What To Do If You're Always Overthinking About Your Future

Sometimes you’re so focused on that big breakthrough blessing, that you're overlooking the small blessings you’re receiving everyday.

Being a little bit worried is OK. This enables us to be action takers and not be complacent with what we are doing because it can help us plan effectively for the future by helping us think about possible problems and their solutions.

However, compulsively worrying about your future is genuinely exhausting. This makes us feel sick, confused and even freeze up.

Worrying about how all of the reasons and ways something won't workout leads us into a wormhole of creating more imaginary ways of things that could possibly happen to us.

Things that don't even exist to begin with.

This is called catastrophising and it's when we get caught up in mental loop of always expecting the worst case scenario and it just leads to a bunch of anxiety.

e.g. Imagining yourself failing on a test --> Not getting accepted into a good school --> not being able to make good money ---> Never having success in life --> being a bum in life

Catastophising is when you are always imagining the WORST.

It's when you take difficult situations and interpret it as unrecoverable

Catastrophising usually starts from experiencing genuine life setbacks. It can also be a result of previously having a more positive attitude to life but getting burned repeatedly.

Think to yourself. How do you usually respond to challenges.

1. Constantly imagining the worst case scenario often invites the worst case scenario.

Not only will you sabotage opportunities, but you will invite the exact problems you was hoping to avoid.

e.g. If you go into a conversation expecting the person to be more defensive, then you may display very attacking type of energy, therefore resulting to the person being defensive.

if you expect your crush will reject you if you approach them, and then you don't build the courage to talk to them, then don't be surprised if you are alone on the weekends.

2. Catastrophising invites depression

When you are always imagining a dark and hopeless future then you will have less motivation.

Whilst motivation is not an emotion to always rely on, it serves as a great spark to get things going for ourselves.

3. Catastrophising invites anxiety

It forces our mind to see threats and failure in every situation and this can lead to deep levels of anxiety and even panic attacks.

Always expecting the worst makes us hopeless and depressed about the future and makes us unmotivated.

"What's the point of trying if I'm just gonna fail"

This though process makes us closed to options and opportunities that might actually end up working for us which then leads to freezing and paralysis of taking NO ACTION.

How To Combat Catastophising?

1. Get some good sleep

2. Accept uncertainty as a natural part of life

3. Build up your emotional muscles to be able to go through uncomfortable moments of uncertainty

4. Spend more time thinking about the things you life instead worrying about the things you fear.

5. Choose what you want out of life, break it down, and bravely work towards those things.

6. Avoid sitting around doing absolutely nothing as an idle mind becomes a devils playground.

7. Challenge any negative thoughts that arise but don't beat yourself up for having negative thoughts. Notice those thoughts and allow them to pass.

When you are running, make sure you run TOWARDS something and not away from something.

This means, instead of running away from feared outcomes and trying to protect yourself from excessively worrying about it, start running towards the outcomes in life that you want. Both in your actions and in your thoughts.

Start visualising yourself facing and successfully solving your problems.

Your imagination is really important. It is the root of worrying but it is also the source of hope.

Don't visualise the magic outcome, instead you want to visualise yourself taking the required and necessary actions towards your ideal outcomes and always focus on the things you can control instead of the things you can't.

Whether or not we spend hours worrying, things just seem to work out in our favour 85% - 90% of the time.

I worry sometimes but embracing and truly believing in this truth has allowed me to stop worrying so much and instead use that mental energy to shape and design my dream life.

Life is about dealing with problems as they arise, rather than destroy your spirit by worrying about them too far in advance.

People spend a lot of time worrying about money, career, relationships, business, family etc... but I've come to realise that sometimes the things that didn't work out, actually worked out.

How many times have you felt disappointed when something you wanted so badly didn't work out? But how many times has those 'disappointments' come to be a blessing in disguise?

All you can do is to put your best foot forward, with your best efforts and let God / Universe handle the rest.

You must understand if you're on a challenging unique path, you will have to embrace this uncomfortable level of certainty you are currently experiencing.

Till next time.
