The box office is right at the top of these stairs, so I overhear complaints/comments about the stairs every day. This one cracked me up, though. I hope the diaper bag, lunch box, and dry cleaning bags communicate that Mommy has, in fact, been running around all day.
Our house manager, Becca, has a pretty good knack for knowing what would make a funny cartoon. They told me that during rehearsal, it came up in conversation that one actor had borrowed another actor's eyeliner for her fox-nose. Becca wasn't sure how that could be distilled into to a one-panel cartoon. I'm happy with how I pulled it off!
This was overheard in the foyer, so I thought I had a quick and easy drawing ahead of me:
But I realized that if I drew the foyer below, readers wouldn't necessarily recognize it as a theater or know that The Little Prince was showing. It would work for the readers of the theater's e-newsletter who are familiar with our building and had just scrolled past ads for The Little Prince. But I wanted the cartoon to be understandable when I posted it online, too.

I'd either have to invent some signage or set the cartoon elsewhere. I tried setting it in the lobby, where the screen would have been in the upper-right-hand corner.

This wasn't the most exciting layout. The people are really small and there's no real foreground or background to add a sense of depth. I took some photos of the mezzanine to see if I could get a more interesting view.
I had to fudge the perspective so that the lobby screens were more prominent. And I'm really pleased with how it turned out!
The window and door of the studio office lent themselves perfectly to the storytelling here. I felt like a successful location scout for a movie.
The dad has a Mt. Hood baseball cap and Multnomah Falls t-shirt for local flavor.
This didn't happen, but it popped into my head mid-conversation and I sure was tempted to do it:
Thanks, as always, for supporting me on Patreon! If all goes according to schedule, SuperButch will start updating again in 2 weeks.
