(Did I tell you about that comics road trip? I drove; Barry gave a talk/demo at the library; I wandered around photographing old buildings; and then we found the BEST cake!)
Speaking of photo reference, I had to google "What does smoking look like" SO many times in the last few weeks! I was almost ready to ink panel 5 when I realized I'd drawn Gloria Winslet's cigarette facing the wrong direction.

Hmmm... Good question! The internet tells me that the first cigarettes with filters were made in 1936, but it took ~20 years for that to catch on. I drew these with filters so that they wouldn't just look like a bunch of plain wobbly tubes, but come to think of it, they'd be wobbly white tubes with lipstick stains :)
