Omg you watched it after I recommended it I’m so happy. 😁
And don’t worry if the show follows the books decently well you’ll get some more perspectives tho not from all main houses. And sorry but this civil war is about the Targaryens so they will have most of the spotlight even when other characters are involved.
The war hasn’t even reached the climax yet it’s only just beginning. I hope we get some major battles the books include.

I was worried that the show would be a disappointment like Game of Thrones season 8 and I didn't want to watch characters I had grown to adore lose any depth of character and become just a shell of themselves. Last week, Melkor convinced me to give House of the Dragon (The Dragon Show) a chance and what can I say: Great show. Visery's journey to the Iron Throne and his speech to his family in episode 8 of season 1 really touched me. I'm excited to see where the journey goes.
And what a great episode this one was. But what I'm still missing in the show are the insights from other families. We are currently switching back and forth between three factions (Daemon, Rhaenyra, Alicent / Hightower) and I would just love to see more of the House Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Martell and others and their political positions, intrigues and discussions on the conflict. It's a shame that the other houses only play a role when one of our three factions encounters them and interacts with each other.
At the same time, the absence of these makes for an extremely fast-paced plot. Compared to the first 14 episodes of Game of Thrones, so much has already happened in House of the Dragon.

Perfect analysis of Aegon.
He could have turned out better but with the society and parent he had he was doomed from the start. Worst part is he is treated like shit even when he tried to do good now.

Can I also just say that Larys’ manipulation has been based on truth so far? He’s not entirely wrong. Aemond and Cole are making plans in secret. Alicent is trying to rule through Aegon. Maybe if Cole had told Aegon about his plans then Aegon wouldn’t have flown in and disrupted everything. I just feel like his own people are setting him up to fail. All he has done is listen to their council, whenever he tried to fly on Sunfyre he got cautioned against it, and he listened! They act like he’s so unreasonable and has to be kept out of the loop, but he’s so eager to please that he WOULD listen to their advice.
Aegon saying he needs to be kept informed on things so he can make informed decisions was the most sensible thing he’s ever said, and it’s frustrating to see them destroy any potential he has at being a good ruler by dismissing him so much.

I don’t think he spoiled anything? Daemon mentioned that there’s 40,000 unclaimed men in he Riverlands that he’s trying to raise. OP didn’t say whether or not he’d do it.

I loved your thoughts on Alicent and Aegon’s relationship. The pain of seeing yourself reflected in your son. It’s not his fault, he didn’t ask to be born for the sole reason of being used for a power grab. Just like she didn’t ask for her sole purpose in life to be used to create HIM.
He will never understand why she treats him like this, and it’s heartbreaking to witness. If a person is born to a father who doesn’t care, and a mother who sees him as a chain that binds her to this life, and to a society that encourages his worst impulses and even enables them simply because of his gender and status, then did he stand a chance at being good? Nothing can absolve him, but it’s a fascinating character study.
Alicent and Aegon are my favorite dynamic of the show. I am really curious to see her reaction to what happened to him, considering that her words are what pushed him to act and get himself in that situation.

Hope they see this because that’s true and honestly there definitely is enough content for 4 season in the book this is based on.
Hell there is enough to have 10 episodes per season but for some dumb reasons they’ve stopped that.

Completely agree with your analysis on Aegon as a character and his motives.
His portrayal this season has also made me love his character a ton. He’s no longer this brining 1 sided character which is great and you can see how great his actor is.

Will write a messsge about Daemon and his importance to both the story and Rharnyra in the war effort later today sometime.
He is very under appreciated and as a military history nerd I feel bad for him he’s suppose to raise 40 thousand men in the river lands which they have but can’t even get 10 thousand raised lol.
Small complaint from me but I think it lessens the realism but might be fixed later. But so far the armies haven’t been very big and imo it’s quite unrealistic and hope they show the more accurate army sized since this war kills a ton of people and that isn’t gonna happen if armies are the size of Criston’s host like 1600 men.
In the book the north can mobilise 20-25k men, The riverlands 40k, Westerlands (Lannister land) 60k, The Reach 70-100k and so on. What I mean is that there is supposed to be this feeling of grandness and huge sizes to reflect this total civil war where each side mobilise everything they have for their side and that adds to the impact this war had. I hope they decide to follow the book on this in the future more since the North didn’t just send 2000 men like Cregan stark decided to send to Rhaenyra. Small nitpick tho and overall this show is AMAZING.

You mentioned this being called dragons something.
This civil war is called A Dance of Dragons and is what led to the decline of the Targaryen dynasty, still it survived for another 130 years after the civil war. After the civil war dragons slowly after this started getting smaller and smaller and eventually they stopped hatching.
This civil war doomed the Targaryen dynasty.

Book reader here and I agree on your Sunfyre comment since in the book its made at least hinted strongly to how close Aegon and Sunfyre's relation was and the show stole that away. This is why imo It's a grave mistake to do below 10 episodes per season like s2 that will have 8 episodes. You can add so much more depth and interesting content from the books maybe even include another battle with 10 episodes that will otherwise be felt when it's excluded. Also love Daemon tho not as a good guy but as a character he's definitely above Rhaenyra. There's a reason George R.R. Martin has officially stated on video why Daemon Targaryen is his favorite Targaryen character of all time. Daemon being such a grey character both good and villainous adds to his depth.

I’ve not watched the vid yet will later so sorry if I’m posting something unnecessary. Id like to suggest saving this map and have it so you can pull it up.
https://images.app.goo.gl/kf9n6wxXxpPSvXcN8
It will help you get a grip of the geography and where people are and will go in the show.
I hope this helps.
Will post later my thoughts on the episode and answer any question you have in the episode. If you want my book reader non spoiler perspective I’ll share it if I deem it necessary.
But short to say this episode imo was a 9-9,5/10.
Also if you are curious which i fell like you aren’t but anyway can’t hurt here is the map of the path Cole and his army took where they took castles on the way to Rooks Rest and where Rhaenys came to from dragonstone from the ocean and tries to retreat back to Dragonstone at the end over the ocean but is ambushed and killed. https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=https%3A%2F%2Fawoiaf.westeros.org%2Fimages%2Fthumb%2Ff%2Ff8%2FRook%2527s_Rest_map.png%2F500px-Rook%2527s_Rest_map.png&tbnid=BRPy6pVUmkD57M&vet=1&imgrefurl=https%3A%2F%2Fawoiaf.westeros.org%2Findex.php%2FBattle_at_Rook%2527s_Rest&docid=nllXc0vY8UNysM&w=500&h=324&hl=sv&source=sh%2Fx%2Fim%2Fm1%2F5&kgs=d02bb3f47541d3b7&shem=abme%2Ctrie

"he can't really roll aegon's head, because aegon is king; and his brother"... famous last words.
ngl, i am a bit (a lot) disappointed by the amount of time we had with sunfire. i haven't read the books but i read about it and they said sunfire and aegon's relationship was one of the closest between dragon and dragonrider and we barely got to see anything. and sunfire really was the prettiest dragon.
anyway, standing ovation for cunty alicent, i love to see it.

theres something very sad about ancient magnificent creatures forced to kill each because monarchists are squabbling over which branch of their imperialist family get to rule. theres a contemporary metaphor in there somewhere
