They both belong to the genre of "girls playing music." In the world of animes, in terms of popularity and thematic similarity, the female version of the genre "boys playing sports" is definitely "girls playing music." Both Girls Band Cry and Bang Dream It's MyGO have some of the best writing and character developments I have seen in any media, whether in animes or live-action films and TV series.
