The more I work with resin prints the more I see similar things you learn with making the 3D models themselves; namely painting the prints is not too dissimilar to changing the material on your 3D model so you can see the details and potential errors better. I'm becoming less and less enamored with the unpainted resin prints, the resins (that I've used so far) simply tend to just suck up too much light when you photograph them, and just as much when you're simply looking at the prints to check how they turned out. So, once you paint, the surface detail just pops, so do any errors or striations on the model.
Clearly there is a slight striation line, on the horizontal rear of the fighter. It's not bad but it's there so, I hope, it can be rectified by tweaking the supports as I believe I know what caused it. Beyond that, the model printed beautifully and those details do indeed pop.
This paint is going to be focused in popping those details so I decided to just go with a straight up military green look, sans any camo so the focus is on those surface greebles. The basecoat is Tamiya Gray Green (IJN) spray with a top coat of dry brushed AK pigment faded green. The rest is washes of Mig pigments Africa dirt and AK pigments dark earth and black soot. I still have some more work on it but the paint is already close to a wrap. I'm very happy with how the details turned out, this one is already fun to paint and weather.
I'll have more soon. Thank you for looking and don't forget, you're always welcome to comment or drop a like on these posts so I know you're all checking them out.
Best!
