2024-12-13 23:41:07 +0000 UTCThis episode has one of the deepest Jersey-isms of the series: When Chris gives Adriana the club he says that she will make it the hottest place since the Stone Pony. The Stone Pony is a club in Asbury Park, and is regarded as a crucial part of the NJ music scene. The Stone Pony is where Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band played when they were starting out, and most big acts that tour through NJ make it a point to play there at least once. if you don't know this history, then it's just another beachfront bar like any of a hundred others along the Jersey Shore. But if you're "from Jersey" then Chris's line takes on a whole new meaning. 'Crazy Horse' is a bad name for the bar, but it's a reference, not just random words. Crazy Horse was a leader of the Lakota people in the 19th century who lead armed resistance against the expanding USA. He wasn't from NJ so there's no connection, they're just grabbing some famous figure and slapping his name on the building.

We see Jackie Jr. posing like Vito Corleone while listening to a request for help, just like the first scene in The Godfather. The difference is of course, Jackie Jr. is just a wannabe gangster while Vito is an actual one. He isn't even made and he's already playing a mob boss, which doesn't end too well for the person asking him for favors. We also have Meadow mentioning Davey Scatino, the guy from season 2 with gambling problems. She mentions that he's in a mental health facility now. Damn, I really thought Nevada of all places would help him fix his gambling issues...

The first season also had Meadow being grounded and not allowed to go on her trip when she snuck out, AJ was grounded when he drank alcohol at school, I even remembered this one exactly because they mentioned no nintendo again. AJ had a panic attack despite receiving positive reinforcement in a non mob violence related context. And this is new territory for Tony with Gloria. Melfi even notes he seems happy (and not simply doing better) which is something she never said to him before, even when he already had mistresses. We never saw how Tony starts one of his extra-marital relationships before.
