One Piece (Live Action) 1x02 Reaction

Comments

I think it might be because you're still too close to the anime. Most fans saw the first arc years if not decades ago, so enough time has passed that they could watch the live action with less scrutinizing eyes. Added to that the knowledge about what had happened and is currently on going in the story, it's quite exciting seeing the subtle adjustments, easter eggs and building blocks they put in the live action for future arcs.

Shinka

Yeah that makes sense, but ultimately I feel like since I have watched the parts that the first season adapted, I can make the comparison. The pacing of later One Piece arcs is not really a factor here.

You are just new to one piece anime. Once you get humbled by the absurd pacing in dressrossa arc like all of us(around 500 or 600 episode mark), you will feel like live action was much better. 🀣 Also because of this hazing/humbling experience, a lot of op fans are usually "less critical" about live action. Also since one piece in general is "fantastical", it can get away with such criticisms and have a successful live action adaptation.

rohit

Me too brother.

At some point you will give and watch the anime haha. You will NOT react ofcourse (understandably), but I'm sure you'll want to watch the show in its original form at some point. This series if anything has convinced people to watch the anime, its no surprise they are thinking of reanimating from the start.

I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't really like this portrayal of Buggy. But also idk I've just struggled to get into this adaptation, it doesn't have the tone or heart of the original for me, everything feels like it's adapted too efficiently, which makes it feel less organic. I've only seen the first saga of the anime (so everything the live action has adapted) so I'm not a longtime fan or anything, I just felt like just about every change made was for the worse. Great casting, sets, and fights, and there are moments where it all comes together well (especially in episode 1). But it just feels like the characters and plot have been stripped down to the point where it's like a wikipedia summary at best, none of emotion comes through for me. Like the Shanks stuff made me cry in the anime but I can't even take it seriously here tbh. I'm glad y'all are enjoying it though, maybe not having something to compare it to is better (although a lot of the anime fans liked it a lot too it seems).

i cant wait for next episode my favv boy is cominggg

StrawHat

I hope they will give the upcoming remake a chance tho!

Kizaru

avatar the last airbender live action coming out on february 22 and the trailer looks good :D

Basti

Please, don't ever leave the couch xD. It gives me a very cozy feeling as If I'm with some friends. A "professional" setup as most reactors have takes away the magic. Loving your OP reactions! :)

In my opinion, the anime also deserves the Hate. It's a really bad adaptation, at least the more episodes there are and the more the material is dragged out to infinity. I prefer the Naruto method, where they just released a bunch of crap for a year and then adapted the source material at an ok-ish pace. Also, the anime has a lot of elements that I really dislike, mainly revolving around the portrayal of women and some male characters' interactions with them. Most of us are past the age of finding it funny when guy X falls into woman Y's breasts or he dies of blood loss from an erection because she says "hello" like a normal person.

You're right, of course :D I'm just trying to visualize it better somehow. I remember that for a long time many thought that the Redline was only on one side of the globe, but the landmass is also a ring encircling the globe.

The funniest and maybe most interesting thing about LM and One piece anime is that, it is LITERALLY the type of anime that they will REALLY enjoy. The theories, roller coaster emotions, tears, characters and their development, humor, etc. But it will never happen sadly. And I think I'm okay with that now. I'm just glad they are seeing the live action and enjoying a bit of this master piece. Thank you! πŸ’–

Lola: "He's dead" Also Lola: "I don't want to assume things"

The real Earth is tilted as well.

I was a One Piece hater before the live action. They really did an amazing job, the actors, directors, writers, everyone.

I'm thrilled because you guys are loving this series way more than I thought you would; I enjoyed it a lot as a One Piece fan but I wasn't sure how much of it was my fan goggles. One Piece dominates its field in heart and imagination, and I'm glad that came through. The remake and S2 of this live action will come out in the next couple of years. Hope we make it till then! :')

The One Piece live action is a perfect example of what happens when you give the story’s creator an integral part in the development process. This show works because Oda had a say in everything they did. But its not a copy and paste job, the live action is its own being, but it has the heart and soul of the source material. I wish all adaptations did this. Its so simple but it makes or breaks adaptations imo.

Buggy is a dumbass and thats why he’s a fan favorite. I think a lot of manga/anime fans are happy with the live action bc they do a good job with the characters but there’s definitely a lot of humor that’s cut out of this version, especially for characters like Nami and Zoro. Still, they do a really good job and a lot of one piece fans were hopeful when the project started because the original author worked very closely with the showrunners and had general veto power over changes. Theres a lot of fun behind the scenes interviews and footage you could watch after you get done with the season.

Since you talked about it: Here's a rough idea of how many Live Action Seasons are possible so far: Saga 1: 95 Chapters - 44 Anime Episodes - 8 Live Action Episodes (Season 1) Saga 2: 122 Chapters - 73 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 2) Saga 3: 84 Chapters - 52 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 3 part 1) Saga 5: 47 Chapters - 45 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 3 Part 2) Saga 4: 139 Chapters - 105 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 4) Saga 6: 108 Chapters - 126 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 5) Saga 7: 56 Chapters - 56 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 6 Part 1) Saga 8: 148 Chapters - 164 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 6 Part 2, Season 7) Saga 9: 107 Chapters - 135 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 8) Saga 10: 149 Chapters - 191 Anime Episodes - Live Action (Season 9) Saga 11: 46+ Chapters - 5+ Anime Episodes And currently One Piece is supposed to be in its final Saga, although I can't really take the word "final" seriously in the anime world anymore. I would expect 5 to 10 years of material still to come, so in the end it will probably be 12 to 14 Seasons.

I knew you would really love this one and love Shanks . That scene when he gives Luffy his hat gets me every time . Buggy was also amazing in the live action . Actor did an amazing job .

Sone

nevermind, just started the intro and you talk about your potential favourites

sand_fl

Buggy was simply perfect in this live action, and I knew you were going to cry in this episode haha

Wallas

As someone who isnt a real big fan of the anime, Im glad you two are reacting to the live action

D

The best show from Marvel so far. Sadly, the girls already started watching Daredevil on their own time but say it was not for them, so I don't know if they will give it another try.

idk which one of you talked about it last week but you pointed out that normal clowns are scarier looking and i completely agree. as someone who has been afraid of clowns since i was a kid a regular clown is way scarier than this (mind you, i still find buggy really creepy and i would shit my pants if he was in front of me). for example, pennywise is way more scary for me in the original movie than in the remake. both tim curry and bill scarsgard did amazing, but the simplicity of the make up in the 1990 movie does it for me. i had nightmares for days after watching the movie. now to this, obviously haven't watched the reaction yet, but i remember enjoying the episode. my favourite part of the show is the dynamic between the characters and the relationship they have individually between each other. let's do your favourite thing... ranking the characters. which one do you think is going to be your favourite from the first impression?

sand_fl

I'm not a big fan of the way the world is drawn in anime and show, as it's difficult to depict a sphere in 2D. It's best to imagine our Earth, but along the prime meridian and the dateline in the Pacific Ocean would be a ring-shaped landmass dividing the eastern and western hemispheres, while the equator is the Grand Line. And now rotate the Earth a little so that the 4 seas now point north, east, south and west: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/d/db/Onepiece-welt.png/640px-Onepiece-welt.png

Robert H.

They will be perfect candidates for the anime remake in a couple years

Daniel Molina

Buggy is played by Jeff Ward, who I know from Agents of SHIELD. A very good and underrated marvel show. Speaking of Marvel, would you guys ever consider checking out Daredevil? That feels like another show that could be right up yall girls alley.

I have confidence this will make you anime watchersπŸ™πŸ»
