Hi patrons!
Let’s give Barry a round of applause for the swoopy radio lettering. Even if it covered up some laboriously drawn hands wiping a beer glass in panel 2, per his script 😛
I took this jacket out of retirement to pose for Ruth and Lillian in this scene. I think I got it when I was a working musician and might be required to wear a black jacket at any moment. Here’s Ruth in panel 4:

If you live somewhere that was affected by heat waves, I hope it’s cooling off a bit! It’s been hovering in the low 90s in Portland, but that didn’t stop Pedalpalooza, Portland’s bikey summer fun.
Here are some photos from Bike Play 15: The Game of Bike!

This is the 15th year that The Working Theater Collective has put on an original play where the actors and audience travel from scene to scene by bike. Are there dance numbers and an original song? You bet. It’s one of my favorite things.

The Game of Bike was a Jumanji-esque story where our heroes get sucked into a board game. They have to battle Derailleus the Bike Demon and his bike imps to get their bikes back.

This year Bike Play arranged for a volunteer mechanic at each performance in case of flat tires or other issues. There were also 4-6 volunteer corkers to stand between the bike riders and the cross-traffic at big intersections. It can take a couple of minutes for 200 people to bike across a street, so it helped to have some friendly faces in high-vis vests letting the drivers know we’d be done as soon as possible. Most of the drivers were understanding, and some just sat back and enjoyed the spectacle.
Here’s Naomi and me, ready to stop traffic 😄
