Honestly, I would have preferred that you discovered this work thanks to the anime. But hey, starting to learn one piece with the series is not such a bad thing even if I find the anime better. So I really hope that after HxH you will embark on the long but incredible adventure of one piece anime. Certainly it is very long but that should not be a reason for this privateness of this work which is for me my favorite of all works combined. And I'm a connoisseur!

I've watched One Piece's first seasons last year, read the manga too. You can think the live action is better than the anime (no one piece fan will agree with it) but there's no nostalgia

Theoretically, they can watch up to episode 44 privately once they have finished the first season. The first arcs were still pretty well adapted in anime. as you said this is a show for kids with graphic content (fake blood and people cut in half). I suggest you to watch the real One Piece in your free time because in my opinion it's just different vibes, much more emotions and everything, from the story to the characters, is much better in the anime

The anime is simply not good. It's stretched out far too long. When an episode only adapts half a manga page by simply repeating the scene several times and inserting reaction shots of "viewers" because Toei Animation wants to release a new episode every week, it's just not fun to watch. There's a reason why there's finally a remake, which will release about 24 episodes a year. The One Piece anime would theoretically "only" be 450 episodes long if the story were adapted properly. That's why the live action version can also tell the previously published story in 12 seasons of 7 to 10 episodes. And the fan service in the anime is just unbearable and they would hate it. Just look at their reaction to Misa in Death Note or Palm in Hunter x Hunter, both of which are harmless in comparison to what the One Piece anime did. The Live Action Version is just better for them.

We get at least 6 seasons (the first half of the story). They put so much money into the franchise and have also achieved great viewership and completion rates with the show. And I'm also so glad to have a One Piece version that's just fun to watch and doesn't drag the characters and the world down with fan service.

Yeah but it's not as dramatic as you said. Oda didn't agree with the idea at the beginning but ended up accepting it since it made sense with the ideas the showrunner had. This falls under what I said, changes that were approved by Oda. If he REALLY REALLY were against the idea, I doubt it would have gone ahead.

To Lola who said she was worried about Avatar Live Action because she doesn't like the idea of big corporations just coming in and taking the rights to shows and making adaptations without the people who were responsible for the original show, I would like to say that this is not the case with One Piece! The author of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, was active in the LA project and Netflix gave him so much freedom and respect that the show didn't come out until the author was 100% satisfied with the adaptation. Even the demand for a diverse main cast with people from all over the world was his demand. That's why the fans liked it so much, even though there were changes and adaptations, they were all approved by Oda himself and everyone knows how much he loves his creation.

So glad you ladies are being introduced to this Anime in the form of the Live Action since it's impossible to watch the Anime. It is one of the most popular Manga's/Anime's out there and it deserves to be because the story as well as the characters are just soooo good. I read some of the Manga and watched most of the Anime because it's one of my favorites. I'm glad you ladies enjoy the characters already because every single one of them are great. Zoro is my favorite but I love everyone. Since you were wondering about their ages, Luffy is 17, Nami is 18, and Zoro is 19. Luffy is still a child yes but I love how they didn't make him the typical 11/12 year old MC that anime loves to do. So glad you ladies are starting this journey, it's going to be a great ride and Netflix already renewed it for a 2nd Season so that is also something to look forward to.

Coby’s actor is trans (suck it jkr) The Manga is progressive af in a ton of ways with eventually solid trans representation, a genuinely amazing focus on anti-authoritarianism and a very nuanced (if slightly flawed) perspective on race/generational prejudice (Luffy hates when people are stripped of their personal freedoms🤌🏽) I like to compare it to Hunter x Hunter, fun characters have well written adventures in a mysterious and terrifying world (OP def has a stronger focus on humor and feels more like a bunch of fairy tales or Greek myths strung together into an epic)

I didn’t start watching one piece anime until after my brother, a huge One Piece fan, passed away 4 years ago. I started it mainly to keep a piece of him in my life. That said, One Piece is BY FAR the greatest show, not just anime, the greatest show ever made in my opinion. I understand how daunting 1000+ episodes looks, but once you get into it, you’ll go from “There’s too many episodes” to “There’s not enough.”

It's funny you are also watching Black Sails because both shows were filmed in Cape Town. And One Piece is recycling and taking advantage of the leftovers from the Black Sails production. They are reusing the three real ships built for Black Sails and some others props. There also some people on the staff who also worked on Black Sails. The director of the first two episodes, Marc Jobst, also directed an episode from S4 of Black Sails.

It is important to know that Eiicbiro Oda, the creator of the work, is 100% involved in the adaptation, and that is why the result was so promising. The One Piece anime/manga is quite caricatured and exaggerated, which is why many (myself included) considered a live action adaptation impossible, but they embraced the madness without shame, changing only what was necessary for the TV languages, and the result was a captivating series, with incredible characters and world construction, I hope you have a good journey with our crew 🤗

Another promising upcoming show this year is the Netflix adaptation of the sci-fi novels "The Three-Body Problem" from Cixin Liu. The showrunners are David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, creators of Game of Thrones. (Yes, we know they failed us in the last season, but that was partly because they deviated from the books beacuse they didn't have more source material). And also I hope you give an opportunity to Andor someday.
