Fun fact: Yunho, Jongho, San, and Seonghwa we’re filming their drama, ‘Imitation’ AND Wooyoung was working on his performance for Artist of the Month for Studio Choom during Kingdom. Like not just this performance. It’s almost impossible to understand how they do it.

Yes every K-pop group that gained some kind of recognition deserves it. Because all of them put SO much effort into what they do day in and day out!! Ateez and Stray Kids are amazing in channeling all of that, although they have much to do on the daily (more than other groups since they produce their own stuff on top of that) they try to give it their all in every (side-)project.

I love how you were talking about recognizing the difference between the western music industry and the Korean music industry. I’m a music business major with a focus on international music management as I one day want to work for a Korean entertainment company and help manage K-pop artists. One of the things I noticed early on about K-pop is how much different their music industry is to ours. They are working non-stop you’re looking at like 8 hours of dancing and vocal lessons (not to mention those that are still minors and are also going to school), you’re looking at producing and recording music, then their regular live streams, you’ve got them recording variety shows, them recording their own solo content like vlogs, games, videos in general (like skz-code or run BTS), then you’ve got their own solo schedules because some of them are also doing modeling gigs or they are the MCs of weekly music shows (Lee Know is an MC on one of the music shows), then you have when they are planning for comebacks you’ve got rehearsing for the music videos, you’ve got them doing fittings for costumes and testing hair and make up, then you’ve got when they are changing concepts so that means dyeing hair which for Asians is really difficult (to bleach and dye my hair it takes about 8 hours for the full process) so for shorter hair you’re looking at 2-5 hours just for them to dye their hair, you’ve got filming for the actual music video, you have them shooting all the concept photos for the albums, then they have the comeback and for two weeks they are promoting meaning every weekday they are on a different music show performing their new song(s) (which does not pay very well for most groups you’re looking at I think it was like $150 per group), then they film and release a dance practice video, you also have fan meetings which usually happens two weeks after a comeback where they sit down sign albums play games or sing songs in front of fans, and then there’s the fact they also have to go on tour, come end of year it’s award show/end of year shows like the Christmas stages you saw of skz, those are sometimes held outside of Korea like mama was in Japan this year so that means flying to other countries all while trying to come up with what’s next. They are constantly going at full speed and it’s why you see a lot of idols burnout there have been so many times were idols pass out on stage or have to be hospitalized because they’re pushing themselves sooo hard with very little time to eat and rest between. The K-pop industry is an absolute beast of a machine and while it’s amazing it’s also super intense and kind of terrifying. I could and have written whole essays about the Korean entertainment industry. And this is specifically those that are mainly just idols. If you look at SF9 they also do modeling and acting as well meaning they do all of this stuff while also having to keep the schedule of acting and modeling in between. Stray Kids are a particular interesting group because they probably put out the most content for any group I’ve ever seen in the last 10 years that I’ve been in the K-pop scene. Before them I think it was BTS. Stray kids are literally not human because they are constantly pushing forward like Chan has health issues partially due to his lack of sleep and taking care of himself but he’s a big boy and will make his own decisions but even the company JYP were like hey you should rest and Chan was like nah I wanna keep working and like I respect the grind idk if he does it because he feels like he’s on a roll or if like me constantly being busy and working distracts from negative thoughts we might have and so it’s easy to just burn yourself out rather than think about what’s going on inside your brain idk but at some point that man needs to rest. Like you joke about wanting to punch binnie for being such a good rapper I wanna punch Chan for working so hard and not taking better care of himself.
