Exclusive Content: Kemono Friends Doujinshi Storyboards (3/3)

The Kemono Friends doujinshi was probably the first publication we ever brought directly to sell at Comiket in Japan.
At the time, we paired it with another doujinshi based on Zootopia. Because of this combination, we were nearly categorized as a "furry fetish circle" back then.

I remember feeling pretty discouraged for a while. Our original plans to create more content for Kemono Friends had been disrupted, and I suddenly had no clear direction for our next book.
By that time, the once-mainstream Kantai Collection genre had already started to fade, while the rising star Kemono Friends was abruptly discontinued due to various controversies.
What remained were mobile game-based works — a genre I was completely unfamiliar with.

I initially planned to try making something for SINoALICE, since it was produced by Yoko Taro, the creator of NieR: Automata, and I really loved the art style (especially Cinderella).
But after a while, I realized the character interactions in the game weren’t as rich as I had imagined, and I couldn’t find much inspiration for derivative works.

Just when I was about to fall into another creative slump, I unexpectedly stumbled upon gameplay videos of Fate/Grand Order.
Even though I had known about the game for a while, the huge number of characters made it hard for me to get into it. But by chance, I watched gameplay featuring Shuten-douji and Jeanne d'Arc Alter — and was instantly drawn in by their interactions.
In that moment, I knew I had found the subject of our next book.

As for the next batch of storyboards, I’m still debating whether to go with Zootopia or FGO.
Considering the recent release of the Zootopia 2 teaser, I just might prioritize that.
