You’re thinking more of the deep South or Appalachia stereotypes… so like Kentucky, Alabama, West Virginia. and most people i know who do the family trip matching shirts thing do it for safety reasons. it’s easy to know who the kids belong with (or find them if they wander off) if they all match. My niece does it with her girls whenever they go to Disney World.

There are also some schools of thought that say that Holmes' murders weren't motivated by enjoyment or anything like that. He was a conman, an extremely prolific conman. Many of his victims either knew too much or could have/were interfering in his cons. So at best, he had absolutely no morals or qualms about murder, but didn't seek it out.

As far as I'm aware, his preferred victim type boiled down to one thing: female. But he'd kill basically anyone, including children. ALSO, one of the pictures for his victims is actually (pretty sure) one of Jack the Ripper's victims.

Plenty of cornfields for monsters to hide in, though. And the matching shirts is definitely a "family vacation" thing that I have definitely participated in on more than one occasion.
