Two hours after the wedding, Lena had her hands full both literally and figuratively: she carried her sleeping god daughter and a bag full of books and stuffed toys. Kara was one step behind her, still in an emotional mood, but not the same of earlier. With a reek of sentimentality, Kara exuded new confidence and joy, and all of that would have been attractive if Lena felt like she was able to reciprocate.

They had danced together for hours over the course of the night, and when one of Kelly’s finally colleagues asked if they were seeing each other, Kara laughed in a high-pitched and horrified way that still rang in Lena’s ears. Lena wasn’t in the right mindset to deal with her emotions related to the incident, so she chose to rush ahead of Kara and focus on the duty of caring for Esme.

“Why don’t you let me take her?” Kara asked for a third time, puffing herself up to appear tough even in her simple civilian clothes.

“Oh, absolutely not,” Lena scoffed and hoisted Esme a little higher on her shoulder to swing around and face Kara. “This is probably the closest I’m going to get to having a pup of my own and I want to experience it to the fullest.”

For the entire duration of Alex and Kelly’s honeymoon, they volunteered to care for Esme, and that meant staying in the couple’s apartment together. That might not have been the optimal plan, given that Lena could hardly stand to look at her best friend.

“Hey, don’t say that,” Kara sighed and shook her head as she took the lead and opened the door. “I’m sure that someday you’ll have a dozen pups of your own.”

“I would need an alpha for that,” Lena glared and fought the urge to glance down at the relaxed sweats Kara had changed into after the wedding.

If she licked her lips a little bit, Lena doubted Kara was the wiser, and if she slanted her eyebrow in flirtation, that was all par for the course. They had been together for practically the entire wedding ceremony, holding hands like platonic best friends, and Lena was sick of it.

Kara walked backwards with her hands spread out, too distracted to realize she was about to trip over a dollhouse. It might have been a tad retaliatory to let her Kara stumble, but Lena pursed her lips in an awkward smile and waited.

Being passive seemed to be her strong suit — not just in love, but also in aggression, and she was feeling both towards Kara Danvers.

“So, about that alpha,” Kara laughed and smiled so hard she squinted.

“Kara, watch your feet,” Lena warned, her heart and softness winning out over her temporary hurt.

“Oh, thanks, I should have seen that.” Kara moved her niece’s dollhouse aside at the last second, and Lena carried Esme off into her new room without a second glance backward.

“There are a lot of things you should have seen,” Lena muttered.

She sensed Kara following her and took her time tucking Esme into bed with her favored stuffed animal. Whatever they had been about to discuss was lost to Lena’s fussing with the covers.

Esme turned onto her side and snuggled under the blankets in peace and contentment, and Lena slipped into a reverie of calm just from watching the little one sleep.

“My niece is so precious, isn’t she?” Kara gushed and rested her hand on Lena’s shoulder as she smiled down at her dreaming niece.

The touch was innocent, and Lena couldn’t hide how she pouted at the light placement of Kara’s fingers. She fixated on them for too long before flicking her attention away to where Esme clung a little tighter to her stuffed animal.

“She’s a perfect addition to the Danvers family.” Lena paused as she thought back to how she joked with Alex about the couple adopting her into the family, too. Dismally, she wondered if that was the only way it would ever be possible for her to acquire the Danvers’ last name. She flipped on a night light shaped like the planet Mars and exited the room before she woke Esme with her hopeless, pining pheromones.

“You’re really great with kids,” Kara whispered and stepped after her like she mistook Lena’s scents for a wistful longing for a child. “I never knew you were such a natural. I assumed, but seeing you with Esme is a whole different level of awesome — “

“Maybe I’ll have one of my own — you know, with a donor,” Lena interjected just to see Kara’s genuine reaction, and whether that idea would inspire any new emotions in her best friend.

Kara looked bothered, judging by the crinkle that formed between her eyebrows. She didn’t speak, and Lena interpreted that as a reason to continue with her casual badgering her.

“I always thought I wanted to be a cool aunt, but I would also be the coolest mom,” Lena bragged and sank down on the sofa with a deliberate mind to taunt Kara with her exposed neck. She chose her outfit on the sole basis of its cleavage and she sensed a nip-slip happening before she could control it.

“Any time I attend a wedding, I try to reflect on my own future plans,” Lena whispered as she skimmed her open neckline with her fingertips.

Kara flushed the color of beetroot and sat down right beside her. They breathed each other in, and Kara spent an inordinate amount of time being respectful and staring down at Lena’s lips without glancing any lower.

“Hey, speaking of future plans, I thought about what you said earlier,” Kara murmured. “I agree, it’s time for me to come out of the closet so I can start living my best life.”

Kara leaned in like she might punctuate her announcement with a kiss, but just as their mouths could have met, she brought her phone in between them to call Cat Grant.

Lena reached for a handful of M&Ms on the coffee table and shoved them in her mouth to stop herself from looking stupid with her tongue practically out. She crunched into the candy shells and listened while Kara set up an interview.

“This is going to change everything for the better,” Kara gushed with enthusiasm and patted Lena’s knee as she returned to her seat with a folio of take-out menus.

Lena wasn’t convinced that Kara was right, or that her best friend had even understood the essence of her speech earlier — but for the first time since getting back from the Phantom Zone, Kara seemed full of hope and she wasn’t about to diminish it.

Rather than caution Kara to be more realistic, Lena tucked herself into her best friend’s side and basked in their closeness. She could forget her pragmatic advice while she was cuddled up to Kara, and she spent the rest of that night feeling just as content as she would have been if they had actually kissed.

Six whole months later, Lena had a much different perspective on the whole situation.

With every passing day since Kara’s interview, her life changed — not for the worse, as everyone had catastrophized.

Kara became an overnight celebrity whose personal details appeared in CatCo magazine, including her preferred coffee and favorite color. Fan girls flocked outside the media center for hours each day, begging for autographs and hoping to get pictures with Supergirl in her newest suit.

Lena figured that the constant attention would get tiresome, but fame looked good on Kara, and she thrived on her new relationship with the public. But there were times when Lena felt the strangest resentment towards the omegas that took up Kara’s time with their happy babbling and over the top flirtations, especially when she considered how it cut into their own plans.

Kara didn’t allow it to happen very often, and five minutes in the scheme of things wasn’t going to detract from whatever they had scheduled, but Lena still hated the knowledge that on some nights while her best friend was out there laughing with other omegas and posing for pictures, she was at home resisting the urge to pour herself wine.

They weren’t a couple, not in the traditional sense, but the tension between them was always palpable. Lena was sure she could feel it whenever she wore a low-cut top or ass hugging skirt that drew all of Kara’s attention to her voluptuous figure. She flaunted herself quite brazenly most days, and she had basically taken up residence in Kara’s apartment because neither of them enjoyed being separated for more than a night.

Alex said their friendship was getting weird, and not because they cared about one another, but because the chemistry they created was reaching a romantic tipping point and she couldn’t understand why Kara didn’t realize it.

Lena was too proud to acknowledge Alex’s quips, and often walked off with nothing more than a shrug of noncommitment whenever she brought it up.

What Lena couldn’t walk away from, however, was Esme’s innocent observations, and that the four-year-old evidently picked up on Lena’s agitation over the past months.

Lena and Kara had taken it upon themselves to babysit their niece every Friday or Saturday so that her moms could have a date night, and whenever Lena huffed and checked her watch, Esme decided to mimic her actions.

“She’s late,” Esme dramatically stated to her stuffed bear that sat beside her at the table, and then peered up at Lena with big sad eyes, and asked the one question Lena didn’t know how to answer. “How come Auntie Kara won’t say she loves you? She tells me all the time.”

“Sometimes good friends don’t say that out loud. We say it differently, with gestures.” Lena could hardly fool herself, let alone her god daughter, who scrunched her face up in confusion.

“Like how you buy us food and take us to the zoo?” Esme demanded with a serious furrow of her brows.

“Yes, like that,” Lena lilted and wiped the table down for no reason other than to avoid the child’s piercing gaze.

“Because we’re special and you love us,” Esme pressed, puzzling over the new information like she couldn’t quite grasp the intricacies of falling in love with your best friend who seemed remarkably oblivious, at least eighty percent of the time.

Exactly,” Lena laughed, if only to hold her own internal panic at bay as she slid a slice of cake over to Esme to bribe her into letting it go. “Why don’t we start with dessert first tonight, hm?”

“Ooh, I’ll never say no to that!” Kara exclaimed, landing in the kitchen at a speed that blew Lena’s hair into her face. She stopped with a slight skid, righting herself with a casual hand on Lena’s hip as she glanced over her shoulder to the fancy and delicious food that was spread out for her. “Rao, Lena, this looks amazing. I couldn’t wait to come home to you two.”

“You’re late,” Esme accused with a disgruntled scrunch of her brows and possibly the most hateful look Lena had ever seen on a child’s face. “Where have you been?”

Kara cradled a gingerbread making kit under one arm and placatingly held it out to Esme. “I wanted to pick up a fun activity for us to do tonight, but then a couple of people asked me for autographs for their kids. Since it’s almost Christmas, I had to say yes.”

Lena noticed a lip print on Kara’s cheek where some random stranger must have kissed her, and her facial expression must have matched Esme’s, because Kara reached for her next.

“I’m sorry, I truly am, but we’re going to have such a great night together to make up for my lateness.” Kara placed her gingerbread kit to the side and pulled out a chair for Lena.

Esme crossed her arms like she was thinking about refusing her aunt forgiveness. It took Lena glancing in her direction to calm her down, but the four-year-old continued to glower at Kara during the meal.

“Do you think it’ll always be like this, with all of your fans just fawning over you?” Lena didn’t mean to sound so sullen over it and attempted to remedy that by serving Kara a plate of tiny pastries.

“The excitement should wear off after a while.” Kara groaned as she stuffed a cream puff into her mouth and turned to offer one to Esme. “I hate when it messes up our plans, but I’ve never felt more like myself. I feel like I can finally be more open with the people I love.”

Esme seemed to be considering Kara’s words very carefully and she piped up with her own opinions. “My mom says you’re so clever that you’re stupid.  She also says you’ll probably be alone for a long time because you don’t understand social cues, whatever that means. I think you should just say sorry and do better next time. Otherwise, you’re going to hurt Lena’s feelings, and you don’t want to do that, since she’s a person you love.”

Lena choked on a bite of cake and placed a hand over Esme’s to prevent her from giving more critical advice.

“Esme, did I ever tell you remind me of my late mother in the best ways?” Lena smiled and squeezed the child’s hand, changing the topic by glancing back to Kara. “I know you didn’t mean to be late, so don’t worry about it. I’m just happy you’re here now and that we get to spend the night together. I also need both of you to give me advice about the food, since it’s my turn to host our family Christmas party, and I’m planning to take everyone out this year.”

Kara looked properly chastised and was still floundering with her apology when Lena reached out to calm her.

Christmas was only a week away, and while everyone else had exceptionally wonderful skills of crafting remarkable dinners, Lena wasn’t one of them. Fortunately, she had an abundance of money to rely on instead, and she fully planned to put that to good use to give her family the kind of Christmas they truly deserved.

“What were you thinking?” Kara asked with a slight arch of her brows that couldn’t hide her excitement.

“Oh, you know me, and if it isn’t extravagant, then what’s the point?” Lena teased, only half serious as she basked in Kara’s full attention.

There were few things that brought Kara more joy than family and sunshine, and food was at the top of the list. Lena might not be able to say certain things, but she could show it by plying Kara with the kind of expensive and fancy luxuries that even a national hero couldn’t afford. It was in a sense their own kind of foreplay, and Lena absently dropped her gaze to Kara’s lips as they parted, her quicker little exhalations bringing heat to Lena’s face.

“How extravagant are we talking? Is it going to be like that gastronomy place that served me a pea sized amount of foam and a cube of steak only a quarter of an inch big, or are there, like real Kryptonian sized portions here?” Kara asked, practically already salivating at the thought of a catered meal where nobody would have to run around the kitchen like their ass was on fire.

“Trust you to ask the important questions,” Lena lilted, and slid another pastry Kara’s way just to see how delighted her best friend was from stuffing it into her mouth.

“Well, if I’m drinking, I don’t want to be flying, and we both know I’d need to order like, five more meals if this is all tiny fancy stuff,” Kara laughed, her mirth lightening the mood and ridding Lena’s shoulders of tension.

“There will be plenty for you to feast on, and dare I say enough to bring home afterwards,” Lena supplied, and held her wine glass out for Kara to fill before finally lifting a delicate flaky disc topped with chocolate mousse.

“This is why I–” Kara paused, her mouth closing as Lena glanced up at her sharply in expectation. “Think you’re the best.

Esme groaned dramatically and slapped her head with both of her hands. She took her slice of cake and left the table to sit in the living room with a small group of stuffed animal friends.

Lena contemplated opening up to Kara, but she felt like the Kryptonian had just punched her in the stomach with her super strong fist.

She blamed that night for the wardrobe she selected for Christmas — the fur lined coat that screamed billionaire and a dress underneath that looked like it belonged in the bedroom.

Kelly’s eyes popped open when she saw her in the restaurant, and Lena glanced down at her barely-there dress that was festively red and low over her breasts.

“Looks like someone forgot to wrap these presents for Kara,” Kelly laughed at her own joke and gestured for her wife to join in on the fun.

“If she even realizes this is a gift for her,” Alex emphasized and ushered Esme off before she could participate in a conversation too adult for her ears.

“Kara might have x-ray vision, but she’s blind if she doesn’t see what’s going on here tonight,” Nia commented with a low whistle and an approving up and down glance.

Brainy pulled back a chair for Nia with an expression on his face that said he was uncomfortable with the discussion about Lena, but he did spare her a soft look that conveyed hang in there.

Esme placed three of her favorite toys next to her plates and climbed into her booster seat with J’onn’s help.

As usual, Kara was the last to arrive and flew into the establishment to the cheers of the other patrons enjoying their Christmas meals.

The restaurant was perhaps the most high-end place Lena had ever taken Kara, and it was impeccably decorated for the season with classy lights, and fun little interactive centerpieces for everyone to enjoy.

Esme seemed pleased with the miniature toy train that choo-chooed around a small Christmas tree, pulling baskets of freshly baked bread and Christmas cookies.

Lena would never disclose the small fortune she paid to book the table, or to set a private menu only for them. She hoped to impress with two large turkeys, a roasted duck, a goose with trimmings, spiced ham, and wagyu beef tomahawk steaks that would look hilariously like something out of The Flintstones when Kara picked it up to devour it off the bone.

Lena wasn’t exactly proud of how her own omega had been gradually conditioned over the years into finding it sexual whenever Kara ate large amounts in front of her while demonstrating her strength.

She reasoned it was some latent lizard brain phenomenon that drew correlations between the thoughts of Big strong alpha with Fucks like an animal, and she didn’t see her reaction to Kara’s appetite changing any time soon. Given it was Christmas, she considered it a gift to herself, and planned to enjoy the show.

“Sorry I’m late. I couldn’t decide what to wear and someone wouldn’t help me by answering her texts,” Kara disclosed as she strutted into a seat across from Lena in a very handsome suit that looked tailored to fit her perfectly. The dark navy brought out the color of her eyes and Lena pretended that she hadn’t just seen the defined outline of the alpha’s cock before she sat down.

“Hey, my hands were full with helping my kid pick out her stuffed guests, and you’re old enough to know what colors work best for you,” Alex sassed and glanced in Lena’s direction as Kara’s face lit up at the sight of her.

“Wow, everyone looks so good tonight.” Kara’s compliment was accurate, though her eyes hadn’t strayed from Lena’s cleavage, and for all she knew, Alex could have been wearing a Pikachu onesie. She made little effort to look anywhere else and Lena casually slipped the fur lined coat off her shoulders with sensual flare to make sure it stayed that way.

Alex cleared her throat as Kara exhaled an airy growl that suddenly transpired into laughter as she caught herself. “Gosh, Lena, you’ve really outdone yourself. This is the fanciest Christmas any of us has ever had.”

“And not a single dish will need to be cleaned,” Lena announced, just to see the relief on Kelly’s face as she reached for a glass of wine.

“That in and of itself is the best gift you could have given me. Don’t get me wrong, I love the holidays, but I hate the clean up.” Kelly’s smile was filled with gratitude, and the quiet rumblings of everyone agreeing evoked a smile from Lena.

“You’re all acting like I don’t take care of the mess afterwards in like, two minutes,” Kara complained with an adorable huff that started off laughter.

“Are you forgetting last year when you drank that alien wine and decided to juggle the glasses before putting them away?” Brainy asked with a concerned tone that alluded to his worry that Kara’s mind wasn’t functioning at optimal levels.

“It was free entertainment!” Kara insisted in exasperation, her ears tinging pink as the memory of the night came back to her.

“Yeah, until you forgot your strength and started shattering them by throwing them into the cupboards,” Alex uttered around the rim of her wine glass with a judgmental squint in her sister’s direction.

Kara scrunched her face up in embarrassment and whined, “I was just trying to–”

Show off?” Esme asked with all the innocence of a child who didn’t understand how correct
she could be.

No,” Kara insisted, far too high pitched to be anything other than a lie as she suddenly looked everywhere else except in Lena’s direction. “No, I was just trying to have fun. So, when is the first course arriving?”

The change of topic settled everyone down and Kara turned her head in expectation when only one waiter wandered over with a cardboard box. Lena squinted at it in offense, and the waiter looked just as perturbed as he brought it to Kara with a disgusted hush, “My apologies, but this arrived for Supergirl, courtesy of a fan.”

The fan looked like a twenty-something socialite out with friends to celebrate, and she waved and cooed from her table as Kara popped the box open to find pot stickers inside it.

“Oooh, thank you!” Kara called out, completely ignoring traditional restaurant etiquette. She was poised to stuff one into her mouth when J’onn swiped the container away like an unimpressed father and grunted, “Kara, don’t spoil your appetite. Lena picked our menu specifically for tonight.”

“Right, no, yeah, I don’t even want them,” Kara uttered dejectedly, the light in her eyes dimming as J’onn passed the container back to the waiter, who looked relieved that Supergirl wasn’t about to eat cheap take-out in their Michelin star restaurant.

Lena was willing to let that one incident slide, given how fast Kara’s focus shifted onto the appetizers the waiter brought over. The dainty pastry, colorful vegetables and luxury seafood was all arranged in an artistic presentation.

Everyone sampled the selections with content sighs and compliments, and Kara was the most vocal in announcing her favorites.

“I have no idea what this green stuff is, but I could eat it every day,” Kara gushed and scooped up another bite on her fork.

“Sashimi marinated with chili peppers, basil and grilled vegetable vinaigrette,” The waiter informed her in delight and brought over other plates for Kara to try.

For Esme, the chef prepared a more kid-friendly menu with fancy small burgers made with the finest beef, gourmet fries and a selection of pizzas. The first course was a quiet one, apart from the din of their forks and Kara making a toast.

“To Lena –  for being the most supportive friend this year and for the incredible five-course meal I know we’re all going to enjoy.” Kara raised her glass high in the air, brimming with a strong alien beverage. She took a large gulp without noticing Lena’s deflated posture, or the way the others glanced at each other.

It might have been Kara’s toast that brought about the hush and the silent scraping of plates, but Nia finished eating and attempted to free them from that awkwardness. “Hey Esme, what was on your Christmas list for Santa?”

Esme pulled a neatly folded list from her tiny purse, oblivious to how Kelly hissed at Alex, “You were supposed to mail that yesterday.”

With her eyes on the page, it was hard to tell if Esme read out loud or recited from memory. “Art supplies, a locket with a picture of my family, a brontosaurus, a Frozen ice castle, a new coffee maker for my moms, and a buttered muffin for my Auntie Lena.”

Lena nearly spat her champagne across the restaurant as she remembered with horror that she had uttered the phrase buttered muffin out loud in Esme’s general vicinity. She had been on the phone with Sam at the time discussing what she wanted Kara to get her for Christmas. In the background, Esme had been watching a Christmas movie and eating popcorn.

“She’s talking about my favorite banana muffins from the bakery near Kara’s place,” Lena insisted and inconspicuously wiped the Dom Perignon from her chin. “They also have delicious scones.”

Kelly’s brows arched toward her hairline and Nia leaned suavely on the table to get in Lena’s personal space as she murmured, “Banana, you say?”

If Lena could have conceivably used the portal watch to get out of the rest of dinner without causing a media frenzy, she would have gladly done it. Instead, she resigned herself to the knowing looks of her friends and the puzzled expression on Kara’s face.

“You know, I go there almost every week to pick you up lunch, and I’ve never seen those on the menu—”

“Oh, they’re a specialty item, they sell out fast,” Lena muttered, actively fighting to keep her eyes on Kara’s face, lest she detect her deceit.

“On account of them being cream filled,” Nia blurted, laughing at her own joke even harder as Alex raised her glass to Lena’s obvious gay panic and uttered, “Yeah. Merry Crisis.”

Lena prayed that J’onn wouldn’t read her mind right then and tried not to shrink under Kara’s heavy stare that finally lowered to her tits when she pushed them out in distraction.

“Speaking of things covered in cream, why is Cool Whip considered an edible substance when none of the ingredients are really suggested for consumption?” Brainy’s serious question drew the heat out of Nia’s remarks, mostly because Kara took the question as a slight against her personally.

Their heated debate lasted through the second course, and by the time the main course rolled out, everyone was divided on how they classified Cool Whip. Half of them considered it a beloved alternative to real cream, and the other half an unholy abomination that shouldn’t exist. Lena caused controversy when she said she would rather starve to death than let it pass her lips.

Plates filled with carved meats began arriving while envious onlookers stared at their table, and Lena preened while Kara’s eyes grew wide with glee.

Their night seemed to be going as she planned until a waiter arrived with a drink for Kara that she hadn’t ordered.

“Compliments of the lady over there,” The waiter murmured, setting the drink down just as two more arrived for Kara, along with a bunch of flowers and a box of chocolates.

Lena scoffed at the audacity of the omegas who would interrupt a family dinner and countered their flirtations by baring her neck. She also drew Kara’s attention back to her with subtle amorous scents that nobody else at the table would detect. One of the many benefits of Kara being Kryptonian was her ability to sense the subtlest change in Lena’s pheromones. That meant simply parting her thighs beneath the table was enough for her friend to pick up the notes of her arousal, even if she didn’t say anything about it.

“Anyone want to accompany me to touch up my make-up?” Lena whispered and trained her eyes on Kara in expectation.

It took the alpha a minute to realize her company was wanted, and by then Lena had already stood up. Kara scraped her chair on the floor, and from a rare miscalculation of her own strength, she bumped into a waiter who was carrying trays of food.

Oh fudge, fudge, fiddlesticks,” Kara cursed in ridiculous euphemisms and apologized to the waiter in a panic. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to do that. I’ll pay for it.”

“No need to worry, Supergirl,” the waiter reassured her and spoke to her feet as he rushed to clean up the mess. “We’re just so happy that you are visiting our restaurant tonight.”

Kara performed the clean-up for him before a protest could pass his lips, and Lena appreciated that gesture just as much as she admired Kara for any act of heroism or kindness. Unfortunately, other omegas in the restaurant also witnessed Kara’s deeds and followed her on the way to the bathrooms.

One of the young omegas even extended her hand to introduce herself. “Supergirl, wow, it’s so crazy to meet you like this. I’ve always hoped to run into you one day. You’re my biggest inspiration, especially since you came out and told the world your true identity.”

“Oh, that was nothing – it just seemed like it was time for me personally to make that choice.” Kara waved away the omega’s compliments, even though the omega kept them coming.

“Your strength is truly remarkable,” the omega sighed and clasped her hands together.

Lena didn’t speak as the omega hugged Kara, or when she offered up her business card. They waited until the small crowd of omegas dispersed to enter the bathroom.

Once the door shut behind them and Lena stepped up to a mirror to fix her lipstick, she saw a perplexed frown on Kara’s face.

“Lena, I’m pretty sure that omega was flirting with me,” Kara muttered and glanced behind her at the door. “She told me I inspire her and then she hugged me, and look, she wrote her name with a heart and gave me her personal number in addition to her business card—"

It took a remarkable amount of poise not to let the anger manifest in Lena’s application of lipstick. How she didn’t end up with a jagged looking clown mouth was beyond her, but she did draw back with a scathing look at Kara in the mirror as she tried to work out how a being so highly intelligent was so ridiculously dense.

“It’s taken you six months to realize that every omega in this city has been throwing themselves at you every chance they get?” Lena dryly remarked and turned to stare at Kara with an incredulously arched brow that brought a powdery blush to the alpha’s cheeks.

“Well, I mean, I just thought they were being friendly,” Kara meekly stated, her eyes somewhere below her navel as she stuffed her hands into her pants pockets.

Friendly?” Lena repeated with enough venom to shock even herself, let alone Kara who blinked owlishly at her with a slack jaw. “You think when an omega dresses to the nines and flaunts herself in your vicinity, then gets you everything you could possibly want, that she’s being friendly?”

Kara floundered at the line of questioning, especially when Lena stalked toward her with a haughty lift of her chin. “I–sure– some people are just kind.”

Kind doesn’t involve going out of their way to touch you,” Lena lectured, making it a point to mimic the way the omega had grabbed onto Kara’s bicep, but her own touch was far more self-assured and sensual as she trailed her fingers upward to catch Kara by the chin.

“Kind doesn’t make you breathe in their unique and intimate scent,” Lena intoned, knowing that Kara had certainly been breathing in hers not two minutes earlier.

She sighed so close to Kara’s lips that even her omega thought they might kiss, and then her eyes zeroed in on something she was so sick of seeing that everything turned as red as her lipstick, and then she turned Kara’s face to the mirror and hissed, “Or leave lipstick prints on your cheek so that you wear them all the way home.

The sudden abrupt way Kara fell forward into the sinks would have been funny if Lena wasn’t so furious that she loved someone so incapable of realizing it. Kara’s tie got soaked in the spray of automatic water and she straightened up as if she had forgotten she possessed superhuman powers.

“Did I — Lena, have I done something to upset you?” Kara asked in confusion, her wide eyes imploring Lena to talk to her.

“No, Kara, you haven’t done anything,” Lena sighed, and therein was the problem.

Lena sauntered out of the bathroom, fully planning to order herself the biggest bottle of single malt Scotch the restaurant owned to drink in one sitting.

She just barely reeled in the impulse as she got back to her seat and saw the curiosity on everyone’s faces that seemed, of all things, hopeful. She slumped in her chair, signalling that yet again Kara hadn’t made a move, and everyone, including Esme, sagged in their support.

Despite her disappointment over how the night was going, Lena experienced an immense feeling of gratitude that furled around her like a blanket when she witnessed her family enjoying their Christmas dinner. She told herself that it didn’t matter if she and Kara never decided to explore their relationship romantically, because she belonged with that special group of people.

With the softest gleam in her eyes, she accepted a small gift that Esme raced around the table to give her – a picture of everyone at the wedding tucked inside a hand-painted ornament. She was so happy that she didn’t register that Kara was missing from the table, or the dead silence that came over the restaurant as Kara reappeared with a huge bundle of colorful roses and started giving them out to fans who had given her things.

Lena stared at her kind and considerate best friend, and all of the women who admired her as they lit up in response to Kara’s benevolence. She expected to feel deep jealousy, but when she saw Kara smiling and spreading goodwill, she simply embraced happiness.

Kara marched over to their table after she finished giving out the flowers, and Lena noted the extras that she knew her best friend reserved for the ladies in her life.

Lena glanced up as Kara stopped next to her chair and then panicked as her friend bent down beside her.

“Lena, I’ve been wanting to ask you something, but I was too afraid. The whole reason I wanted to come out as Supergirl in the first place was because I thought it would allow me to truly be myself, fully – and that it would make all of my other fears seem trivial.” Kara met her eyes and pursed her lips together, getting them ready for words she had held back for a long time. “We’ve been best friends for so long, and I should have been brave enough to tell you that I have feelings for you, but I was still figuring out my life and just trying to be worthy of you—”

“Worthy of me?” Lena laughed and cried at the idiocy of that and grabbed Kara to pull her up from the floor, where she was still hunched and clutching a large jewelry box. Too large to be a ring, but still a startling sight when Lena hadn’t been expecting a romantic present.

“Every day you live your life with this brave kind of defiance I was hoping to replicate, but I couldn’t do that, Lena,” Kara blurted, her nervous energy causing her to project her voice so that the people at the surrounding tables were now all blatantly staring to see what was unfolding.

Lena tried to ignore them as she frowned in confusion and it didn’t help that Kara began to pace beside her, posing with her hands on her hips. Given that Lena was still seated, her gaze was practically at Kara’s crotch level, and it was difficult to concentrate when the shape of her cock was noticeable.

After a huff of breath, Kara stopped to drop back onto her knee and reached for Lena’s hand as she confided, “Coming out as Supergirl isn’t the same as falling in love, and the last time I confessed something to you, that really didn’t go well and I needed this to be perfect.”

The entire restaurant collectively held its breath and Alex dropped her fork as she shot a wide-eyed glance to Kelly. Nia was half on Brainy’s lap in excitement to see the box in Kara’s hands and J’onn looked like a proud father who gave Kara a curt nod when she looked at everyone’s stunned expressions.

“Lena, I don’t want you finding a donor for pups, I want to be your alpha, in life and in love,” Kara declared, her anxious puff of breath sending petals fluttering off the bouquet of roses. They scattered around the table, falling delicately as she pulled open the box to reveal a beautiful bracelet inside that had Kryptonian etchings along the metal. She looked proud as she offered it to Lena, her hopeful face unable to disguise the tremble of her chin as she waited for an answer.

It took Lena a moment to realize that everyone was waiting on her to react, but she was so stunned that her mouth flapped and her tongue glued itself to the roof of her mouth. “Are you–-Kara — are you proposing to me before we’ve even gone on a date?”

It sounded insane even to her own ears and yet her heart was beating faster than the drummer of a heavy metal band. Kara didn’t seem to take offense to how she balked at the notion, and instead smiled up at her so softly that Lena felt vulnerable just from witnessing it.

“That’s the thing,” Kara uttered, her anxiety dissipating as her alpha stepped up to restore her confidence. “We’ve gone on hundreds, we’re basically on one right now. We just never talked about it.”

“Well,  don’t you think we should?” Lena hissed, half paranoid that this was some kind of stupid Christmas prank and that at any moment Kara might declare them official platonic friends for all eternity.

“This is–”

Certifiable
, Lena thought, though her cynicism lost when it came up against her foolishly hopeful heart. She pressed her lips together as the crowded restaurant remained silent in their expectations, and focused for once only on herself as she admitted, “This is very romantic, but we’ve never even kissed–”

“Does that really matter if you want to be with me?” Kara pressed, undeterred by the facts like they were trivial little things that shouldn’t be used as a basis for anything. She remained on her knees, her blue eyes bright as a summer's day and just as filled with promises.

“I–” Lena choked, her omega pleading with her not to ruin the one thing she wanted more than anything in the world.

The logical side of her brain betrayed her by listing off all the ways in which they were already compatible, and since she longed only to be with Kara, what difference did it make if she jumped right in instead of walking?

“I suppose it doesn’t,” Lena managed to croak out, her vision blurry as it began to dawn on her that this was reallyhappening.

Kara puffed herself up, literally, and hovered several inches off the ground to get eye level with Lena as she expressed, “You’re the one person in the whole galaxy that I wake up thinking about every day. The only one I want to share every evening with, and maybe I could have gone about this in a better and less public way, but I don’t want to hide how you make me feel, Lena. I want to celebrate it and make a grand gesture just like you always do for me. I can’t buy you a company like CatCo or fill your home with exotic flowers, but I can take you to see a sunset anywhere in the world and let you stand among the stars if you’ll let me.”

“Kara–”

“I love you,” Kara hurried to say, like it wasn’t obvious at this point. “I’ve loved you for so long, Lena, I–”

Kara, I’m trying to say yes,” Lena spat, her own hysteria at saying it out loud sending tears down her cheeks. She held her wrist up with a pointed glance to the bracelet and waited for Kara to catch up that her proposal was a success.

“You’re—yes? You said yes,” Kara repeated, wild in the eyes as she stood up to yell across the restaurant in case someone had missed it. “She said yes!

“Well don’t just stand there, Romeo, put the bracelet on her and get out of here,” Nia half laughed as she wiped at her eyes.

It was only then that Lena realized their entire group had their phones out to record them. None of this could have been planned, that much she was sure of, but it filled her heart with joy to know how much they all approved.

Kara didn’t hesitate to clasp the bracelet on Lena’s wrist, and then she held her arms open for Lena and flew them out of the restaurant without a single goodbye uttered.

Lena wasn’t sure where they were going, and it didn’t matter that it ended up being her penthouse when Kara set her down in her bedroom and husked, “So about that kiss.”

To say that she melted into the alpha when Kara clasped her at the back of the neck to draw her in for the first brush of their lips was an understatement. If the alpha hadn’t kept an arm secure about her waist, Lena was sure she would have fallen even more than she had already. She whimpered, parting her lips for the eager tip of Kara’s tongue, and moaned as the alpha flirted with deepening the kiss.

Lena looped her arms over the back of Kara’s shoulders, grateful for the heels that allowed her to kiss her future mate without standing on tiptoe. Her cunt was wet just from the tantalizing pucker of Kara’s lips on hers, and the soft caress of Kara’s tongue in her mouth. Part of her was curious if they would sleep together, or if that would come much later in keeping with their bizarre track record.

She breathed heavier as they separated, and then she glanced down at her bracelet and all that it symbolized – her long-suffering wait.

That Christmas eve, if she didn’t act on her own desires, she knew that there would be no sugar plums dancing in her head – just fears of continued celibacy.

“Kara, I’m going to get changed,” Lena uttered and looked into the alpha’s eyes to imply much more than what she said aloud. “Why don’t you put some music on and get comfortable?”

Lena walked away to the bedroom before Kara could respond to her rhetorical question and slipped off her clothes. Underneath she wore a white lingerie with a string panty and soft push-up cups. She felt a little shy when she thought of Kara seeing her like that, which was confusing and unexpected because she had wanted nothing more than to get naked with Kara.

Perhaps predictably, Kara chose some soft music without words, not the kind with a beat that would help Lena with what she was about to do. She took a deep breath to find confidence and strutted back out to the living room to shake her hips and sit in Kara’s lap. Through the blue suit pants, Lena experienced the obscene and obvious jut of Kara’s cock. It must have hardened instantaneously at the sight of her.

“Lena—oh gosh—what did I do to deserve this?” Kara asked, as taken aback as someone who longed for a specific present but truly didn’t believe she would ever receive it.

Lena laughed, high-pitched and excited as she leaned over to kiss at Kara’s neck. “Proposed, which I still can’t believe, by the way. Do you really want to spend the rest of your life with me?”

She gripped at Kara’s tie, giving it a firm tug before un-knotting it. Kara sat up straighter and put her hands on Lena’s hips while looking her up and down.

“I want to share this lifetime with you and so many more,” Kara earnestly replied, blushing as she glanced down at Lena’s breasts. “And these. I don’t know if you noticed how often I stare—”

“Oh, I definitely noticed,” Lena affirmed and put her finger on Kara’s chin to pull her back into a kiss. “I actually thought you had reservations about dating me, because you never told me how you felt. That was why I didn’t act on my own feelings.”

She was certainly going to act on them now, and punctuated her statement with a sensual roll of her hips that rubbed her cunt directly over Kara’s erection.

The sexual grind must have been distracting, because Kara’s lips parted and no words came out. Lena preened at her ability to make the alpha speechless and gasped when Kara’s hands sank lower to grab at her ass, encouraging her movements with more precision.

“This whole time I wasn’t sure if you’d even want me, so I was trying to be a good friend and wait for a signal,” Kara laughed, no doubt finally understanding how silly she had been for not saying something sooner. “Then tonight in the bathroom I realized you’d been giving me the go-ahead for months—”

Years,” Lena corrected, not nearly as saddened by that fact now that she cradled Kara’s length between her thighs. She rubbed over it more intently, enjoying the glassy eyed way Kara stared back at her like she had never felt a pleasure so wonderful.

“I have so much time to make up for,” Kara whispered remorsefully, the weight of their mutual longing suddenly apparent to the alpha. She shifted as though ready to stand up and groaned when Lena bore down on her harder and held her in place by the jaw.

“I’ve waited a long time for this, Kara, so now it’s your turn to wait a while longer,” Lena murmured seductively and pressed her breasts into the alpha’s face to change the music to something a little more appropriate for what she wanted. The slow beat helped her hips find a natural rhythm and she knew Kara appreciated it from the growl that vibrated through her chest.

“Whatever you say,” Kara intoned with a nod, not at all sarcastic as she followed Lena’s orders and tried to sit still. She lasted ten seconds before she angled her hips up so that her erection received the most attention and eagerly stuck her face into Lena’s breasts to kiss over the voluptuous swell.

Kara’s mouth strayed from the cups of her lingerie to the crook of her throat and back.

Lena whined at the attention Kara delivered to her claim spot and the place where her nipples pebbled against lace. Her hips faltered once, but she was fast to remedy that by rubbing harder against Kara. On her downward rocks, the head of Kara’s erection almost pushed into her cunt in defiance of the fabric between them. Silken arousal covered the front of Kara’s pants, and soon they were so soaked that Lena could feel the cock underneath them.

“This is just what I wanted for Christmas, to have you inside me,” Lena breathed, so turned on by the sensations that her thighs began to shake already. “Since we do everything backwards in our relationship anyway, what if you put a baby in me tonight?”

She meant it as a joke, but it stoked an immediate reaction from Kara, from all of the groans and an unmistakable and explosive jerking of her cock. Lena had no idea that Kara was that sensitive, but she was learning what the alpha liked to hear.

“Show me you want that,” Kara begged, somewhat hunched and breathless from orgasm in spite her infinite strength.

As much as Lena wanted to prolong her strip tease dance, she could see the seriousness in Kara’s eyes and dealt with it by standing up. With her thumbs sliding down her thong, she watched Kara’s face transform in wonder and lust. Her pale cunt was rubbed red between the lips and wetter than ever.

She opened Kara’s pants next and shimmied the alpha’s underwear down over her legs, careful not to glance up at the cock between them. If she did that, she would get distracted and want to taste it. Only when she straddled Kara did she dare to peer down at the sturdy erection, and she was stunned by the width of the glans. It pushed her pussy lips so far apart, and Lena sank down onto the fresh spurts of Kara’s seed.

“Does this prove I want you to come inside me?” Lena asked innocently, and her question made Kara even more stiff and imposing inside her entrance.

The hard tip simply wouldn’t enter her, and she needed to rock her cunt over it several times before she tried to ease it in.

“The trick is going to be getting me to stop,” Kara half whispered, her jaw going blissfully slack when Lena’s tight little opening finally acquiesced to her rigid heat.

Lena barely managed to fit the tip of it inside her before another throb traveled up Kara’s length and a rush of warmth splashed over her fluttering inner walls.

“Now why would I ever want that?” Lena murmured, salacious in how she allowed her lips to graze Kara’s just to share her shaky exhales of excitement. She found it sexy, that she could provoke such effortless pleasure in a being that was bulletproof – The Girl of Steel who wouldn’t bend nor break for anyone, except for her, it seemed.

She exhaled the airiest moans as she encircled Kara’s shoulders with her arms and began a gentle back and forth to better open her cunt.

The friction felt good against Lena’s clit, and Kara was patient with her as she struggled to slot more inside. The alpha’s hands were soft and reassuring on her hips, and though Kara possessed such incredible strength, not once did she use it to try and force Lena onto her cock.

“We’re going to end up with a lot of pups,” Kara forewarned, her tone reflecting pride along with the tantalizing and confident musk of her alpha.

“Good thing one of us has infinite speed and stamina to run after them all, then,” Lena teased, already picturing a horde of miniature Kryptonians zipping about their future home and getting into mischief. Maybe it was the sentimentality of it, or the sheer unguarded longing to make the fantasy a reality that loosened Lena’s grasping muscles and slid Kara all the way in.

The sudden fullness startled them both, and Kara held her, gasping into her throat at the all-encompassing silk that wrapped tightly around her girth.

“Nothing in my entire life has felt as good as this,” Kara rasped, pressing kisses to the underside of Lena’s jaw before nipping. She puckered her lips over Lena’s pulse point and sucked languidly to make the skin beneath her tongue blush.

Lena moved in back and forth undulations before bouncing on Kara’s thick cock. She spent moments getting acclimated to the girth and the way it stretched and filled her pussy. Gasps and moans came from her lips as she took much deeper strokes while clinging to Kara’s shoulders.

“Get used to this, Kara, because I plan to put out for you all of the time. You might be super human, but I’ve been verysexually frustrated for five years—“

Kara groaned at their sexually fulfilling motions and stared as her cock disappeared into Lena’s cunt. She seemed almost dazed from the sight of it, her eyes glazed with animal lust that caused her to stand up and move them into the bedroom.

“I can’t tell you the number of times I dreamed about stretching you open, Lena. I’m not proud of this, but one of my biggest fantasies was that you would let me inside your pussy any time I was in the mood.”

Lena loved getting insight into Kara’s thought processes, which hadn’t all been innocent or oblivious to their sexual tension. She didn’t complain as Kara carried her on her cock, or put her down just to press her into the mattress.

Having someone with god-like strength on top of her was a secret kink, in part because she liked feeling a little helpless and dominated.

“I want you to do that — make full use of my cunt every day,” Lena uttered, her voice breaking from Kara’s thrusts that pinned her down and pounded her tight inner walls open.

She gasped from the faster acceleration and whimpered at the surrender of her pussy. Her pelvic tension slackened off from the rough slams of Kara entering her, holding nothing back as they rutted both romantically and sensuously.

“You’re going to feel like my omega, Lena, even before my claim is on your throat,” Kara professed and secured Lena’s hips with both hands to hold her in place.

The beauty of being the mate of a Kryptonian was how weightless Lena was in the alpha’s hands. With her shoulders pressed into the sheets, Kara raised up her hips to hold her at the perfect angle for penetration and proceeded to pound into her with full demanding strokes that quaked her limbs with pleasure.

The broad tip of Kara’s cock rubbed into the soft creases of her cunt and Lena whimpered at the continuous friction. She worked for it, or at least made a valiant attempt that only resulted in Kara flexing her dominance by growling into Lena’s throat. The submission of her omega was purely sexual, and Lena’s raunchy moan cut off as bliss tightened every muscle in her body.

She came undone with little more than the persistent plunge of Kara’s member prodding into her most intimate places, and the contractions of her cunt proved overwhelming, along with Kara’s guttural elation as she erupted against her cervix.

If their goal tonight was to truly get her pregnant, then Lena held no doubts that Kara was capable.

The surge of hot fluid kept the fluttering spasm of Lena’s pussy going, and she used Kara’s momentary euphoria to hook her ankles over her tanned hips to continue riding her length.

“I’ve always felt like I’m yours Kara, I’ve just been waiting for you to show me that it’s true.”

Something about her breathy confession evoked the strongest reaction in Kara’s alpha and Lena whined as she experienced the erotic heat of a knot beginning to form. She tried to glimpse it between her thighs, where her soft pale lips were now a rutted and glistening rouge from their insatiable movements.

“Kryptonians are only able to knot with their life-mate, Lena, so now you know you’re mine.” Kara’s sultry words tickled over the pale column of Lena’s throat, and she held Lena’s gaze so she understood the importance of what was transpiring.

The sublime feeling of being stretched out in increments clouded Lena’s mind and it took her a while to grasp what Kara was saying.

“So, this is a first?” Lena uttered, her hips rocking of their own accord to ease the addictive ache of being so thoroughly opened.

“Something I can only share with you,” Kara promised, touching her forehead to Lena’s as she began a steady and slow thrust that bumped her tip right up against the intimate resistance within Lena’s cunt. The sensual grind of their bodies kept Kara sheathed in her chasm and their mouths found one another’s in a building desperation as Kara strained to control herself.

They threaded their fingers together, breathing slower as the knot held and Kara groaned in another release. By Christmas morning, after spending all night exploring their new relationship, they were still knotted together – and very late for the festivities at Alex and Kelly’s apartment.

Upon landing in the living room, their niece Esme popped up from where she was seated under the Christmas tree with a mountain of presents.

“Kara, Lena – look what Santa brought for me,” Esme shrieked, holding up a dinosaur nearly as big as her and a set of dolls that resembled her family. She put the toys down to take Lena’s hand and looked her straight in the eye. “Did you get everything you wanted for Christmas this year?”

“Oh, everything,” Lena assured Esme, touching the place on her throat where she wore Kara’s mark under her turtleneck.

Happy to provide validation, whether you were just insta-in-love, or "platonic" BFFs for 84 years like Lena and Kara. 😂 Congrats to you both!

The only logical trajectory after the terrible finale. 😁 Thank you! This was supposed to be more rabidly Jealous Lena and less family fluff, but then I enjoyed writing the family stuff... and here we are. And of course Esme had to get at least one dino! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!

Haha, yep! And a happy new year, too. 😉💙

Lmao, thank you! I think she'd totally be peeved on Lena's behalf.

I really wish I could continue every single story immediately and still write all of the new things, too. 😂 It's a daily struggle to decide what to write next. Thank you! I thought that was going to happen, as well - fic played out a bit differently than planned, haha.

There could be more, or something new. I definitely want to write a more extensive post season 6 fic at some point, but I haven't narrowed down an idea yet!

Well thank god for the validation of proposing before dating!😂😂😂 that’s what me and my wife did 😂😂😂😂

Daww but that’s the perfect holiday gift. Kara going from “wait you like me?” to “will you marry me?” in ten minutes is fantastic and everything both of those dorks deserve. Loved the family at dinner all in support of Lena and then the soft sex! But most importantly ESME GOT THE DINO HECK YEAH! Merry Christmas🌟🌟

Rocket
