For some reason I never really thought of this as a scary movie (no pun intended). I don't watch a lot of horror, but this one never bothered me. Maybe because like you mentioned, Ghostface was such a bumbling idiot that they always had a chance to fight back. I don't know. But I loved this reaction and I'm glad Scary Movie didn't ruin the whole thing for you.
