The Option Not Taken

And sorry I could not take both,
I held to the ledge, as long as I could
And took the option less taken
Death
An option chosen for me
But an option all the same
To die, to sleep
To sleep, perchance to dream
And in these dreams, I find myself
A new world, a new life
A reason to try again
So brief a life
That death is only a pause
A short rest in a long journey
There I waited, in the darkness
But there was nothing to fear
For death had nowhere to lead me,
But back to the light
As I waited, I remembered
A sun kissed tan
A loving smile
The way you hold yourself
I knew you at once
How could I forget
A time long past
But these memories faded,
And I began to forget
I was pulled into the light
And I wondered what to expect
And into bright sunlight, I burst
But there was no joy in that light
For my journey had only begun
Just let me sleep
Just let me dream
Just let me die
