had no idea there was a swimming anime, let alone one worth watching. Thanks for spreading the word!

As for the "Tanaka looks good with a banana" scene, I'm not a native English speaker, so I don't know the nuances of the translation, but the only thing I can tell you is that it is just a small comedy scene.
In this scene, Kiyoko means that Tanaka looks like a monkey eating a banana(and I totally agree with her 😂). In Japan, we see a lot of cute illustrations of monkeys eating bananas from an early age. “Monkey and banana" is such a typical combination in Japan. When Kiyoko saw Tanaka eating a banana, such cute illustrations she once saw came to her mind. At this point, Kiyoko likens Tanaka to a monkey (because he has a shaved head), but she doesn't mean this in a negative way, she says something like 'he has charm in his appearance'. If Suga and the other second-year boys saw him, they might say the same thing as Kiyoko. As an affectionate joke, of course.
It was surprising that the usually cool Kiyoko would say it, but it was good to know that Kiyoko has a funny side too. It makes her even more attractive than in the first season.☺️

"The sexual assault of a teenager by an adult woman was animated in a very critical and oppressive way" Completely agree with you. I haven't read the manga but the way it was filmed was like a scene from a thriller movie, which I appreciated a lot. Because animes tend to be creepy and make fun of that kind of stuff. When I praise Chainsaw Man I always mention that scene to friends (among many other things). CM in a lot of ways felt like a post-modern anime, which was contributed partly by its filmmaking. It was so cinematic. Apparently Japanese fans expected a much goofier and light-hearted adaptation, which baffles me because we already got those elements

Like I mentioned: "Mappa is unfortunately known for taking more than they can handle and taking too many projects and big franchises."
The backlash with Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 has ensured that Mappa no longer keeps their workers trapped in the office like slaves, but instead of taking on fewer projects, they're pushing back the anime they have control over (Chainsaw Man, Vinland Saga). Just frustrating.
And the fact that the director of Chainsaw Man was so heavily criticized by Japanese fans still pisses me off. I really liked what he did with the story. The sexual assault of a teenager by an adult woman was animated in a very critical and oppressive way, whereas in the manga it was a scene with giggles.

Ahh the wait for Chainsaw Man is also killing me. It's been two years already and they haven't even announced the release date for the movie yet, and I bet we gotta wait for a good while for season 2 after that. God damn it Mappa (also it sucks that the director of the first season left the project because of the backlash it got).
Also it's been so long since the first season of Dorohedoro that I thought it might've been silently axed but now I checked and apparently they announced that there's gonna be a season 2, phew.. I think it took so long because the director was busy with AoT's entire final season, so I understand. Although Mappa could've picked some other director but whatever...
The only problem is that Mappa currently has 10 announced yet unreleased productions: Inazuma Eleven the Movie, Jujutsu Kaisen 3rd Season, Chainsaw Man Movie, The Rose of Versailles Movie, Lazarus, Zenshuu, Campfire Cooking in Another World with my Absurd Skill Season 2, Hell's Paradise Season 2, Oblivion Battery Season 2 and Dorohedoro. So I don't see Vinland Saga Season 3 until 2026 at the earliest.

Vinland Saga was watched over 100 million hours on Netflix alone in the first half of 2023. Crunchyroll probably has reached even higher figures. It was a success, but certainly not Jujutsu Kaisen or Chainsaw Man level. The only way I see to push Vinland Saga would be if Bluray sales pick up again. But 120€ (Germany) for the whole season is pretty steep.

Was season 2 of Vinland Saga a huge success though? I've heard many fans leaving the show during season 2 because they found it boring. To me it was excellent, and re-watching it with the girls was such a delight it elevated the experience even more. But Mappa might have struggled with the ratings during s2.

Fellow Patron -- Thanks for your reply. I am looking for people who are familiar with and like anime. I though this the perfect place for me to post my comments because I am considering giving this series a try. Yet, I should have phrase my comments differently. I've never been able to connect with a cartoon character but want to -- feel like I am missing out. I may try on another channel (Centane) who does anime. I think I may try Frieren or Arcane.
You can ignore my comments. I do like non-anime content, but that's all I really know. I have enjoyed excellent reactions by these women to non-anime content, and thus have requested that they react to more non-anime content.
The last time I watched cartoons, I was about age 30 in the early 1990s -- watched a few episodes of Beavis and Butt-Head, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and King of the Hill -- I liked them but didn't connect with the characters. Then, in the late 1990s/early 2000s, I would glance over my kids' shoulders at cartoons they watched, but didn't pay much attention. If I ever wanted my kids occupied, I would put on the Disney 1998 English dub (no longer readily available) of "Kiki's Delivery Service" (1989) -- they would fixate on that animated movie.

great!!! this still isn’t your diary. if your comment isn’t meaningful to the content it’s related to, it’s just common sense not to leave it. most people just ignore videos of content that is clearly meant for a different audience instead of leaving shallow criticisms on something you are evidently unfamiliar with. the comment section of an anime video isn’t the place to be discussing how you dislike the medium as a whole or for having personal contemplations about whether or not it’s possible to emotionally connect with a cartoon. go to a subreddit dedicated to people who dislike or are skeptical about animation if this is the conversation you wanna have. commenting these things here is so out of pocket and comes across as rage-bait.

Apothecary Diaries is unfortunately too long. The second season will be released in January, which means the anime will have 48 episodes. If we were to watch Apothecary Disries, it would practically run for a year. And season 3 will most likely come out in January 2026, which means we'd be watching the show until July 2026. Therefore, Apothecary Diaries is a long anime and therefore has to prove itself in the long anime slot against Fruits Basket, Kaguya-sama and others.

I am thinking of giving anime a try. Just wondering how I would connect with a cartoon character that looks like that. I am not trying to persuade “these women” of anything in my post. If you are implying I am attempting to persuade “these women” to dislike anime, that would be ridiculous - a lost cause.

why even bother leaving these comments? are you this dedicated to persuading these women into disliking something that they have been a fan of for years and instead dedicate their channel to “normal” tv shows? is this a parasocial thing? or do you think the comments section is your personal journal for your random thoughts?

Tanaka looks good with a banana caught them so off guard, lol. Loved this episode, just like Winners and Losers, this episode allows us to see the other teams perspective, and although it's sad that they lost I loved how just playing against Karasuno gave them the motivation to keep pushing forward. I also always love seeing 3rd years that moved on, still watching and supporting their old teams, I even love seeing that in real sports too with retired athletes.

Tanaka looks good with a banana and the banana suits Tanaka are both valid translations. Whichever you choose you still have plenty to read into it yourself: the banana suits him could be taken as a compliment or a joke and so could the other phrase.
I asked 3 Japanese friends so I could get an idea of how it should be understood. None of them has watched Haikyuu, they just watched that little scene and gave an opinion. One said she likes him; one said she is making fun of him, but in a friendly or even affectionate way; the third said she is probably really into BL fiction! So there was no help there lol (I apologise for the third friend who is actually my sister-in-law. That was the last thing I expected her to say)
It's probably fair to say it is intended to be ambiguous and you can take it however you choose. It's something to watch out for in the future anyway and maybe the meaning will become clear in hindsight... or maybe not. I've not been much help, eh? lol

Your intros are sometimes the best thing in the entire video, the show you're reacting to included. I really love your relationship. I think you're beautiful together and it makes me feel as happy to see you both talking about something as simple as why you're drinking from the mugs you're drinking from, as watching Haikyuu makes you feel. I'm so glad to have your channel to watch whenever I need a lift. You're genuinely two of my favourite people.

MAPPA is currently juggling a variety of projects, which is probably the reason why Vinland Saga Season 3 has not yet been announced. Although the series is a huge success and Takahiko Abiru (the character designer) and the former WIT Studio team want to work on Vinland Saga, they seem to help out on other projects at Mappa.
Mappa is unfortunately known for taking more than they can handle and taking too many projects and big franchises. They often prioritize projects that promise high viewership and/or high profits, and while Vinland Saga is definitely one of them, timing and schedule seem to be the biggest obstacles. Other shows in their pipeline have a set end date by which something has to be finished, and if they had turned down a big project, like Ranma 1/2 for example, another animation studio would have done it, but Mappa wants it all.
I once made the joke that if Madhouse couldn't fit Frieren Season 2 into their schedule, Mappa would be at the door to grab that franchise as well.
You also just have to remember that Mappa was only founded in 2011 and still animates what feels like every second big anime. Here is a list: https://anilist.co/studio/569/MAPPA
Vinland Saga Director Shuuhei Yabuta also seems to be jumping from project to project at Mappa: https://anilist.co/staff/120824/Shuuhei-Yabuta
