February 2021 Progress Report

Eros here to bring the February 2021 progress report!

Before I begin I need to preface this with the fact that in February  Texas suffered from a winter storm that consisted of rolling blackouts, temperatures of 0 degrees Fahrenheit, and weather (snow) that the state’s infrastructure was not prepared for. I say this because half of our staff here (including I) live in texas endured this and affected our productivity on our month’s tasks. So I hope this taken into mind when viewing this report if it feels lighter than those that came before it.

With that let’s get into what was able to be despite circumstances!

Art

Since I do the sprite work and given the state my home was in during the winterstorm I didn’t get my usual wall of sprites to show off. Sorry!!

1 new Hordes, Kalei, and Noel sprite bases!

The additional Hordes base has some… interesting… variants but without giving away too much this particular sprite is used when our rat king hears something utterly hilarious that he left in a “””coughing””” fit.

Kalei’s additional sprite doesn’t have any variants (yet?) but it’s basically used when he’s trying to catch people’s attention.

Noel’s additional sprite is used to express his more angry/despaired emotions.

Time for some backgrounds!

Rooftop (Done by Eros)

Used in Noel/DJ’s routes when they are on a mission.

Haven Home Player’s Cottage (Done by Happypaca)

Used as the Rosita/Mitts/Player’s home when going on any route that takes place in Haven Home. I have this as my current desktop background it's so pretty.

Meeting Grounds (Done by TJ)

A complete redo of the background that first shows up at the beginning of the game!

Ramon’s Home (Done by TJ)

Ramon’s penthouse bachelor pad. It’s all he could afford after the divorce, woe is he.

Music

As we’re remaking the demo/first chapter of the game we revised some songs! Mainly the BGM used in The Garden portion and the Twilight Church’s night music. The church also now has its own theme when visited during the day.

I’ve personally made 30-minute loops of the garden, club, and love songs since they help me relax and keep focused on work.

Gamedev

Because of the storm, I wasn’t able to prepare everything the programmers need to remake the demo/first chapter. Additionally one of our programmers also lives in Texas so it would have caused a setback regardless. But I managed to get what was needed by the end of Feb so by early to late March we’ll have our fancy new demo done. I plan on putting it up on steam to expose it to newer eyes now that it’ll be up to much greater quality than the original.

Supporting Character Reveals

To make up for the lightness of this update, let’s have supporting character design reveals!

This is Ariel!

They are Ramon’s child. The image says “son” but it’s a sub-plot point when going on either Ramon or Ariel’s paths about how they should raise and address their gender non-conforming child. For the time being Ariel’s pronouns are they/them.

Look at them! They used to be such a cute family don’t you think?

...oh, in case if it wasn’t obvious or hinted at before. Irene and Ramon used to be married and have a child together. So “Demon Daddy” is a very fitting title for Ramon.

Tank Top Fellas

If you remember from the demo there was this rather tall NPC that stood behind Hordes. Well, now there are at least 10 of them. They don’t have names and are usually referred to as just The Tank Top Fellas (TTFs) and GOD why are they so beefy? Why? Who did this I’m so angry. (I did this)

I have a very love-hate relationship with anything related to Hordes. Mostly hate though even if he’s voiced by my girlfriend. I’m so OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGGGHHHHH this man just makes me upset who made you!!! (I made him)

At the very least I was given permission by Kalei/Fayebael’s writer( Chase Beck) to insert him as one of the Tank Top Fellas….
