Choices in Vulgar Reverie

Hey everyone!

Today I wanted to talk about choices in Vulgar Reverie.

In the beginning of development, choices centered around if you wanted to lean more into the Strong or Passive path. So far, these have just equalled to text variations and nothing more, but now that the versions are ramping up, I feel it's more important to start providing more in the way of tangible outcomes as a result of choices!

There are a few ways I could go about doing this. Firstly, what I wanted to avoid was having choices that split the scenes that are currently locked with a "under development" disclaimer. However, if it helps in terms of making save files to come back to them after when they are ready, I can take some time to add those in to scenes I was going to have variations for in the first place!

Secondly, I could make "fun" choices that have no effect on the scenes or story itself, but acts as a fun little extra bit of content to read through or add some extra context or information about the characters themselves.

Finally, I could just make choices in the scenes themselves of how you'd like to approach the order or what is available based on previous choices. For example, if you said to Amelia you would enjoy group sex, one of the scenes may involve an optional choice of inviting someone to join you both if that's what you want...

The first option that I suggested above would mean that there would be versions where Karman and I go back to previous versions and add more to previous scenes though with choices added, so a month of development would have to be dedicated to that a few times in the year if that's what you'd all like!

And when does the growth period ends? After the tree is fully grown with nothing but the trunk? As far as I know you should let the branches grow alongside with the trunk

During the growth process of young saplings, unnecessary branches need to be cut off first, right

Will some choices in the option 3 be kept for history and h-art? What I mean by that is for example, there's a choice in future version for Amelia to get a tattoo or piercings. Will that choice translate to next h-art's or will it be one time only like temporary tattoos or something

And how long will it take to finish the main story and what's the point of that if at the end you will be like "now let's rewrite that for the sake of having choices in the game"

I was amazed by everyone's choices. The one with the most choices is not the most greedy option, but the one that is most suitable for the game. Salute

It was a bit difficult to decide, but I’m going with option 3. Now, going back to previous scenes to add routes and choices seems like a good idea, but only when the game is more advanced, because if it’s done too early, I think it could give the feeling that the story is stagnating, even if there’s new content.. I've played many visual novels that chose to revisit previous scenes to expand on them, and as a result, in some cases, the main route ends up feeling weaker because the best ideas were spent on the side routes.

Could you give an example of one of these "fun" options you said won't effect scenes or the story? Overall I agree with others here that going back now would be a bad choice, but that it would be understandable if you took more time to developing alternatives for future updates.

I'd say finish the main story/route for now and when the main game is complete, go back and add new content/updates/choices.

I wish there was an option for 1 and 3! I voted for 3, but don't mind waiting! Is there any example you could give of what 1 would incur? Like a seperate scene completely if a strong or passive threshold is met?

I think going back to previous scenes and editing them would risk messing up the continuity. I think a variation of the second and third options is best.
