Violet Evergarden Episode 2 Reaction

Comments

You the man Robert, I renewed my patron subscription when I saw they were doing VE and wanted to comment this exact thing. Glad someone else is excited for this journey and wants them to experience it right ❤️

Delta172

hard disagree

KIMI

I think one of them has seen it already if I recall correctly

ODIS

"It takes a long time for anything to happen, even though a lot happens every episode", it's true that a lot happens in every episode, the pace is very fast and that makes it more enjoyable, the 1st part is a contradiction tho: characters' goals in each arc are not important, experiences are. And everything is built in great detail, characters's psychology and behavior make sense and are very interesting and there are many emotional and cool moments

HgPt

If you can't handle the first 30 episodes, you won't enjoy the best arc. It takes a long time for anything to happen, even though a lot happens every episode.

Nathan Elkin

Episode 7-13 could be more interesting for you. But maybe it's just not your cup of tea. I have a really hard time to get into HxH. I never get further than Episode 30. Maybe I will try again when Lola & Milena reached the last Arc. I heard many good things about it.

Robert H.

I literally fell asleep. lmao and im not even tryna be mean. Im trying soo hard with this show. I just cant get into it.

ReactorHero

A Silent Voice > Your Name, but both are very good.

Robert H.

My name is Beau and I think if you watch the anime movie Your Name it will change your life

KIMI

Off topic. I think you should react to the movie "your name" you will love it

David Brown

they made her initial design and then decided that actually She's Saber Now

beans

If you want romance, you should totally watch Snow White with Red Hair (akagami no shirayukihime)! It's genuinely one of the softest and sweetest romances I've ever seen, combined with a really beautiful and interesting setting pretty similar to violet. Also the main character, Shirayuki is really one of my favourite protagonists ever, she's so good and kind and strong.

beans

The thing is, the first 120 minutes of the second movie are good, very good. Heck, I love it. But then the plot goes in a direction that I don't like at all, which was also hinted at in the first 10 minutes with a small sub-sentence. I really wish they had done the last 10-15 minutes differently.

Robert H.

That’s also why I think the sequel movie just doesn’t fit after the anime, which already makes several changes that also made the story diverge a lot from the novels. The anime ending is a much better closure to the character we’ve seen develop in the series, instead the movie just trows all of it out of the window to force a divergence towards the novels when it’s clearly too late to do so.

Sebox

I’ll never get tired of suggesting them to not watch the sequel movie, the side-story movie is very good, but the sequel one is just a slap on the face of the anime series imo, just terrible. Anyway, they’ll decide themselves what to do

Sebox

One small sub correction: when Cattleya (the girl with long black hair that you like) hugged Hodgins she was making fun of the fact that when they shared the night she called him by his first name which is Claudia (a girl’s name), and that his parents called him like that because they wanted a girl. The subtitles messed up by saying: “Just because you wanted a girl”, it should’ve been “Just because your parents wanted a girl”. Not that it’s important, but otherwise it doesn’t really make sense.

Sebastiano Barreca

uJrath

I searched my name and got nothing but weird stuff.

Shivering King Banana

yesssss

CARLOS EDUARDO SAVZYN

As far as movies go you have to watch Sword of The Stranger. Right up your alley. It has a straightforward simple plot which hides a great level of spiritual/moral depth. It's truly a perfect movie, definitely in the top 5 for me.

Orr Malus

If you are looking for a romance film, please start with Your Name, it is the best choice to start with anime films

Wallas

No. This animated sequence was created in 2016 when Kyoto Animation announced it would adapt Violet Evergarden. During the adaptation, however, more and more changes came together, making the anime something new. But episode 5-8 and episode 10-11 is very similar in the book, even if the order of events does not fit. Actually, the story starts with episode 7, then episode 10 and 11, then episode 6. The fifth chapter is simply set several years in the future, the sixth and seventh chapters are roughly episode 8/9, but they changed so much that you can't really say they adapted the story. And chapter 8 is then what we saw in episode 1, where unlike the anime, Violet lives on the Evergarden estate for several months before she starts working at the post office. There she learns this very elegant demeanor that we'll see in episodes 4-13 and in the first movie. The anime doesn't really explain it, in my head canon she visits Evergarden regularly and learned it that way. The finale from the second book is very roughly the same as the finale from the anime, though they made such big changes here that it changed the plot of the whole show. In my opinion, anime >> book. Oh well, the controversial episode 5 is the first chapter of book 3 and the first movie is based on the second chapter of book 3, thereby also all the references to episode 5 in the movie. But by changing the plot, the narrative in episode 5 loses its raison d'être and just seems wrong in the anime. But let's just see how they react to that. The second movie, which I hope they don't watch (but I like the first 120 mins very much), is completely anime original and somehow tries to bring the anime and the book together, with the only thing the two have in common being the ending point where our main character finds herself at the end.

Robert H.

Yeah. Game of Thrones is infamous example where ending killed legacy of the series for most of people. But for me specifically it didn't. I still love first 4 seasons, have good memories from seasons 5-6 and even season 7 wasn't that bad. Haven't seen Nana yet but yeah, that's unfortunate if it won't have a proper ending. But it happens. Vagabond is another example. And sadly Hunter x Hunter probably will have the same fate. Another Togashi’s work, Yu Yu Hakusho, had pretty meh rushed ending. Manga has a lot of those. Great starts, decent stories but flopped or just meh endings. For your question, which is better, to be perfect but end abruptly or end but flop, probably first is better. ‘Firefly’, another Joss Whedon's great show aside from 'Buffy', was cancelled and left great memories for a lot of people. Had great potential but who knows maybe by the end it would’ve sucked and ruined show’s legacy. They made a movie later that has proper ending for the story but it’s still not the same. I’d say there’s one example for me where ending is ruining the whole experience before for good. ‘Usagi Drop’. Very wholesome cute anime, it didn’t have much of an ending in anime. But there was ending in the manga and oh boy, I wish there wasn’t. It ruins the whole story because that ending changed implications of earlier events entirely. I won’t spoil how you can google it. But you probably know or at least heard about it.

KotBegemot

For comedy I highly recommend you spy x family and haikyu! I know you already heard of them so I just hope that you still have them in mind. Both are great with lots of heart and really good characters🥰 there is also bocchi the rock, it's short and the story is so good too !

sakurabraus

What the hell lmao I can't believe this. Wait so what's the animated stuff in that compilation since it's not in the anime?

Payam Sharifi

I'm surprised how much work you're putting into this and yeah I get you. I do think in this screenshot the yellow tint is even less of a problem. All this proves to me is this is largely a matter of lighting rather than camera. And I do still far prefer the new camera. To each their own I guess.

Payam Sharifi

https://i.imgur.com/CLkU6gW.jpg Found 2 videos with the same angle and background and hoodie. Top is new camera. Bottom is old camera. Right side has adjusted colors. For the new camera I added more blue, and for the old camera I increased the saturation a little.

Orr Malus

Fruits Basket is a classic. Also thanks for the reminder to change my avatar after 2 years on your patreon! 😅

Berezant

In the intro you mentioned wanting more romance. It's not strictly romance, but you should watch Fruits Basket after Violet. Its also a female lead and the story has a lot of heart, comedy, romance, and character development.

I Have No Enemies

Someone said this earlier but great comedies with female leads would definitely be Bocchi the Rock or Kaguya Sama Love is War! I know y’all would love them 😭

Trevor Gallucci

My name is David, haha and I really liked this angle. You guys are very cool. You should know that you are the only people I have ever paid Patreon for in my life. I'm here for HxH and now for Violet Evergarden. Girls, I love you, keep being you.

David Brown

You're right!

Doug

Aww ty girls, I hope both you are having a great weekend <3

Jack SV

Agreed. And like I said in another comment, Milena's glasses also get in the way of her eyes with this angle.

ODIS

The thing with this camera angle though, is that you're looking down, and half the time Milena's glass frames are blocking her eyes. The part most important in truly determining one's reaction to something... I personally prefer you looking at eye level. I feel more connected. But if I'm in the minority and everyone prefers this, then just ignore this comment.

ODIS

I don't know if you're familiar with the YouTuber The Needle Drop, he's a music reviewer. Someone once dropped $1500 in the chat just to find out when a particular review was dropping lmao. Don't doubt how crazy rich people are 😅

TeaDrinker3000

I want to know what the guy is working then. Just throwing 500 euros per month out of the window to play 50 supporters on Patreon? If he doesn't know what to do with his money, he can give it to me. :D

Robert H.

There's quite a few of us, rally together after HH haha

Alex

Ok yes it has a definite yellow tint (which I assume is more the lighting/room than the camera) but have you gone back and compared? The old one looks so washed out, like drained of color and life in comparison. I definitely much prefer the new one. And like it's not gonna look perfect without some color correction either way (your edit is a definite improvement, but idk the current look doesn't bother me).

Payam Sharifi

Imagine if all the most frequent patrons were just from one dude with a dozen Patron accounts 🤔🤔🤔

TeaDrinker3000

In that case, please don't change to your real name, I like reading your comments and it would be too difficult to adjust and remember who you are.

Jay Craig

I'm only 6 episodes in but the animation and music is some of the best I've seen in a long time!

TeaDrinker3000

I ask only to be remembered as the person who has stared sadly out of a rainy window for years waiting for Haikyuu reactions.

Jay Craig

Seeing as Milena was asking for our real names, my birthname is actually TeaDrinker2999. TeaDrinker3000 is just a nickname my family uses. TeaDrinker2999 was also a nickname my parents used to call my older sister because her real name is a bit difficult to pronounce.

TeaDrinker3000

My boy Benedict getting rejected like that :( He even got teary eyed too... hang in there dude

HenryM

I agree with TeaDrinker, angry pingu is too cute

HenryM

The new camera position itself is perfect with regards to distance and centering, but it should be lowered a wee bit. You're looking down a whole lot more. Either that or move the sceen up a bit more? That's my two cents 💁‍♀️ It still looks good though.

TeaDrinker3000

Keep angry pingu!!

TeaDrinker3000

Your lie in april, romance and comedity

Vicente de Paulo Guimaraes Priante

I'll say it on every single episode, the music in this show is out of this world good. It's just so perfect, moving, light and heavy where it needs to be. It just captures the essence of the show so beautifully.

Camzeee

lol, funniest part is that you remember my name and it's not in my user name but that's actually my second name. i couldn't care less but if i suddenly changed my username to tatiana i think you'd be confused. i wanted to change my pic but i feel sad for angry pingu. i'm actually only watching the intro because i had no time to finish the second episode before work so i'll just finish it tomorrow, watch the reaction and then the rest of the video. i'm really looking forward to having more free time. i literally have seasons of the wire and your reactions to it to catch up... not to mention i don't think i've watched oast ep 30 of hxh. the moment i start having 2 consecutive entire days off again i'm just binging shows and reactions 😂

sand_fl

"13 episodes is not enough". Well there are 2 movies... In my opinion the series stops at a good place so I think the movies are kind of optional. But if you enjoy the series more time spent with violet and the crew is enjoyable. I don't think they've ever reacted to a full length movie before.

PoorHector

Benedict Blue is the blond haired young man, and Roland is the older friendly man with the beard.

Robert H.

I guess it pretty much depends on the show. Something like Game of Thrones, the bad ending killed the series. Which I also found out today: The series Nana, which I recently fell in love with, has been canceled because the author has been seriously ill since 2009 and can't finish her manga. :( Kinda hard to say which is better: Cancelled but almost perfect until then or Finished but so terrible you can't watch the last part.

Robert H.

Cattleya is the name of the girl you really like, Iris mentioned how she's the one who gets the most interesting jobs. Also, protect Erica at all costs

I’m so glad there are people who can give good recommendations on this patreon. This, Ranking of Kings, Bocchi, and Kaguya Sama are all goated shows and I hope they get to them all at one point

My Toasty Toast

What I would like to add is that Violet Evergarden is not based on a manga, but on a light novel (4 books), with the anime taking a very different route. In the anime, Violet is 14-16 years old (hard to tell since there's no birth date), while in the light novel she starts working for the company at age 17. She is a very different character, less naive, more cold and has less self-doubt. Personally, I like the anime version much better, but that's a matter of debate. Little Spoiler for the Book (not the Anime): I found it interesting that the anime does not use magic at all, while the book goes completely off the rails in that regard. Not only does Violet use a 2m tall magical battle axe called Witchcraft in the book, she fights a religious cult in one chapter (after she started working in the company) and saves the demigod Lux, who becomes her colleague in the company. In the anime they decided to introduce the characters Iris and Erica, which I much prefer :D If you want to see pictures of Violet from the book, here's a little compilation: https://imgur.com/a/8efygh7 And here an image of Lux: https://i.pinimg.com/1200x/ab/e3/9f/abe39f2909051508f4ae50cc1ad3731f.jpg

Robert H.

idk about full-on tv comedies but Cobra Kai is pretty much a comedy lol. For anime, definitely Kaguya-sama: Love is War is peak romcom.

Danny

Yeah I'd probably say AoT is like my fifth favorite anime or so, and Kaguya-sama is like my seventh. It really is just so funny and genuinely has shockingly strong characters and emotional moments too. It's too early to consider Bocchi an all-time favorite or anything but yeah I love it too, one of the most instantly lovable anime ever.

Payam Sharifi

I find it hard to rank a romcom nxt to a shounen/action since im more bias/prefer the latter. But yes, Love is War is so damn good I actually would rank it among the top shows ive watched across all genres.

Danny

Same on the ranking

Omar O

dont worry jack we remember you too

LM Reactions

Well, makes sense. I'm all about the journey though so bad endings usually don't affect my enjoyment of a show overall. 'Scrubs' is also another example like that. Great show, you just don't have to watch it till the end.

KotBegemot

Lol, they hate "How I met your Mother" because of the ending ruining the entire show for them.

Komikall

Well shout out to all the homies who are remembered by both girls. I envy you guys lol. Also since I’m sort of new( I became a patreon last year I think..?) I didn’t know about this place but it seems a bit better picture and angle wise. In whatever location you guys decide to record, we will be watching!

Jack SV

Please watch the OVA between episodes 4 and 5. This one is on Netflix as the Violet Evergarden Special and is about 30 minutes long and in my opinion quite helpful for the consistency of the following episodes.

Robert H.

Oh, that's right! I had completely forgotten that's how its ending xD I was a manga reader so I'm not following animation details too closely aha. Yeah that'll probably end up being the first :p

Alex

Attack on Titan Part 4 is 90 minutes long. I would say this will be the first movie :D I kinda wish for Silent Voice, another Kyoto Animation work.

Robert H.

Kaguya Sama is my favorite feel-good comedy anime that I personally rank it next to Attack on Titan even though it has no business being up there

My Toasty Toast

The old camera had a better color balance. This one has too much yellow. Here's proof: https://i.imgur.com/9KXtYNp.jpg Top is a regular screenshot. Bottom one has more blue and a little more red. I think it looks better.

Orr Malus

I think Bocchi the Rock or Kaguya-Sama are good options

Doug

maybe related to this, they could watch Liz and the Blue Bird? im sure they'd love it (also i watched it before hibike euphonium so im sure they could too)

beans

Seeing how they're enjoying this so far, maybe this might be the series that gets them to react to a movie.

Alex

Girls, if you want romance, comedy, drama and a girl for MC then Fruits Basket (2019 version) is for you. I hope you'll put it on poll one day. It's about the same number of episodes as FMAB though so it's not a short one. Just for comedy and romance 'Kaguya-sama: Love is war’ is probably the best right now. That’s for anime. As for TV Series I don’t know much about comedies. If you like ‘Friends' then 'How I met you mother’ I guess, I have nice memories of it but you've probably seen it already. ‘Community’ is also a classic. Lots of great British comedies. Like 'Peep Show'. 'Coupling', relatively forgotten Stephen Moffat’s gem. My choice for TV Series reaction would be 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' (my favourite TV show), which has a lot of great comedy, awesome female lead and strong cast of characters in general. There’s romance and drama but some of it didn't age well I gotta admit. Still, absolute classic. I doubt it would ever get on a poll let alone win anything. But I’d be ecstatic if it happened.

KotBegemot

The talk at the beginning reminds me of my bachelor's degree. We had to do 60 experiments in total of 4 hours each + about 20 hours of protocol writing (God I hated that). And the university had bought these great new American oscilloscopes that we were supposed to use now and our lab supervisor at the time just said, "I tried them and they suck and are worse than the ones from the GDR that we used before. There's no going back though, so live with it now." I have to admit, I missed the old things. Fewer buttons, no unnecessary LED display and bells and whistles, and for some reason the error interval was smaller on these. Probably the new ones have Planned obsolescence too. I think I'll have to ask the old university if any have broken. :D

Robert H.

Lmao I feel like y'all's intros have been even more entertaining than usual recently (also the new camera is DEFINITELY better and appreciated, rest assured)

Payam Sharifi

(Just my opinion) I think we should recommend more human story anime’s to them with no superpowers, shows like Your lie in April, Monster, Etc Etc. PS we still waiting for that Q&A Video lol 😂

Jay

Welp, time to change name + pfp it seems haha

Alex

Bocchi is God

Danny

Love the "new" place you're recording in.

Komikall

Awwww yesssss here we go again Edit: btw another great anime with an all female cast/characters is Bocchi the Rock. That’s a great friendship between girls
