When has Mapleton ever made stuff up? I think she was being very straightforward with Max because that’s the kind of relationship she wants to have with her going forward. And I think she thinks that she’s giving good advice. Same as she did with Eleanor. She probably sees them both the same way; stressful job, just got out of pretty serious relationship, ex probably hates you, here’s a way to blow off steam, just pay them so you don’t get attached. I can totally see Eleanor and her talking when Eleanor went in there. It’s not like she was going to talk to either the previous owner, or any of the pirates, who pretty much all dislike her. And if they did sit and chat occasionally, it makes perfect sense that Eleanor would think to use her to get someone to spy on Max.

Just based on the few interactions they had in the first season, that’s not really what it feels like. On top of that, I don’t think Mapleton would say something to Max that would potentially hurt her feelings - implying she never mattered to Eleanor - when she is in this moment trying to endear herself to Max. That’s just not smart, and she’s been shown to be pretty smart. Hell, I’d even believe that Mapleton is making up this moment entirely: that wouldn’t exactly be out of character either.

2024-03-18 09:17:11 +0000 UTCI think she was. Eleanor was obviously using the brothel prior to her relationship with Max, otherwise how would she have met Max? I can totally see Eleanor going in there to unwind and have a drink. She would be able to relax in there more than her own bar.

2024-03-17 19:27:55 +0000 UTCOh, and I don't think Mapleton was actually talking about Max and Eleanor when she said "all you owe them is a fee". Mapleton didn't start informing directly to Eleanor/working for her until s2, which was well after Eleanor and Max broke up. Before then, there isn't any indication that Mapleton would have had interaction with Eleanor that would allow her to give advice.

That being said, I think everything that happens with her character makes sense, and is a pretty natural growth for her story.
