier seasons were good, but i think it went off the rails in the last couple seasons

The Josh

Was just about to comment this. snowfall is one of the best shows I’ve watched in a long while

Brodie Chapman

Lola already watched Dark

Layrone Williams

Would love a Mad Men reaction. Also would love Boardwalk Empire. Both great shows you would love.

UNC

I don’t know if this will be seen, but a really good show that I recommend watching is Snowfall. It’s set in California in the 80s during the crack cocaine era

Celina Copeland

DEADWOOD

Louis Ferdinand Celine

Mad Men is the obvious choice people are suggesting, but I think a really good one for them would be "Dark" on Netflix. It's a complex time-travel drama from Germany. Only ~30 episodes total so not a long running one. They are very analytical and I think they would love it.

Abacus

There's a lot of great show left to watch. The shield, a classic drama often forgotten. Rome, deadwood, boardwalk empire, the leftovers ( from the creator of lost), mad men

J. Mýrk

3 seasons actually, but yes, definitely cut too short

James Oleinik

I think Chris said it didn't matter because Tony wanted the guy dead in any case.

Clay F

+1 for "Halt and Catch Fire" and especially "Boardwalk Empire"

Clay F

I'm just gonna echo everyone else and recommend Mad Men if you want one of the "classic" shows with immaculate character work like The Sopranos. It's also created by a Sopranos writer (Matthew Weiner, though he only started writing for the show during season 5).

IanJ

Please don't put spoilers for what's coming up. How hard is this? Just let them watch it. (Edit: he removed the spoilery bit)

Abacus

Mad Men is the last major classic you guys haven't watched. By far your best option. Others have mentioned Deadwood which is very good but only 2 seasons.

Edward Lewis

Don’t know if someone already said this (there are many comments here lol) but episodes like this are somewhat reminiscent of Walt and Jesse’s relationship based on how often Chris is manipulated

Knot

the opening credits are always the same lol

Zach D

THE MANY SAINTS OF NEWARK boardwalk empire, dexter, The Offer (about the making of The Godfather) True Detective, Seinfeld. Yellowstone is decent for a few seasons, Queen’s Gambit, idk if you’d enjoy it but maybe some people would enjoy your reaction to Entourage 😂(doesn’t age very well) Ted Lasso, Chernobyl, Sons of Anarchy

Zach D

Janice and Ralph together when they killed Rosalie’s son and brother in law The Squirrel at the beginning of the episode that Tony is disappointed to see is Christopher, Tony wanted a duck (his kid) but he “has been dealt” Chris

space colon

they've mentioned before that they've seen it in their own free time

ODIS

I don't know of a television series more perfect and suitable for your personalities than The Leftovers. Take a look, please. No show transmits such powerful emotions.

Saúl López

One thing I'll add is that Chris has always wanted to be in the mob, and there are times where he feels its not the old school way, those old traditions about whacking guys and retribution and the hard old school rules... and he is constantly disenchanted with the realities of it in the modern state of things. Having to hustle and scrounge to make the kick ups and being treated like crap from Tony who he has wavered in his respect for him. Here Finally, Tony is giving him that old school mob honor moment where its payback for this guy who killed his father, and now it's giving Chris that feeling of really truly being part of the mob- this thing he gave his life to. They are giving him something personal and meaningful.

Robert

Looks like Mad Men is gonna be the clear front runner, but Six Feet Under and Deadwood definitely need to stay in the conversation. Classic shows from the golden age of HBO, which don't get enough love these days.

The Josh

yes, to echo everyone, Mad Men definitely reaches similar heights to Sopranos, Wire, Breaking Bad, BCS, etc. Plus I remember absolutely loving how every scene was dripping with subtext on classism and sexism

Mahni Alizadeh

Deadwood for sure. Such an underrated show. Fargo is another excellent choice if neither of them have seen it already

snaps

Everyone is already saying it, but Mad men is definitely what should be next.

Cole

A lot of people have suggested "Mad Men", and I'll throw my support there in an instant. That would be the perfect follow-up show.

JBK405

Thankfully they've both seen Lost so we don't have to relive the second-worst writing debacle in TV history (GoT takes the #1 spot)

Michael M

Haydu actually doesn't say "I'm sorry" in that scene, it's the show on TV which we hear. It plays over the whole scene. The characters on the TV are talking right at that moment, and you can hear them still going as Chris and Haydu keep talking. It's very hard to tell without analyzing the audio, so most people assume it's Haydu.

JBK405

Watch HBO’s Deadwood next, it’s a classic

James Oleinik

The "a don doesn't wear shorts" line is actual feedback the show got from someone in the Mafia

Alexander

+1 for "Sharp Objects" (2018) (8 episodes) (w/Amy Adams)

Clay F

A big +1 for Dexter

Clay F

+1 for Boardwalk Empire. Has Michael K. Williams (Omar of The Wire)

Clay F

I second Barry. 10/10 show.

Richard H

Don Draper the main character is such an interesting protagonist. Plus, focus on female characters.

Clay F

Deadwood would be amazing.

snaps

Haven't heard that name in a looong time. It goes in the short series slot, but they're pretty backed up right now. I think they'd like the show

Isaac

Girls, watch Barry. It's also on HBO and you will not regret it

Anton Moskovskyy

+1 for Deadwood. One of the greatest TV shows of all time

HeyJohnnyItsMe

The Sopranos, The Wire and Mad Men are the big three of classic prestige TV. You've only seen two of them, so you definitely have something else to look forward to.

Rynsen

If they haven't watched them: X-Files and Person of Interest are my suggestions.

James Long

'Lost' is the way to go after this.

JorgeRDSM

If you really think that about 'Lost', maybe you need to watch it again.

JorgeRDSM

I loved LOST when it was first on, pity it went shit and nonsensical. Seeing how inquisitive Lola & Milena are when watching Sopranos — always analysing things intently and saying "where is this story going to go?" and paying attention to little hints of things to come — it would be absolutely hilarious seeing them try to make sense of an incomprehensible mystery which the writers are just making up as they go along and never gets explained.

Abacus

After this watch Barry!!! You will love it.

Andrew M

A couple of recommendations you could put on the poll: Twin Peaks( I think Lola have seen this show), Fargo, Oz and Deadwood. I know there has been a push for Mad men but I’ve never seen that show so idk.. I’m open to watch it with you girls if that show wins.

Jack SV

Yup that definitely cause the shift in the opening. There was also actually a slightly longer break between this season and the previous season compared to the breaks between the first three seasons.

Veya

LOST is an absolute classic!

Selva

Both The Sopranos and The Godfather opens with an explicit line about America in the opening scenes before it recedes back into the background and subtext. Tony in the first episode talks about how the best is over and the dread he feels but can't articulate what exactly it is. There was always a lighter touch of broader America in the first three seasons but starting this season they ramped up the feeling of malaise to more consistent dread and mortal inevitability. The tone shift is pretty apparent here but there were subtle indications like autumnal or early winter undertones set in various scenes in prior seasons reflecting these ideas.

Veya

Would recommend "Justified", "The Shield" and "Oz" if you have not watched already. Hope some of these can make the poll! .. oh and also "Halt and Catch Fire" and "Boardwalk Empire"

Quasirng

What a season we have ahead of us 😂also Lola picked up on Tony’s manipulation of Christopher immediately in the car scene. Not many reactors catch that first time. Kudos 👏

Johnny Bxb

Mad Men, Deadwood, The Shield, Boardwalk Empire, the classics are far from over. Nothing comes close to The Sopranos in my opinion but there are a lot of briliant shows out there

Αντρέας Λίτσας

Mad Men is absolutely on the same level as all of the shows mentioned AND it's similar to Sopranos in structure and type of character building, owing to yeah, being created by a Sopranos writer. So it's gonna depend on how much they actually like The Sopranos at the end. It's another seven season show.

Veya

The actor Lola is talking about is Will Arnett, he's been in a lot of stuff. I know him mostly from Arrested Development. Also, does anyone know if they've seen Dexter? That's another classic show.

BNJ

XYZ is pretty fucking awesome though, not gonna lie.

BNJ

Please add For All Mankind to the next poll. At least have it on the radar. It is sooo good.

Damien Fenton

Mad Men would also be a perfect transition after sopranos because it is by David Chase's protege

Mitchell

The early release messes up my whole sense of time: “LM Reactions uploaded a new video 2 hours ago. I should really go to sleep now." Time now: 8:30pm. :D

Robert H.

Mad Men!

Mitchell

This is the one. Such an underrated show

The Josh

I vote for a sharp objects reaction

flawlessmisery

Quasimodo and his predictions 😂

BNJ

big big agree. Mad Men is a must too, but I'm pretty sure Six Feet Under would be their absolute favorite.

Solomon Wong

Oh yeah… I’d forgotten about mad men. Definitely a classic. And created by one of the writers in SOPRANOS.

Víctor Malheiros

THE DISRESPECT. Mad Men is one of those classics!

Isaac

@Isaac unfortunately it regularly gets passed up on polls. The show is long overdue for a renaissance in interest like other old shows have had in recent years. It mainly relies on its core fanbase that is very passionate which I am part of. I've watched Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Succession etc. and still to this day Mad Men is my absolute favourite!

bondbond53

A big +1 for Mad Men. MAD MEN (2007) (7 seasons). RT 94%. IMDb 8.7 --Best TV Shows all time = Rolling Stone #7, Hollywood Reporter #1 --56 Emmy nominations, won 16 including for Outstanding Drama Series --Golden Globe 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 winner Best TV Series - Drama

Clay F

Lola has seen Succession

Isaac

I expect it to be a frontrunner, don't you worry

Isaac

Btw, with the exception of the shot of the twin towers which was replaced with generic buildings, the intro is literally identical to before, same audio and video (obv different cast names). It's not zoomed in, or different speed. The song hasn't been re-recorded. The whole intro is always exactly the same, you are imagining things because you're paying attention too much.

Abacus

As the new season begins, please can commenters try to resist hyping up any particular episodes or events coming up? Last season's comments were stacked with "omg you're gonna love XYZ, I can't wait until you see this classic episode" etc... Guys just chill and let them watch it themselves.

Abacus

First season after 9/11 so the twin towers are not in the intro anymore!

bondbond53

PLEASE watch Mad Med after The Sopranos! It is a classic!!!! It was competing at the Emmys with Breaking Bad every year. I would say it's the clearest inspiration to Succession which Lola loves so much and Don Draper the main character is one of the clearest successors to Tony Soprano in regards to an antihero protagonist

bondbond53

You can Watch, Succession or House of Cards next.

Diego Castillo

44:10 Yes Paulie is in jail because the actor had back surgery. How in God's name are you two so perceptive that you even get that. You two are like building video game characters where you allocate all 100 skill points to perception. I believe when you are watching these shows it actually just looks like The Matix code to you. Lol.

Michael M

It's so crazy to me that Chris doesn't take issue with the idea that his father's killer got to stick around for decades because "he was useful." I feel like Chris knows from the start that it's a lie, but he's too tied to the life to do anything but act as if it's true.

Solomon Wong

why do you do that? you took all the air right out of my punchline

snaps

When Haydu crawls away from Christopher he repeatedly shouts "I'm sorry! I'm sorry!" before Christopher shoots him. I don't know what that means. BTW, the song in the beginning - One of the best uses of a song in a show, ever. Also just FYI - 'Paulie' is in prison because the actor underwent back surgery at the time and couldn't do much so they wrote his character in jail for that time.

Karan Verma

james gandolfini(tony soprano) was called in the middle of the night by a stranger and said "you're doing good until now but a don doesn't wear shorts" they used that line on the show

Darlan Felix

The difference you (astutely) notice in the intro is because they removed the World Trade Center towers after 9/11.

Derek Suboticki

Christopher my top favorite characters

ashton

Watch Six Feet Under. That's a classic. And absolutely a gem of a show. Also, considered to be in the same league as Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, The Wire etc., just extremely underrated. But I am sure you two would love it. It's impossible not to.

ajs

There's no stigmata in posting this early you should do it more often :)

Michael M

Wow it's not even 6pm

sakurabraus

I refreshed my memory about the storylines in this season. I think LM are going to love it.

Damien Fenton

After this you gotta watch Twin Peaks, it’s the first classic that started all of this
