2023-04-08 03:47:52 +0000 UTCWhat I really enjoy about the guards and farmhands who are bullies is that while they are simple characters they specifically become antagonistic when their fragile world view is threatened Fox gets upset when he’s sees Thorfinn showing no value for his life so he mutilates him and the farmhands are bothered by Einar and Thorfinn making so much progress when slaves shouldn’t have the success they themselves have This even stretches to Thorkell who acts as a symbol for all Viking Nordic men when he’s upset by Canute using poison and minimal conflict to end any promise of war

2023-04-08 01:21:35 +0000 UTCBtw, the new opening was storyboarded and directed by Tetsuro Araki. The Director of Attack on Titan S1-3 and Death Note. He and Vinland's director, Shuhei Yabuta, worked together back on AoT. Really cool to see Araki work on Vinland to make this incredible opening.

Your confusion if this is possibly Einar a few years in the future was intentional, but didn't really have its effect in the anime, since this confusion is already cleared up later in the episode.
