Shogun Episode 10 Full Reaction

Comments

I dont know if there will be one for live action shows because 3 of them return this month. But for the short anime poll there will be one this week

Looking forward to the post reaction. Many people miss the fact that Ishido's concerns about Toranaga were actually correct the whole time. He did want to be Shogun, he was amassing power and he basically used everyone to get what he wanted in the end. You should definitely look up the history of the events that take place in real history with Tokugawa who Toranaga is based on. You'll learn the grim fate of everyone involved in this pivotal moment in Japan's history.

Just so you know the dream sequence at the start is not a future flash forward it is just him dreaming which is why he lets go of Markiko's necklace with Fuji at the end. I believe Toranaga is right in that John is fated never to return to England. An explanation of Blackthorne's flash fowards in his deathbed (and how they tie to Mariko's poetry): It was a literal interpretation of Mariko's unfinished poem: "While the snow remains, veiled in the haze of a cold evening, a leafless branch". After losing Mariko, all Blackthorne could see in his future was pain and grief. A future where he's still holding onto Mariko's rosary on his deathbed, being completely defined by what he lost. A leafless branch. But by the middle of the episode, the Heir’s mother completes the poem: “Flowers are only flowers because they fall. But thankfully, the wind.” And after that moment, we don't see the deathbed flash forwards anymore! Blackthorne lives the second half of the poem and allows himself to lets go of Mariko, leaving the rosary behind and returning to the wind in search of a new destiny (the show equates destiny & winds a lot). But thankfully... the wind! But thankfully, destiny! As usual loved your reviews of this show and hope you're both well.

looking forward to the discussion, i thoroughly enjoyed the show and the decision to have a tender and quiet finale instead of a big climactic final battle like many other series would’ve. also very touching for fuji to tell john “let your hands be the last ones to hold her” just as mariko told her in ep 1 with her baby. to have 2 people who can barely communicate but still help each other bear the burden of grief was a lovely sentiment about empathy transcending culture/language barriers

Glad to have watched this show with you both

Why did the assassins spare Toronaga's baby? They could have at least captured the baby, it would be a great hostage. Maybe that would be too outright hostile but it doesn't seem worse than capturing Mariko. If it wasn't for Ishido admiting it to Yabushige I would think that Toronaga ordered the assassins.

Eagerly awaiting your edited reaction tomorrow. For now I'll just say thanks for watching this, it was a show I was definitely interested in but you guys starting it motivated me to watch along with you instead of procrastinating it. It was a great show and I'll carry several scenes and quotes with me for the foreseeable future.
