Script Snippet: [Reanimation Scheme] Magic Mentor

Here's a quick excerpt from the first chapter of Jori's route for this month's script snippet. Look at how the two are starting to tentatively get along πŸ‘€

Warning: Slight spoilers ahead!

I sigh, rubbing my temples briefly with my knuckles. Then, with Jori's hopeful gaze burning into me, I give a small nod.

Raenelle: All right. I'll teach you as much as I can β€” but I need to be clear upfront. I have no idea if any of the magic spells would be different for a spirit compared to a human, since there hasn't exactly been another case of reference before, so you'll still have to figure out the rest somehow.

Jori lets out a whoop, pumping his fist into the air in excitement. To my surprise, he throws his arms around me, pulling me into a brief hug, before releasing me to do another little celebratory dance on the spot.

Jori: Yes! Don't worry, that's completely okay with me! I'm sure it can't be that different if some of the spells already work for me. Thanks so much, Rae Rae! You're the best!

Jori: There's no time to waste! Why don't we start right now? Here, this is the spell I've just started learning and have been stuck on since yesterday β€”

Before I know it, there's an open textbook stuffed into my hands, and Jori is nudging me towards the chair that he just pulled out for me beside the bed.

I blink. Well, clearly I wasn't the only one who came prepared for today's "negotiations".

Slowly, I lower my gaze to the pages, skimming over the contents. By now, I've grown used to the surprises that Jori brings me, so all I feel is minimal curiosity at the fact that he's already found his way to a spell of medium complexity.

Raenelle: Right. Uh, why don't you try to cast the spell for me once first? So I can observe and see what the problem is.

Jori: Good idea! Okay, here goes nothing.

He takes a step back, turning to face the wall with his face screwed up in concentration. He soon begins his attempt, and it doesn't take me long to notice where he went wrong.

Raenelle: The middle part β€” your hand gesture is wrong there. Instead of a turn of the wrist, it should be more like this...

I demonstrate for him, and he watches attentively, his eyes wide as saucers as if he's afraid of missing anything at all if he so much as blinks for an instant.

Jori: Okay, I think I get it. Let me try that again!
