They were busking on the streets and soliciting attendance at their free concert when they debuted in 2013. K pop was a big thing at that point, but they were from a small company. Jungkook was only fifteen or sixteen.

Mark Ballard

100% agree with this🙌👏👏👏💜💜💜

I think a few things need to be clarified Jungkook joined bighit when he was 13. Korea used to use a different aging system where when you are born you are automatically a year old this, from what I was told by my father, was because of the superstition that if a baby were to die before the age of one it was considered bad luck on the family. Also instead of aging up on your birthday everyone in Korea ages up on New Years. So if you were born on December 31 you would automatically be 1 year old and then the next day on New Years you would be 2 years old even though you were actually only a day old. So when Jungkook joined he was actually 13/14 depending on if his birthday passed. Also they mentioned BTS being from a small company but didn’t really explain more. The company BTS is a part of was on the verge of bankruptcy before BTS, members of a former girl group they had debuted (which is most likely why Big Hit never had another girl group until becoming HYBE) were involved in a huge blackmailing scandal against a Korean actor I believe it was which tanked the company. That’s why they all shared a single room. That’s why they didn’t have the power and influence to perform on music shows. When they finally did get a spot they weren’t given a green room, they had to rehearse for the performance not on the stage but in the hallway of the building. They are the definition of started from the bottom when it comes to K-pop. Everything that’s happened for them was due to their hard work, dedication, and fans. As for the Young Forever being sung by Army, often when you go to K-pop concerts there are a group of people going around the lines passing out banners/signs and it will usually say on it “hold up during XYZ song” or “sing XYZ song when it plays” kind of thing so there was probably a sign that they each got saying something along those lines and everyone participated. Also another fun fact is Jin would sometimes drive Jungkook to school and from the age of 13 to now being 26 and Jin being the oldest he pretty much raised Jungkook even though he’s only 5 years older than him. Also I feel like there needs to be more info regarding the group they were originally supposed to be a hip hop group and instead switched to the K-pop group that you see now. They also had a show in America (the video you see of them asking people on the street to come to their concert) called American Hustle Life where they had to learn from people in the American hip hop community about what hip hop was and how they acted and what the “lifestyle” was like. Also they’ve come out with a handful of games one of which was BTS World that had its own soundtrack where some of the members collabed with famous western artists. One of the songs was called All Night and it featured RM, Suga, and Juice WRLD. As for ARMY most of them can be really nice but due to the sheer amount of people that make up ARMY you will have a lot of the angry haters that if you don’t agree with them they’ll come after you. Obviously you’ve gotten the hate comments and death threats but people have even been doxxed. But overall ARMY does a lot of good. Army as you saw often donate to charities and organizations all over the world. K-pop Stan’s in general as well as tiktok users had reserved tickets for a Trump Rally. Trumps team thought there would be a turn out of a million people during the middle of Covid and there were actually only 6,000 people that did attend due to the fake tickets reserved. There have even been ARMY in other countries that have used their love of BTS to bring awareness and change to atrocity that were being done by their country’s government, like in Chile where a girl started a digital campaign for another presidential candidate running against the conservative candidate that was often compared to Trump. She used many of the tactics that we do to support our K-pop groups like photocards of the candidate, posting K-pop idols on their campaign signs, doing cup sleeves, etc. to encourage people to vote against the other candidate and was a successful campaign as her candidate became the youngest president of Chile.

lol I watched this guide a million times .. thank you so much I am excited I don't know which one you should react to it first but I will wait gladly.

R875d

I'm super excited for this! I'm so happy the time has finally come where you will be reacting to their work as a group. First of all, I'd like to apologize for all the backlash you received from the post you made on twtter. There are different way's people can go about things and the way they did it wasn't right. As an army I understand wanting to protect the guys, but I also don't agree to the extent other armys will go to do that ( i.e hate comments and death threats ect.) there is a right and wrong way to get ones point across and I'm so very sorry you had to go through that... I am happy however that it didn't off put you on checking them out in the end. I also would like to mention, I love your honesty. Not everyone is going to like everything they do and you being true and honest about what you do and don't like is refreshing. I'm excited to continue down this journey with you and can't wait to see which song you decided on reacting to first. Borahae

Summer

To me its the other way around now... some Armies ruined it for me so much that I dont really watch any content related to them even from reactors I like. I tried to watch this but well I hope it worked for you. I kinda get it too why some are hesitent to check them out.

Niki91

OK, I'm now sure there is a whole branch ut there called Metal Army

Kill Bill

also newer armies recommend this but the suga and spice introduction to 7 menbers of BTS is has much more info and shorter !

Sarah Khalili

I actually cant believe the abuse they took....it also elaborates on why they were invited to the UN

Sarah Khalili

ive been around BTS for a while....1st saw them at london 02 2019 and wembly....some good mini documentaries i loved were nobodies to legends

Sarah Khalili

Ok. Tool and BTS on the same day, and it's not even my birthday yet. Thank you kindly for starting looking into two amazing groups. I also respect wanting to wait and make it on your own to prove you could do it without BTS. I'm here for you and have been so for a while now. You've got two great journeys ahead of you. When you get to BTS - Ddaeng, I hope you do watch one of the explanation videos from a Korean along side the viewing so you can appreciate the word play. DKDKTV has a great breakdown on Ddaeng and the what, seven different ways RM uses the same word in his verse? It's on par with someone riffing on "run" - 1) A sequence of cards 2) The verb to move physically quickly 3) To flee from 4) To control 5) A place to let people or things run around 6) The meme reference "...RUN" 7) Are You In?

The Talanton

You don’t know how excited I was for this, this guide is a bit long so thank you for doing it and thank you for giving them a chance. Looking forward to your reactions to their music 💜

Abbie

I'm so happy you're giving them a chance. They got me into kpop and even though I'm more a stay now, what they did for kpop is the reason we have groups like skz and ateez now. Their story is very inspiring. There are songs you will love and songs that you won't vibe with and that's just because of the range of genres they cover. Have fun and enjoy the ride 😊

Jay Barlow

I'm glad you started your BTS reactions. I like the way you break down song lyrics so I hope you will react to Spine Breaker and Baepsae at some point.

Melea

Also worth to say is BTS is the group that created the standarts for today's fan interactions - lives, variety shows etc. It could be said they are first generation YouTubers. And worth to mention is in the beginning you ask whether kpop wasn't considered good music for westerners. Well most of the world didn't even knew such a genre existed before BTS.

Kill Bill

I agree this guide is kind of long, but it's the best out there. The crackhead guide is fun but doesn't really give any information. The one with Suga was cypher pt. 2 but I think you should see them from 1-4 and then definitely the live cypher medley 2017.

Kill Bill

Sorry… last comment… Yoongi and Namjoon would often do lives to talk about the process of working on the albums. Yoongi did the first few and then Namjoon continued from there, although all the rappers have done behinds for their solo stuff.

Nicole

Ok, forgive me, my brain hyper fixated (yay, adhd) and I refuse to just delete this after typing it so here you go. Songs where Teddy was bopping along in order of appearance: On Euphoria Tear Joke Seoul Daechwita Agust D (side note, Suga’s clap backs to hater comments in his lives are legendary) Cypher Pt 2 The Last Nevermind Chicken Noodle Soup Ddaeng (such a good song, includes a lot of Korean cultural references) Daydream MAMA Just Dance Ego Epiphany Moon Yours OST Bapsae Begin Attack on Bangtan Still With You My Time Stay Alive Life Goes On Microcosmos Mic Drop Steve Aoki Remix Singularity Stigma It’s Definitely You Blood, Sweat, & Tears We Are Bulletproof: Eternal Serendipity 48:06 I couldn’t find this one Film Out Filter Promise Friends Black Swan Lie Boy With Luv Fire 2! 3! Spring Day Young Forever

SingingRazors

As for them being industry plants.. quite the opposite. The lights were literally turned off on them for one of their performances, but they still performed and gave their all. They had so much working against them and their rise in the west was completely fan driven. Much of the social media engagement you see from other groups now was pioneered by BTS because that was their only way to engage fans since the company was near bankruptcy. Because of this we were able to get to know them better as people and their likability drew more fans in. Of course, our relentlessness was a blessing and a curse. We would call to request their songs on radio nonstop, would send flowers and cupcakes. We would raise money for billboards and would post signs on city streets. It was very grassroots. As a result, many companies used us for engagement, radio station hosts would openly badmouth and be racist towards the guys, but we kept trying and did anything to get them exposure. Sometimes our ferocity gave us a bad reputation, but we just wanted the guys hard work to be recognized.

Nicole

Thanks for reacting to this… I subbed because of it! just a few minutes in, but since you commented on it.. Namjoon had surgery on his nose for a deviated septum a few years ago, that’s the only “work” he’s had done. But it was in the recovery for this surgery that he wrote Singularity for Tae in 30 minutes

Nicole

i'm a stay and never even tried to check out bts because of the fandom too. but i'm checking this out with you. hoping i don't hate them. skz is such a different style. hoping for the best!

Lindsey Lowman

I think suga’s song - nevermind is one you liked! The cyphers are amazing! Also for a group perspective maybe try - ON Kenetic manifesto -Black swan - Mic drop - Dionysus - Fire

Sarah wingrove

Outro tear live at Wembley is unreal! Feature the rap line on the their own! I think you will love it

Sarah wingrove

I don't think I've clicked on something so fast in my life as this notification

SingingRazors

Ah, reacting to BTS is a risky business ;) They have my utmost respect for their achievements, talent and hard work but I really can't bare listening to their biggest hits as a group, cause it is just a candy pop for the masses in my opinion (Dynamite & Butter being the best examples). However, when I discovered their solo works (especially Suga) I realised how much I misjuged them ;) I found few cool rap tracks of theirs though, like Ugh or Cypher part 3 (this live performance is fire (and has burnt in lyrics): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yE-4gjtKjyY&ab_channel=4bangtan). I hope Teddy will find some more.

Gosia Samosia

Just to add if you listen to Ddaeng make sure to watch the explanation video, there's a lot in there that a non Korean wouldn't understand. Also add Baepsae since he bopped pretty hard to the instrumental and I think he'd like the message

Tricia O'Brien

Thank you for this reaction! ✌✌You wanted names of the songs that you really got into. "Cypher 3" and "Ddaeng"...and " Stay Alive" were a few that I noticed. Yes, I watched the whole reaction 💜💜💜✌

Regina Reggie Dendy

The songs in the beginning that you were liking were Outro tear - rap line Nevermind - Suga The last - Suga Daydream - jhope

LINDSEY WARD

Honestly, the reason people push this guide is mainly because a lot of other ones are either older or don’t really show everything. The last part abt you thinking they were pushed by the industry is why I’m happy you reacted to a guide beforehand because a lot of people go into them thinking their shallow people that cheated their way to the top when in reality they are quite literally the most hated group by every other kpop fandom and groups (they’ve released a book recently detailing the bullying, hate, racism and xenophobia they’ve faced both from the west and other kpop groups that were considered their seniors at the time) They’re so genuine and because it took them a lot to get to where they are, too much even and yeah ARMY being protective may seem a little much but that’s because no one else has their backs in this industry. A lot of the songs in the video had the names in the top left corner but I still think the song to start with is Mic Drop ft. Steve Aoki (it’s where a lot of people start and it never disappoints) (Sorry for this long winded message 😅)

Emily

Thank you for reacting to this! I’m excited for your BTS reactions! I recommend On mv Black swan mv Tokyo dome medley live
