This page has seven new faces that we haven't seen before and won't see again in this issue.
For some of the women, I started by drawing one aspect of Lillian's appearance (face shape, hair, etc) that might catch Captain Turtle's eye, then drew their other features to be definitely not Lillian. I also scrolled a bit on Instagram, one of my go-to activities for drawing lots of different faces.
My mental image for the election monitor started with that guy [Bob Sweeney] from "Toby Tyler," a Disney movie that was on my childhood VHS rotation. His face didn't end up looking at all similar, though.

I put lots of detail into his outfit since I knew I'd only have to draw it once. I wouldn't have to worry about keeping the pattern on his vest consistent and I wouldn't have to draw the tooling on his shoes a million times. (I gave Kansas a plaid dress on page 39, and by page 56 I was like "Effing PLAAAAAID!") I wanted his outfit to look era-appropriate but a little tacky/silly to the reader's eye.
Off the subject, Barry and I had a story meeting for Issue Eight yesterday! In related news, there's a food truck at Eastport Carts that makes an ube/vanilla soft serve frappuccino thing! Our goal is to keep up momentum so that by the time we post all of Issue 7 publicly, at the end of the summer, there will be new pages to post.
