Roadmap August 2025

Hey everyone!

Since the release of 1.6, it’s been an absolutely wild ride. We’re only now getting a handle on the mountain of bugs that update introduced. For weeks it felt like we were juggling daggers - hundreds of mod updates flying out every week – but we’ve finally cleared most of the bigger issues. Along the way, we’ve also been cleaning up our code, improving performance, and making those behind-the-scenes changes that make everything run smoother (but that no one notices unless it breaks).

Right now, most of our time and resources are being poured into Vanilla Gravships Expanded. We want the first version out as soon as possible, and while I hate to utter the filthy words “live service,” that’s essentially the plan here. Gravships will keep getting new content after launch: gravship-on-gravship combat, building your own orbital platform… you name it.

We’ve also heard you loud and clear about Ancients. I’ve seen all the comments (some of you are getting a little creative with your demands), so rest assured: it’s happening. You’ll still get the starting scenario and most of the features you’ve grown used to. And no need to place a bounty on the mod to get it updated – I’m on it, promise.

Once Ancients is out, Landmarks Expanded will be next, with a great batch of new landmarks and fresh locations for you to explore.

After that, we’ll finally drop the promised Security remake. This isn’t just a touch-up – we’re rebuilding it from the ground up. Everything will be rebalanced to fit the current game. Some things will be weaker, sure, but that’s the reality of balance. When I first made this mod, I had no idea how absurdly powerful some stuff would turn out to be.

Megacorps is nearing the end of its design stage. It’s shaping up to be a massive ultratech expansion, turning your colonies into sci-fi megacities that pair perfectly with the latest DLC.

Then it’ll be Mechanoids and Factories’ turn in the spotlight. Both will be fully redesigned and remade from scratch. Factories in particular will finally become what I always wanted them to be: something your donations have now made possible.

I’ve also added a new section to the roadmap: On Hold. This doesn’t mean cancelled - just paused. Sometimes we’re waiting on code, waiting on a coder’s availability, or holding off until a redesign or higher-priority project is done. This is about transparency. I’d rather tell you it’s paused than pretend we’re developing 20 mods at once. When conditions are right, these mods will resume development.

As always, thank you for your patience, your feedback, and your support. Without you, these projects wouldn’t be anywhere near the scale they are today.

I did want ask you mention building our own orbital platform how long after the initial release do you think that would be its something I've not looked into on how doable it is right now besides just asteroid bases

I know these kinds of question are annoying, but how far along is ancients remake? I've been burning for some post apocalyptic bunker playthrough.

That and to read Oskar's updates. (But for real, his roadmaps are better than most triple A devs.) He does such a great job writing the updates and sharing his insight. If I'm not playing Rimworld at least I can be reading about it!

No, and it’s only in the planned section. It’s not being worked on. It may be cancelled any time. Don’t hold out for mods that are in the planned section. These are only just basic ideas that I have, with maybe some concept art and nothing more.

Is there any news on vanilla vehicles expanded: Imperial? I've been holding out for this mod for my royalty playthrough but there's been no word on it for almost two years now.

Loving to see Gravships getting so much love. And patiently waiting for Factory Module, RimFactory somehow is too much for me, but having nothing is too little. VE always seems to get the right balance.
