and just like that only one season to go
Yea I instantly fell in love with Silver when he was able to outsmart Flint in S2 and there was no going back for me. Not only am I emotionally invested but his story is the greatest story and development for me in the entire series, I mean from where he started to where he ends up is just chefs kiss.

Visually she also always reminds me of Vane a bit in this episode? And I think that's deliberate. Their hairstyles in this one are quite similar, as is her outfit/coloring that she is wearing, all of it feels very Vane to me, and that's an interesting touch.

What I see in Rogers' eyes is a man capable of anything to achieve his goals. With his feelings for Eleanor growing, he brought her closer but kept focused on the mission and was rational about it all, even after taking a beating from Vane and losing the money, he still acted rationally. I don't think he was concerned about Eleanor siding with Vane at all, and he was very clear on what he was asking of her:
"The challenges I see ahead for both you and I are of the gravest sort. I need to know that I can rely upon you to help me navigate through it... You understand... My concern about calling you a partner, from the moment I first walked into your cell in London, was whether you'd be able to resist Nassau's temptation, the gravity of your personal history urging you to resume petty rivalries and repeat the costliest of your mistakes, preventing you from ever truly moving into the future I wanted to build here, rather than gravitating back into your past. And now... In the moment I need you the most, need the best of you the most, I fear the temptation you are feeling is about to be at its strongest... That man sitting in a cell in my fort is the embodiment of that temptation for you. It is self-evident. Now, I am asking whether you're able to see past the petty and the personal to remain focused on what is right now of vital importance to both of our futures... To our very survival. If you have any regard for me, any respect at all, then I'm asking you to tell me the truth about what you're capable of right now."
It was all about trust, and she proved that she can't be trusted. Yes, he wants to be with her and being all angry about it wouldn't do any good, but he didn't give any sign of disapproval, on the contrary, basically applauded her, and that kinda gives her the green light to act on her own and behind his back, juvpu fur qbrf, ntnva.

It's interesting, I'm not sure if Silver would even crack my personal top five. He's an absolutely amazing character and his story is incredible, but like the girls my emotional investment changes where I would rank characters a lot. And while I am emotionally invested in Silver, there are a lot of characters I feel a lot more strongly about. But there are so many characters in this show, so any choice you give is a good and understandable one haha.

Lola is me talking about how beautiful Anne looks in this episode. Seriously, she looks amazing here, from her hairstyle to her outfit. Even though her hat is part of her iconic look, I'm always struck by how she looks in this episode.

They don't hate him or anything, but they disagree with his mentality about strength and what makes someone strong/a man. So the sort of philosophical feelings he has about what makes a pirate and etc.

The curse and blessing of watching Black Sails is so true. As far as live action shows go, I certainly haven’t watched anything else that is as good.

I don’t think in the previous episode he was actually asking her to not take vengeance. Yes, he had talked about not wanting to lose the street before, but when it actually came to his conversation with Eleanor I think he was asking something else. He said that he had been worried about being in Nassau driving Eleanor back to her old ways, and that the temptation to do so was sitting in a cell (Vane). He is actually asking her about whether she is conflicted about Vane’s capture, if she is tempted to side with Vane. That’s why Eleanor responds how she does. She assures him by telling Rogers she loves him, and that the only thought she’s had toward Vane has been a desire for vengeance. And that as a result she doesn’t know how she will react when facing Vane. So while it’s true that the plan was to initially hold off until they could get vane to sign a confession/send him to England, Rogers wasn’t really concerned about Eleanor’s vengeful feelings toward Vane. And I think her killing him, in Roger’s mind, is the ultimate proof that she will not side with her former partners in Nassau.

The only thing I can think of to recommend that might even come slightly close to Black Sails in terms of writing, is Daredevil. But from this moment on, now that you've witnessed peak writing, you'll forever be spoiled by Black Sails and nothing will quite ever be the same, its the curse and the blessing of experiencing Black Sails.

I have always felt that his inner turmoil about the whole situation was written all over his face, its just that he felt it was pointless to relitigate. Vane is already dead in Rogers' name and he has already admitted to himself that he wants to be with Eleanor. It's just better to move forward completely alligned.

Now that we have finished S3, here's my list of my top 5 favorite characters. 1) LONG JOHN SILVER (his progression is literally the best in the ENTIRE show). 2) Vane/Flint (they tie with each other and I know that it's a cheat but I simply cannot put one above the other). 3) Madi (from the moment she came into the show, she has been nothing but phenomenal, and she literally takes command of any scene she is in). 4) Jack (it pains me that he is this low because I genuinely love him so much). 5) Max (Like you ladies I feel her story is one of the best ones in the show).

It's really dumb to have a long conversation while burying gold. Someone's gonna see you and know where the gold is. Finish filling the whole and have a conversation over a table with some beer. Great scene though.

Hornigold's real life is even more impressive than how it's portrayed in the show: He was actually the pirate captain who gave Blackbeard his first command, after Teach joined his crew. He refused to attack British ships because he claimed to be a Privateer, not a Pirate. When his crew got angry over bypassing British shipping they voted him out.
Hornigold did accept a pardon, and then served Woodes Rogers as a Pirate Hunter. He died in 1719 when his ship was shipwrecked in a storm, not in combat.
The thing he may be most famous for now (in the general public) is for an incident where his crew captured a ship, but didn't take anything except for their hats. Apparently Hornigold's men had gotten drunk the night before and thrown all their hats overboard. You often see this story repeated as a joke, and as a way to say "The pirates weren't greedy or bloodthirsty fellows, they were just normal men trying to get along in life".

This relationship between Eleanor and Rogers, I just can't take it seriously. The guy was very worried and gave a whole speech to Eleanor, making sure she wouldn't do anything stupid that might lead them to lose the street. Then again while in bed and about to collapse. But now, after his beauty sleep, all of a sudden he changed his mind completely, and even kinda complimented Eleanor on her "act of courage".

I really love how you pointed out that the British regulars (red coats) are like the Spanish soldiers in the sense that, as individuals, they’re also victims of oppression, despite being the military face of it. If you wanted to know who’s more reflective of the evils of “civilized” society, it would be the officers - the people giving the orders.
Historically, poorer people were just the regulars, normal soldiers. It was guaranteed pay and guaranteed food, as well as a potential stipend for your family if you died. Born poor with little options, it makes sense why so many poor and disenfranchised citizens joined the military. The reason why officers are more “evil,” is because officers exclusively came from rich or powerful families, like Woodes Rodgers.
In fact, up until after WW2, it was impossible to be born poor and rise up the ranks to be an officer. The English wanted a clear distinction of class.
It’s also the reason why we often saw James McGraw be bullied by a lot of officers, because he did not come from a rich family, only gaining an officer position because his father worked for that Admiral who happened to see him as a son (before he betrayed him to Alfred).

I love how the show cuts back and forth from the conversation between Silver and Flint to what is happening the next day. I feel like a lot of other shows would have just had that scene near the beginning, or else flash back to it during the middle of the battle. Having it throughout the whole episode really elevates the importance of the conversation, and how each part of it applies to more than just the characters involved in it.

"To be underestimated is an incredible gift." One of my favorite Jack lines. It fits him very well of course, but it also reminds me a lot of something Max said back in s2, about how for people like herself "power works best when it is least perceived." It's in different contexts, but both of them are characters who often rely on the way people underestimate them in order to manipulate situations/people to their advantage. There are a number of ways in which Jack and Max are similar, especially when it comes to their intelligence. (Also, I think that tells us that Anne has a little bit of a type haha: very smart people who use the way they are perceived to their advantage. As someone who is also probably underestimated a lot, it makes sense that Anne would be attracted to that kind of quality in someone).

I can't believe we're gonna start season 4, I shall begin the mourning process...
My favorite thing was John and Flint's whole conversation and Flint actually trusting him to the point of telling him about Thomas. The type of man John will become (Long John name drop!), and how John may end up being Flint's demise. Although that got me thinking, he may not be his literal cause of death, but a maybe more symbolic one? John could end up playing a major part in the death of the "Flint" name/legacy and leaving James to find his peace. Or at least that's what I'm hoping for, I'm trying to remain optimistic here lol.
Edit: Ok, I listened to your thoughts on that conversation and we seem to be on the same page 🙂
