Canute hanging the warriors who steal women and shiny things.. is very understandable for us in our timeline.. but 1000 years ago it was so bizzare thing from a king.. like for example today: if a king today execute policeman for shooting a gun.. even if it happend to be self defense the king dosn't like police-man who shooting without order.. so execute.. that how wierd Cnut is..

Also a late reply, but the first three seasons of AOT animation-wise aren't consistent at all. The studio switch and nostalgia gives people rose tinted lenses. I would say the production gradually gets worse. S1 was insane, 2D Colossal Titan and a lot of high frame-rate highly animation action shots. S2 had some powerpoint presentation moments along with needing CG for the Colossal Titan, but it also had a visual makeup team to make the characters' faces more detailed as well as awesome lighting and truly inspired directing. S3 part 1 has one of the most iconic bits of animation of the whole series, BUT despite the improved more manga-accurate character models it has a lot of flat moments and is not as consistently well animated as S1 was. And the second part of the series was extremely underdone. It had less powerpoint moments but besides the three freelance shots, the whole 10 episodes were produced in 6 months. It was extremely rushed and it shows with how bad the Colossal Titan looked. One thing to keep in mind is when we get to S4, the second part is HUGELY improved over the first part and shows what the new studio can do (remember the original studio was especially created for the anime and had the benefit of starting with their own vision without expectations). The thing you are right about is the focus. Chainsaw Man shows Mappa is capable of insane amounts of detail and effort for an IP. I mean, it should be obvious since Mappa is a huge studio, but yes a lot of people were hilariously clueless enough to call them bad because they didn't know anything about the studio and just heard Mappa was doing S4 and they didn't like S4 and so they went along with what everyone else said.

i actually agree with you both. they only pointed out their opinions on the animation this time and i did that last episode, so it would be hypocritical of me to want to ban them. they surely can be a pain in the ass from time to time, but ngl, i also laugh quite a bit with their opinions on vinland some times.

I get what you're saying but season 1 of Vinland had literally no screen time for thorfinn nor did he have any development. the author does that on purpose. Thats why Askeladd is there to steal the show. But this is Thorfinns redemption arc and like the girls have been saying its time for therapy. Its honestly crazy that this season has spilt the fans so much. I think theres a big difference between the people who truly understand the message in season 1 vs people who got caught up in a lot of the action. I personally think this is the one of the greatest character development arcs in all of anime/manga and it is why its on the top 10 manga on MAL vs aot being like 90 something. This arc is why Vinland is the best. I understand your concern but ride it out. This is simply a beautiful arc

If you know absolutely anything about me, I have patience for good storytelling and non-action oriented shows. The key is GOOD dialogue. Better Call Saul is my favorite show over Breaking Bad. I simply don't like the way it's being done so far in Vinland Saga. It's too heavy handed and on the nose for me. And I appreciate you, Kara for defending me. Every time I leave even the slightest bit of critique for a show there's always someone on here that decides to insult me to defend their favorite show that can do no wrong. I never said it was bad. I'm just not impressed with the way it's being done sofar.

On YouTube, someone wrote a very nice timeline comment. Hopefully this will help you. In the manga it was all a bit more practical, as every scene with Canute and every change to Thorfinn was dated, so you always knew exactly where you were in time.

Don't worry, season 2 will get its highlights. Season 2 is sort of a reset of the story and we have to go through an introduction to the characters again. Therefore, the first X episodes of season 2 are more like episodes 1-4 of season 1 with a lot of dialogue.

I'll probably post my histroic comparison when the next Canute episode is released, but there is one thing I can say about the episode that has been omitted: Eadric of Mercia was executed by Canute shortly after his coronation. But that is also somehow understandable. Who would want a subject who kills his king?

heres that person that cant seem to understand the importance of dialogue over action. Character growth is not always best done through action. Literally we had a whole episode of Askeladd just telling the boys his past and it was a a top tier episode. In fact, a powerful dialogue serves more for a character than just an action scene. Growth doesnt happen immediately. Theres something called setting the tone of the story and the environment and buildup AOT was simply too fast paced in the beginning. It was able to control itself during s3 and got much better there. If you want fast paced arc cuz you have the patience of a 10 yr old then whatever. But there is growth being done here and if you cant see it then you may as well just go watch DBZ.

Yeah I can respect some people prefer more action in their stories, but honestly think these first 6 episodes have been on par with some of the best of season 1. Nothing has hit the heights of 19, 22 and 24 yet for me personally, but considering those are some of the best episodes of any show I've watched that's not exactly a criticism. My biggest complaint so far is that I've got to wait a week before I get my next hit of Vinland

I wouldn’t say “poor” unless your standards are really really high, there have been a lot less detail compared to s1 and a few moments of “oof that looks a little rough” but I also remember a few moments like that in s1 too so 🤷🏻‍♀️ They’re doing a great job with what they have so far imo

@PM remember that Canute said in season 1 that he’d teach them (Vikings) who and what to fight against, to control the sword and where it goes essentially and in this episode shows that he’s already changing the way Vikings do things, which they have a problem with as well as Thorkell. Canutes paradise goes deeper includes that of the Vikings more so than anyone else because he sees their flaws humanity and again want to “control the sword” and to create war to end war, so not the best idea but seems more realistic to me.

As a manga reader I have to say I think this season is doing an amazing job with its adaptation, and it being slow is definitely done on purpose. One of the reason I love the author Makoto Yukimura is that he knows how to write deep characters and bide his time for it to eventually pay off. For me as a big fan of the books I hope the people who thinks it’s boring to keep up with it cause seriously we don’t deserve this adaption.

During the production of season 2 they mentioned that they will be a change in animation since their wont be as much money going into it as season 1. The animation has been poor the entire season so far lol Im just skeptical and find every thing thats wrong with the animation. Its still passable to me tho

Yeah there are always lower effort episodes to sort of spend the time on later events. But I agree I don’t like it. I basically didn’t like much of their efforts on season 4 of AOT. After 3 seasons with loads of iconic animated moments to none in season 4 (I know others would disagree but the strength of season 4 of AOT is the story, when it used to be the story and the animation together) but then you have chainsaw man which is really well animated. So goes to show it’s not the studio, it’s the people and the time they are given to do it.

The previous episode had some pretty jarring anatomical mistakes on how the characters were drawn. The reason for all the close-ups is because it's cheaper to draw one character's face rather than a zoomed out scene full of characters. This episode had countless still shots with zero animation and just a voice on top. I don't like where this is going.

Orr Malus

To be honest, I haven't been that impressed with this second season of Vinland Saga so far. It's been a bit slow and drawn out and the characters feel as if they're overexplaining and overmonologuing. I know that's the anime style, but character growth is best done through actions and so far, not much has happened in S2. Attack on Titan does a much better job of developing their characters while pushing the story along. First season of Vinland was far better. It had a dynamic relationship, characters grew as a result of the drama unfolding, backstory was unveiled in interesting and timely means. I hope it finds its stride soon.

I like the animation generally but that’s two episodes in a row where they should really cut the close ups of peoples mouths. There’s a reason you don’t draw each individual tooth in animation!
