• expressions & body language: conveying a monster's mood, feelings, demeanour, and personality. adapting human expressions to non-human faces + adapting non-human expressions to human-like faces + drawing inspiration from different animals + posture & stance.
• special effects & décor: adding cool or unnatural "special effects" and decorative elements to convey a monster's theme or aesthetic. a collection of ideas + a discussion of how to choose which special effect to use for the design you're working on.
• drawing & painting fur: rendering different types of fur in different ways + choosing what the fur of your character should look like (and why).
• textures, materials, & shapes: their role in character design. rendering different textures and materials + utilising different brushes + choosing textures and materials for a specific design, character, or aesthetic + using shapes that convey the monster's vibe or personality.
• monster ears: ideas for designing monster ears + making them express the character's theme, mood, and identity.
