With the alpha build of Lyrissa's route coming next month to Patreon, I guess it's only fitting that the script snippet of this month is another excerpt from an early chapter in Lyri's route as a teaser~
Here's a bit of a tense scene that highlights Lyrissa's strained relationship with her mother, which will be an important part of Lyrissa's arc in her route.
--
Lyrissa: Oh well, we can worry about that later. For now, it's your favorite time of the day — food time! Let's go!
Raenelle: Now you're speaking my language.
Lyrissa returns my grin, but just as quickly, it slips into a deep frown. A familiar voice rings out from behind me, and I immediately understand Lyrissa's dampened mood.
Avalyn: Lyrissa.
Lyrissa's shoulders hunch for a moment before she straightens up as tall as she can. Her expression is wary as if braced for a scolding — though judging by her mother's tone, she may not be far off the mark.
Lyrissa: Good afternoon, Mother.
Lyrissa's mother presses her lips together into a thin line as she briefly glances at me, and I try to avoid shrinking back.
Her gaze then returns to her daughter, and she speaks in a voice taut with displeasure.
Avalyn: Lyrissa Yirath, come with me. We need to speak. Now.
Well, that doesn't sound good.
Lyrissa bristles.
Lyrissa: As much as I would love to, Mother, I already have plans for lunch with a friend. It would be "unbecoming" of me to change my mind last minute, would it not?
Emphasizing her point, Lyrissa takes a step closer to me. I open my mouth to back her up, perhaps spinning some story about how I need Lyrissa's support for an urgent matter, but her mother's glare puts an end to the idea immediately.
Zianna, that woman's gaze could freeze armies!
Not dissuaded by Lyrissa's excuse, Avalyn's expression only hardens, and her voice comes out as a commanding bark.
Avalyn: You can catch up with your friend after lunch. What I need to speak with you about is more important.
Avalyn: Now come with me. We can have this conversation in your assigned resting room.
The tension in the air is so thick that I almost have difficulty breathing. My eyes dart between the two of them, unsure what I'm supposed to do.
It's clear that Avalyn doesn't want me here, just as it's clear from Lyrissa's pleading look that Lyrissa doesn't want me to leave her alone.
Lyrissa: Raenelle is one of my best friends. Whatever reprimanding you have ready for me this time can be done here in front of her. I have nothing to hide.
