TURN IT AROUND

It was good, although I knew most of what was covered just through living through it, having done a lot of reading old zines & reading Gimme Something Better. The focus on Gilman & the way the scene worked when it worked well was great & made me feel proud & idealistic at the same time. I never felt fully in the Berkeley scene, because living in so deep East Oakland, it could take me three hours to get to Gilman! So, I spent a lot of time by myself, & a lot of time on the bus! While a lot of the issues for us Gen Xers came from absent adults - that absence was also freeing. Then it was even more freeing when you found an adult who’d give you the reigns & let you have a go! It was also a trip to hear Iggy Pop talking about Eggplant & Cometbus, what a coup! Anyhow, give it a watch if you like these sorts of things!
