So, my repetitive 2 cents, Stefan is majorly hypocritical. His initial anger at Damon over Elena semi understandable, but he knew from personal experience what it is like coming out of the Phx stone. He himself almost burned his brother's body (which only Caroline knows, who judges everyone but Stefan) and only stopped because Caroline was there to stop him. While Stefan meant to burn Damon's body, Damon thought he killed Elena by accident trying to burn somebody else's body because no-one was there to stop him. But Stefan being mad and blaming Damon for the sword thing is just another of the hundreds of examples where everyone just blames all the bad shit on Damon not understanding that what he does is to protect someone, in this case, Bonnie. And nobody, including Bonnie, even tries to correct everyone and say "hey, this thing Damon did was my idea, or was done to save me or someone else, not knowing it would immediately effect others negatively." No, they just all let everyone hold him accountable for things that are not his fault and give him no credit for the things he does to protect or help them.

He wasn't threatening the girls he was talking about Caroline who was "about to get hurt" Ric would have staked Damon's ass the second he was a threat to his kids.
