Yes, you can. The live-action covers only 40 episodes out of the total 1089 episodes of the anime. I believe the series is intended for people who haven't seen anything of One piece aiming to convince them to watch or read it.

Yeah but I think the things that work in anime just don't translate to live action just because of the medium, even if the production is excellent. We see human faces, and we expect to relate to them even subconsciously. But when they behave like caricatures (even if it works in anime) it just becomes silly. At least those were my thoughts when I saw an episode of OP.

You should check out A More Civilized Age. The podcast is mainly about Clone Wars, but they did Andor last year and have the best reviews of each episode. And right now they're going through the first KOTOR. Just a group of really smart and funny people diving deep into Star Wars stuff.

Not really sure if CSM is up their alley; it has the same issue as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, where there’s not really time for you to get invested in a character and get to know them before they’re killed. I personally like CSM a lot, but for reactors who’s bread and butter is character writing, I’m not sure that’s the anime for them

Live action anime has always failed until One Piece. Definitely voting for One Piece. It’s only 8 episodes anyway so it won’t be that long a watch but it’s definitely worth their reaction. The number one Netflix show of all time and the first live action anime that was successful opening it up now for more live action anime in the future. The writer of the manga was behind this series. The actual anime is one of the longest running anime of all time so fans shouldn’t be angry if they don’t watch the anime first. They wouldn’t finish that one in our lifetime.

well I disagree with everything you said, most of fights are short and cool in Punk Hazard and Dressrosa and there are many interesting abilities, they are not simple haki fights and the show didn't lose its seriousness. I can agree with you on Wano's arc, that arc is so long and redundant and the animation is very bad, in that case the story structure is very similar to Arabasta arc (overall I don't like either one). Dressrosa has 3 of the best backstories in the show too, 1st 4 arcs after timeskip have different vibes...they have many cool moments, I can name you 4 scenes that gave me goosebumps in Fish-Man Island Arc

I follow a lot of reaction channels, and most of them have watched the Live Action One Piece series. The majority have enjoyed this adaptation, but reactors who went in completely blind (i.e. those who never watched the anime, never read the manga) were almost always bombarded with requests to start the anime. Even if the channels specified up front that they wouldn't start the anime, some of the more desperate and toxic fans refused to accept it. I'm not saying every One Piece fan is crazy (I consider myself a fan), but the loud minority is really hard to deal with. In their minds, continuing to ask will force the reactor to reconsider. I'm hoping that doesn't happen here. I don't think Milena + Lola plan to start the anime, so people should keep that in mind when voting. Maybe things will be different now that the anime remake has been announced, but I wouldn't count on it. It actually makes me think people will hound the reactors even harder. I love the world of One Piece. I've followed this amazing series for 20+ years, beginning with the infamous 4Kids dub. I'm thrilled to see so many people opening their minds to One Piece for the first time. And yet, I'm weary of the drama.

I liked the one piece characters in the beginning but then the arcs and the main fights kept getting longer and longer after a while with the same repetitive story structure after every arc, and I really don't like the long fights, there is no special abilites in one piece fights after they start using haki, merely hand to hand combat, so why making the fights so long and make the villains looks bad and harmless that can't defeat luffy when the result is the same at the end luffy is going to win, it's pointless, at least you can make luffy cooler if he ended the fight quickly, the show seemed to lose it serious tone after the time skip, it seems to focus a lot on the younger audience which is fine but don't ignore the adult audience, oda think that the one piece adult fans are just a bunch of perverts who only care about fan-service, even the characters design was better before the time skip

It’s not confirmed when it’s releasing - it’s just been confirmed that Wit Studio (Attack on Titan) + Netflix are remaking the whole series. So it’ll probably be seasonal releases.

I don't think it would be be something similar to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. I was never a big fan of the anime but watched it to some extend before I dropped it. One Piece, compared to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, is not as action-focused and have a great storytelling, focusing more on the characters. The cast of the live-action adaptation did an awesome job as actors. The adaptation received good reception from critics and also from non-anime watchers. Perhaps the best way to describe it is by comparing it to Pirates of the Caribbean. I will be also happy if Andor or Gen V win the poll, I also enjoyed both shows. I haven't watched Firefly yet but I've heard great things about it.

I don't think it's trash for quite a while of episodes. Lots of earlier moments in the story I prefer in anime format rather than manga. Emotional moments especially. And it has that old anime charm. WIT Remake sounds interesting but again it's gonna be in seasonal format I heard, it's also 10+ years or probably even 20+ commitment. They'll probably dump it on MAPPA or some other big studio in the future after a couple of seasons. Anyway, for girls it's too much of a commitment regardless. There's enough One Piece content on youtube, reactions as well. When/if WIT remake will drop then it will be worth of a discussion.

Out of these options I like Andor the best. I've watched both Gen V and One Piece, and while they were fun, they are the kind of shows I never think about again after watching. Andor actually has some interesting themes and messaging going on. It would be interesting to see the perspective of someone without much knowledge of the Star Wars universe. So yeah, my vote goes to Andor. Haven't seen Firefly though.

It's because Disney thinks a good Star Wars product is filled with Jedi and cameos and terrible acting and to be honest, Star Wars fans are so desperate for content they eat it up. Kenobi was fucking trash, Boba Fett was trash, Mando s3 was hot garbage, Ahsoka bored me to tears. The best part of Andor is that it doesn't feel like a Star Wars show. It feels like a GOOD show, set in the Star Wars universe

Firefly is an interesting option. 10 or so years ago it could've won the poll but now its cult classic status got a bit rusty plus Whedon's tarnished reputation. And I guess newer younger generation of people at most only heard of it or just simply doesn't care. Even though I still love Firefly to me it's not even close to being Whedon's best work, Buffy (and spin-off Angel) will always be his best accomplishment in my eyes. Would love to see you girls' reactions to Buffyverse one day although it definitely hasn't aged well in some aspects. But I doubt it would ever do good in a poll, I don't think there's much overlap between Buffy fans and your audience (even though it's quite diverse: from shounen anime to the likes of Wire). Oh well, there's enough reactions to Buffyverse on youtube, its fanbase is still alive and well. On the other options, I never cared for Star Wars, I’ve seen 2 seasons of Mandalorian and thought that it’s just okay at best. Andor has quite the praise though, seems like it’s closer to the Rogue One movie which I remember actually liking. Not a bad choice I guess. Maybe I would even watch it alongside you. Still haven’t seen Gen V even though I love the Boys. Didn’t see your reactions to it but if you love Boys as well it’s probably the best and most natural choice on the poll for you. I’d rather watch it on my own first though. One Piece live-action surprised me, it’s a good show even if you don’t take in an account how bad other anime live-actions were and how difficult it is to make into live-action One Piece specifically, with all its goofiness and whimsical and extremely emotional nature. It’s still not as good as anime and especially manga for me but creators deserve respect for what they managed to accomplish I think. I probably would've been the most excited to watch your reactions to One Piece rather than other options tbh. There will be a lot of people nagging you to watch anime or read the manga after that though, I gotta warn you lol

I humbly recommend Halt and Catch Fire for the next poll. To me, it's on the same quality level as The Bear and Breaking Bad but flies under the radar for some reason. It has an incredible cast (including Mackenzie Davis and Lee Pace) and you can tell the writers really care for each character. 4 Seasons with a complete story arc that wraps up beautifully.

It was considered a great live-action show even for people who don't like or watch anime. Perhaps it was successful with non-anime watchers because it has some Pirates of the Caribbean vibes. Also the cast is good; they managed to deliver a performance that feels real and not weird or exaggerate. It's also interesting that they are filming in Cape Town, recycling and taking advantage of the leftovers from the Black Sails production. They are reusing the same ships built for Black Sails.

Star Wars (or everything else) from Disney has become really off-putting. A: "There's this great show called Andor!" B: "What's it about?" A: "It's set in the Star Wars universe and ... One Piece live action and Firefly have strangely a lot in common. They're both about an ensemble of lovable characters in a detailed breathing world, the story ranges from superfun to tragic in a way that makes sense. I think it's too early for them to watch the anime of One Piece: it's a huge commitment that surpasses HxH. Firefly on the other hand can be the gateway drug to Buffy the vampire slayer :D

I'm surprised to see One Piece in the poll. We're getting at least 6 seasons here to adapt the first half of the story (which is very likely since Netflix is pumping money into the franchise non-stop right now with the remake of the anime), 12 to 14 seasons if the whole story is adapted. To be honest, I would have waited a little longer, as they both prefer completed/soon-to-be-completed series. But I also think that there is simply too much request. But I would laugh if the Netflix anime remake ends up being the better version of the original anime, live action and the remake anime and people start pushing the anime remake. :D
