I went from a 39hr p/w Corporate job to a 84hr p/w YouTube life!

Just a quick insight into the YouTuber life..

At the height of my Corporate finance career we were clocking up 70+ hrs a week as a Senior auditor covering our European and Indian facilities.  Travel was fun but it got too much so I stepped "down" to a UK office based accountant position.

As the years went on and my finance passion dwindled, I managed to get my hours down closer to 39hr/pw as I valued time more than anything else.  I was making YouTube videos for t...

How I photograph men

Something different today!  I think my inspiration comes from TV and movies I watched until my 30s.  (I don't own a TV now lol).  People find me on online and request photoshoots like this.  It's really rewarding to see the progression during these client shoots and they are always very thankful.

I posted a few of the best shots in our Facebook group*

Learn Together: You wont meet interesting people if you sit in your house all day

Morning all,

Yesterday was a great learning point for me so I thought i'd share it.  (Skip to the break mark if you want to get to the point and don't have time to read it all).

As a blogger/ YouTuber I feel i'm always chatting to people (answering comments, emails etc) yet I might not talk to anyone for a multiple days (except a hello if go to the gym/shop etc).  I tend to try to find models via Instagram (from the comfort of my sofa as they say)(I don't own much furnit...

Don't be a one-trick pony

Morning!  I thought i'd share this to hopefully inspire some of you.

With photography I think it's easy to get stuck in a rut where all photos start to look the same.  Yes it's important to develop a personal style but also I think it's good to get out your comfort zone so to keep learning and improving.  (For me that's trying to edit colour photos!)

First, for quite a while i've been shooting my portraits back lit (without lights and often without mods).  I bo...

Model photography - Bring all your hats!

Afternoon, I thought i'd give you a photo breakdown today so you get to see what is involved when working with models/ people.  It's rarely as simple as just pressing your shutter release.

You will need the minimum of your following virtual hats for model photography:

- Photographer hat (Know your camera gear and what kit best suits the model)

- Clothes stylist hat (Request clothes for your shoot and re-style as needed on set...

Do you value your old images? I just binned a pile of prints..

Morning all, UK time.  I need to move house this year so starting to sort out my piles and piles of ..stuff :)  I had lots of cardboard tubes full of A3 prints from my early photography days.  I looked at it and thought, i'm never going to use these so I binned them all.  Some of them were selling for £50 each some years back when they were featured on the front cover of a popular UK magazine, Ideal Homes.  I used to do macro photography in my early ...

Free eBook.. if you like model photography!

Good morning!

If you follow the blog you may have received this already so apologies for any duplication.  As I teach mostly model photography on Patreon I thought you might find this eBook useful.  (Thanks to some of you that proof read it for me/ gave some feedback).

If you look on the last page there is an additional "Accelerator pack" to try to help those really looking to push forward with their portraits.  Most of the videos in that pack can be found on ...

New! Photowalk Group Workshops

Hi guys, hopefully some exciting new for you!

Some of you may know that i've been teaching photography workshops since 2014 and 98% of those have been on a 1-2-1 basis.

During my last 2 overseas city breaks I've really enjoyed walking around looking for photos as I wasn't booked up with models morning until night.  I thought perhaps this is something I can share/ teach to small groups.  (What I see and what I look for when taking these photographs).   View Post

Poll: Videos and Posts - What do you want?

Hi guys!  I was chatting to some of the regulars on our monthly Zoom calls and i'm aware 90% of my recent Patreon videos shared are models and/ or portrait lighting related.  Someone suggested that I should try to mix it up a bit (which is a great point) so can I ask:

Qu.  For future BTS videos (especially) would you like -

New Blog Post + Updates

Hi guys, here is a link to the latest newsletter if you are interested.  The main reason for writing is actually the following 2 things -

1) Voigtlander saw the comments on my YouTube video about people wanting to see the results of the new Voigtlander 50mm f1.0 vs the 50mm f1.2 ..so they send me the 50mm f1.2! :)  I have everything I need except models lol.  Luckily I have a Poland trip booked so I can test then.

2) Zoom calls for February: 17th Feb for £3 level, ...

New YouTube Video! Black Paint Barnacks! :)

Another one of my new "basics series".  These videos take 75-80% less time to edit and hopefully still get a message across to help / inspire others.  For niche topics like this I think that is the way forward and then I can try to make more videos faster for you guys.
