One of the lines in this episode that sticks with me very powerfully is the exchange between Vander and Silco. "For what? Pride?" "For _respect._" It is easy to think that it is just... petty pride behind it all, but as someone who has suffered in a vacuum of respect for the last several years within my home, I can tell you that respect is... like air. You don't really appreciate it until you are cut off from it. Now, what Silco is doing is monstrous, but I can absolutely tell you that being systematically starved of respect by those who have power over you can and will drive you into desperation.
