Thanks for sharing. As someone who was also homeschooled and grew up in a very conservative household, I can relate to this. As a guy my experience was very different but still very unpleasant. I've always struggled with opening up about my experiences so it's very encouraging to see someone else do it.

My sister went through a very similar experience, and thank God she got out in time as well. You mentioned somthing your mom said afterwards. Something falsely given will not land. I've had two of my best friends get into relationships with manipulative guys like that, and I had no idea how bad it was until they got out. I used to wonder why people didn't just leave relationships like that early on, but I've learned that it progresses so slowly, that you don't even realize you are boiling until it's too late. So I definitely don't think you are stupid for it. I had a similar upbringing, and the way you were describing your thought processes early on was exactly the way I used to think when I was growing up. I never went through a traumatic relationship, but I can absolutely see how easy it would be to fall into that, being a people pleaser, and having such a sheltered childhood.
