This is one thing I absolutely hate about this series. Gojo was sealed purely for plot convenience. The writer knew he made a character that was too strong and just got him out of the way no matter how it looked. We saw that once the Prison Realm opened, Gojo looked at it for a few seconds and realized "oh no I need to get away from this thing." We saw him take a step away and turn around like he was about to distance himself from it. But then "Geto" shows up and says hi. And because of this, the strongest Jujutsu sorcerer ever, stands perfectly still for basically a full minute. Gojo obviously realized the danger of the Prison Realm, but decided "nah whatever, I am just going to stand perfectly still right next to it for 57 seconds and stare at this thing that looks like the friend I killed." I understand the whole 'playing with his emotions thing,' but him standing still for THAT LONG when he specifically knows he just needs to move away from that thing is just stupid. And unfortunately, as someone who has read further about this story further than what has been animated, strong people being defeated simply because they were "caught off guard" is a very common thing in this story and it fucking sucks. Strong beings are not defeated for good reason, or it is not well thought out in a way that makes it make sense or be meaningful for the story as a whole. It is like when Gege first coming up with the characters, they did not think of the future at all and got kind of stuck with no sensical place to go. . Gege (the author) fully admits that they don't like the story very much and di not want to continue it. They only continued it because their editor advised them to or whatever. Gege also specifically does not like Gojo. And unfortunately this is only the first instance of the story being rushed or not well though out

I always forget about that part about needing to be killed with cursed energy. I am still freaked out by the brain thing, threw me for a loop!

Gojo definitely killed Geto at the end of the movie. A sorcerer needs to be killed with cursed energy to be certain they don't turn themselves into a curse after death. Somehow, this brain-person got Geto's body and had itself implanted in place of Geto's brain, taking over the body completely.
