I felt like ButtRock was much better defined, in terms of its musical qualities and social aspects. BowlingRock seemed to be a matter of haircuts, clothes, and tattoos

The Offspring song actually has a really long and interesting backstory. The original “Tehran” version was on their self titled album in ‘89, then the re-recorded Baghdad version for the Baghdad EP in ‘91, making the song about the first gulf war. Their first self titled album is actually really good, and so is Ignition, their first release on Epitaph before Smash. As for Hot Water Music, I also can’t count the number of times I’ve seen them unintentionally, seems like for awhile they were perennially an opener at every show in SoCal, even when they weren’t listed as an opener.
