[DEVBLOG#71] Vanilla Books Expanded teaser
Added 2020-07-15 08:24:52 +0000 UTCHello everyone and welcome to another development diary.
I'd like to inform you that I am moving out today and I will become unavailable for the upcoming couple of days. Don't worry, everything will still work as normal - you can expect to immediately be invited to our discord when you subscribe to a discord-oriented tier, and programmers are hard at work at cracking the remaining code for Brewing, How to train your Dragon megamod as well as Vikings faction, more on those soon.
At the moment however I'd like to show you a little teaser of our new upcoming Vanilla Books Expanded mod, which allows your colonists to write various books - skill oriented ones, which pass their knowledge of a particular skill to pawns who read the book, as well as fiction books, newspapers, technological blueprints and maps.

We spent days working on the grammar generation, so that books have the same 'art' descriptions as sculptures - semi-random strings of adjectives, nouns and verbs to make it funny, quirky, interesting and rimworld-style.
I will post a few examples down below:

That's all for today! I hope you enjoyed some of those random descriptions. It certainly breathes some life into the hard work of book writing.
Thank you all for support and see you next week!

On second thought in a way it's useful as Oscar said the better the book quality they learn faster like maybe a single fire passion.. so if you have a clonists who can't do too much you can schedule him maybe to work half day and the second half learn like in school. It can be a long term process so not that OP i think

2020-07-15 15:19:14 +0000 UTCHmm i think you will balance it as always

2020-07-15 13:56:23 +0000 UTCNo number is set in stone yet, it’s too early. They will provide xp based on quality of the book, good good and above will provide more than actually performing the task, but it also means your pawn has to read and NOT perform the task.

2020-07-15 13:53:40 +0000 UTCHow much xp do they gain per hour for example? I belive it is going to be slower than doing the specific task itself, or i can force them into a zone where the books are in full recreation schedule it would be interesting.. Good idea btw :)

2020-07-15 13:46:18 +0000 UTCThey can be used indefinitely, they are essentially a joy item with skill gain. The book is never actually ‘read’. It’s continuously being read but is never actually finished. It would be too complex to micromanage that.

2020-07-15 10:10:33 +0000 UTCWill these books be a one-time-use item, one time per-pawn, or can they be used indefinitely?
2020-07-15 09:34:31 +0000 UTCthis is making rimworld more and more dwarf fortress like, love it
