Stray Kids “I’ll Be Your Man” Kingdom Performance

THIS WAS INSANEEEE

Stray Kids “I’ll Be Your Man” Kingdom Performance

Comments

Oh no, did you take the vid down? It says it doesn’t exist anymore :(

Erica B

Hi, are u planning in seeing them in July? So happy I managed to get tickets, also if you there wanted to extend a friendly hellon as I enjoy your channel. Thanks 😁

Elena N

You were so focused on changbin and him not being in the center light that you missed the part where they sacrificed the heart to make the statue of the boy come to life...

femalelp (Kara)

Wait til he finds the fan cams there is a Changbin fancam of this where it is specifically focused on Changbin so there is a camera that does focus on him during the ending rap just not this video

김수미

Every time I watch this performance, and i watch it a lot🙈, i always follow Changbin rapping at the end cause he just slayed that part... without him it wouldn.t be as impressive and his expressions are top! So yeah.... didn.t even notice camera wasn.t focused on him cause i was always looking just at him through the others 😂

Aura Munteanu

I'm not sure if this is the reason but I know Bang Chan added Changbins rap in the end later to add to the tension so maybe he didnt have the planned camera angles for that reason 🤷‍♀️ also Changbin is a king!

Joey

Congrats for noticing how the choreos does match each beats so well, reactors usually don't notice that ^^ In Korea rap does have its importance but have to admit like you said not as much as singing. Stray Kids is considered more as a "rap group" and was getting hate because of it (in addiction to the fact they make very experimental music compared to others groups). You should have seen the reactions when The tortoise and the hare dropped ... tbh i'm a kpop fan since 9 years and i never saw any group getting so much hate just for a single song. People were saying stays don't have "any vocalist on their group" and that "kpop is about singing first before rapping". In this performance they wanted to prove they could sing too ! Also, I agree on the fact cameras don't usually focus on Changbin. He isn't a dancer like you said that's why we tend to see Danceracha way more during performances. However they still could have included another camera angle here cause his rap was just mindblowing and he definitely deserved his time to shine !

Ella W

i cant get over this performance. i watched it while kingdom was streaming and keep going back every few weeks its insane! this and the love poem stage ... (which always makes me cry lol)

Leonie

Since even Seungmin was surprised to find this out, I thought I'd mention that the demons image as well as its voice were both Felix. Also, as far as Changbin coming from a "privileged background", it just means he left a nice, comfortable lifestyle to work his arse off and live in a tiny, shared dorm for years. Haters are dumb.

Cute But Evil

I can't not say this; anyone else think it looks a bit like Puppy was chewing the heart backstage?

Cute But Evil

You are correcting and what you're correcting is an accent. Teddy is British, he has an English accent, that is how we pronounce Seungmin's name after hearing him and others say it repeatedly so we know how it is pronounced.

Cute But Evil

they sacrifised the bllod and stuff and gave it to the kid and it came to life

bubble

I dont know if anyone shared this with you yet, but the rapping at the end that changbin did in this performance, is actually 2 peoples rap parts in the original song. So while the vocal boys were singing the high parts (and bang chan was singing the HIGH backing parts behind them) changbin was rapping for two people at the same time

Cassandra Leigh

Look for fancams of Changbin to see him solely through a full performance. A lot of songs have them. Also did you notice Chris (Chan) out that heart in the status’s hand. This is the show Hyunjin isn’t in, but that status has his necklace so they made him a part of their performance even though he couldn’t be there. Hans vocals on this get me every time! Binnies rapping is unreal! But the overall emotion is this just shows what winning kingdom was guna mean to them! Love that your loving straykids more with ever track you react to! Watching a stay be born is the best thing ever ! 🤟🏻🤩

Terrena PS

Changbin is my king, so glad you appreciate his talents and hard work. ❤️

Rebecca Fugitt

They actually had a hand in the camera placement for this. Like their team is responsible for directing that with SKZ which you see in the behinds. To be honest I wouldn’t be surprised if Changbin takes a step back to let the others be in front. But there are fan cams for these on YT for each member so you watch just Changbin the whole time. Also Changbin was actually a dancer first. He was even recruited for dance in his first company and was the president of the dance club in high school when he joined JYPE. Now obviously he switched his focus to rap but he is actually a very accomplished dancer. 😊

Lauren_001

Thank you for the reaction!Agree with you about Changbin. He became my bias after they performed 소리꾼 life on radio show. And there I was impressed how much “weight” vocally he brings to the songs, and now when I watch SKZ’s MVs I only see Changbin:) but I love them all:)

Tetiana Korchak

So I'm looking and don't see any comments about the story of this performance... it's basically about them trying to save/bring the kid back to life (you first see him with Changbin as a memory)... they try to go to heaven to negotiate and when that doesn't work they trade their lives in hell. So at the end they all die, and you see the kid come back alive in the white robe. There's some speculation that the child represented Hyunjin, with them (and everyone) missing him and wanting to bring him back.

Theresa Galles

Kingdom is a competition show between 6 different groups, for each presentation there was a specific objective/theme given by the program's production, in addition to the individual objective of each group. Since Stray Kids is mostly known for their amazing rap line, in this song the objetive was to prove that they are capable of amazing vocals too. To reinforce that intention, camera work was planned to visually highlight whoever was singing at the moment; that's why Changbin have that "background" shot in that part where he is with Han and Seungmin.

María Jesús Pizarro

the rap-scene in korea is huge! i dare to recommend one of them. his name is BEWHY and i´m 100% sure you will love everything he does! trust me :))

Claudi Sky

Oh man, did my life change when I discovered "fan cams" and "full cams" lol. I honestly love them because you kind of get a peek behind the scenes, especially with the running around they did for the Kingdom stages!

Stay5678

I highly recommend these behind the scenes episodes to any Stay! Seeing the rehearsal process just solidifies the work effort of the group and the staff; these performances only last a few minutes but have weeks put into them. As a dancer, I LOVE watching them rehearse because THAT is where you truly see the passion for performing. It is also really cool to see Bang Chan doing his thing... I can't remember which performance they were rehearsing, but they were doing dance practice and they decided the music needed a little something more... so Bang Chan just ran into his studio and did his magic, then ran back to rehearsal with the updated track. Amazing to witness.

Stay5678

No, actually you are wrong there, rap is BIG in Korea. That's why we keep discovering so many talented rappers because there is a real investment in rap in Kpop. And it's not that Changbin is not recognized, it's the opposite, Stray Kids is already a trademark in rap because of 3racha. But here they took this song from a band which is known for crazy vocals and they wanted to show that they can pull that off as well. It's been a struggle for SKZ since they lost their main vocalist right in the beginning. Since they are not really recognized for their vocals, they pointed that out here. They don't need to highlight their rapping, that's already their thing.

Mirac Martinez

I think the impression given was that Changbin wasn't front and center during the 3-part section, but to be fair, it's worth knowing that on this show, everything is ONE continuous take. There are several cameras, and often 2-3 sets and side-sets, but it's all happening at once. If you watch behind-the-scenes footage, you'll see members running from set to set to prepare to be where they're supposed to be (especially during Mayfly's 'Wolf' performance). They practice _with_ the cameras so they know where to focus and be and how to move relative. There's no mistake that in that moment, Changbin wasn't going to get the full focus no matter what he was doing, because everyone else was doing stuff, too. Also, Changbin is recognized as one of the fastest rappers in kpop right now, and SKZ are one of the leading 5 groups of the 4th generation. There is and has been hate for nearly every member for different reasons, mostly undeservedly. As a fan of the group it's hard to see/know that they struggle with anything as individuals, but it's also part of the industry. Given that there are full-on variety shows (Show Me The Money) for rappers, while they often exist "underground," so do a great many solo artists simply because they aren't part of a group. Finally, the knife swinging is obviously part of the "show," and it's a re-used prop from their opening number for the show, which is the only performance that Hyunjin was in before all the crap surrounded his appearance. The story will mean a lot more to you if you watch the background stories about it (there are several) and if you see the other contestant's live reactions to the performance you'll know how well-respected Binnie's skills are among his peers (including bestie Wooyoung from ATEEZ, also on the show).

Kay Popped

Fun fact, Changbin was dancer leader in his high school and originally wanted to go for dance, but realized he had a talent for rap. He is quite a good dancer though! He isn't one of the main dancers, so he isn't center very often. This song is in a difficult key and usually anyone who covers it will lower the key. Stray Kids did not. They felt they needed to respect the song and do the original key. The original group, BtoB, was shocked they did that. In their rehearsals, Seungmin and HAN worked very hard to hit those notes. HAN even damaged his vocal chords and stopped talking for a while, so he mimed everything. That was funny. You may have noticed, Hyunjin wasn't present. He only did the first performance on Kingdom and then went on hiatus for several months. SKZ didn't say so, because they weren't allowed to talk about Hyunjin during that time, but Stay theorized this performance was for him and Bang Chan said "your theories are right", so maybe? So, the story is that the statue at the beginning represents a lost loved one and Stray Kids vow to sacrifice anything to save him. They go to the extreme and make a deal with the devil to break down the gates of the afterlife to save him. They sacrifice their heart and give it to the statue, which comes alive. They all collapse at the end and the boy in white, formerly the statue, comes to thank them for their sacrifice. The theory Stay had is that Stray Kids were saying "we will do anything to get Hyunjin back with us". I agree that the camerawork wasn't awesome during this show. Many times we missed awesome things that we only noticed later in fancams or behind the scenes. Very annoying. But I don't think it's a case of Korea favoring vocal over rap.

Star Dust

Last comment I promise, I don't want to seem like I am trying to be annoying or correcting, but they way you say seungmins name is quite wrong. You say it like See oong min, whilst the eu sound is just one sound, though no sound I can compare to right now. Watch this video to learn how to say all the members names: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ytoS7BvvUY0 Though without the long spaces between each part of their names.

pigZie

About if Korea, or the korean audience, or kpop audience doesn't appreciate rapping as much as in the west. In korea there is a lot of people that love rap, and they have their own rappers and communities, that are actually very big in korea, but those crowds and artists are very seperate from the kpop world, and they tend to be quite spiteful against kpop idols, claiming that they aren't real rappers. On the other hand, kpop fans in korea tend to like rapping, but they don't care for it as much as they care for good dancing or singing, and so they also don't really see that big of a difference between really good rapping, and just decent rapping, hence rapping like in I'll be your man, isn't really focused on, and kind of more seen as ''Oh cool a fast rap'' and not much more. It's kinda sad that it is this way, since the people that appreciate rappers like Changbin, most of them don't really differenciate between him and most other just okay kpop rappers, and the people in korea that truly know rap, just gloss over it and see all kpop as people just reading their lines.

pigZie

About Changbin not being center of the dancing, that's simply because he is mainly a rapper, and dancing isn't what he is the best at. Lee Know, Hyunjin and Felix are the 3 best dancers of the groups, so they tend to get a lot of attention in dance breaks, and their lines are usually less hard to do, since they are mostly accompanied by more complex dancing.

pigZie

Not gonna lie, I had a pretty annoying and angering day at work, and all I could think of was coming home to join your Patreon just for this video (and will not just say for this month). Love your enthusiasm and videos.

Ashley K.

If you're ever interested in watching the episodes for Kingdom they are free to watch on Rakuten VIKI. The behind the scenes extras are fun to watch - especially for the Mayfly unit.

Marshmeo

If you want to see some behind the scenes instead of the whole kingdom tv show that focuses on other groups as well, Stray Kids put their own kingdom episodes out that breaks down what they did for each performance. And since it’s on Stray Kid’s official channel, it might not get blocked on YouTube. https://youtu.be/8PS4KybT9KM Here’s the episode for I’ll Be Your Man. It shows the preparation for the arrangement and choreography and practice.

Rona L

I got my 22 yr old brother into SKZ, he even went to the concert with me in Chicago a couple weeks ago and was the TALLEST mf on the floor that I could see lol his bias is Changbin as well and he about near passed out when Bin started spitting, it was glorious. I can't stand that he's one of the members that gets a lot of hate because he's so fucking amazing, powerful and TALENTED. A force to be reckoned with!

koibitto

So basically they created the Philosopher's Stone haha

Linnéa Kobel

In these kinds of competitions, in kpop the whole performance is the centre focus with some of them having a bit of extra time in the limelight. Usually, the kids themselves say what they are comfortable with. Stray Kids have a kind of creative freedom that is rarely seen in the industry so they were able to have a say in every part of the process, from start to finish, also the way this was filmed. The kids also see 3racha as their centre, pretty much. Also, if you look at the reactions from the other groups taking part in the competition, you will see how they are really in awe with Stray Kids' rapping! But you are right, it is still something that isn't put as much focus on (rapping for rapping's sake instead of being pretty doing it) because it is not as aesthetically pleasing! (I recommend Unpretty Rapstar as an example for that, as the industry is literally telling them: you might have the talent but you don't have the looks...... They go hard, especially the girls!)

Linnéa Kobel

Fun fact: Changbin actually trained as a dancer first. He is also really flexible, likes Pilates next to the gym and he is insanely agile as a dancer!

Linnéa Kobel

For real, Changbin has this bad ass exterior but a soft marshmallow filling. That’s why we love him.

Stay5678

Also please react to Stray Kids Wolfgang, which I love Changbin rapping in. He's my bias too. Thank you!!

Serena C

They have three of the groups that got together to compete with the other three groups on Kingdom. Stray Kids, Ateez, and Btob group name is Mayfly. Each group had to get their rappers to rap, and their dancers to dance, and their singger to sing, to compete against the other three groups. which they won all three. Because you love the rapping please react to the rapping part if you don't mind. Thank you for your reaction.

Serena C

YES! I was FURIOUS when his performance was either just, not talked about, or even ridiculed. Like.. WHAT???

Matilda Nord

The funny thing is that changbin is the most down to earth, chill guy ever. He seems like he could be angry but he’s super sweet! Haha

renok

honestly it really frustrated me when no one, even within the fandom, gave changbin the credit he deserved for his rapping in this song. he not only performed two of the original rappers' parts by himself consecutively, but then just for the sake of it carried on to the end of the song. it drives me mad that everybody forgets in the original song the last 15 seconds are entirely vocal driven, but in skz's ver changbin continues to rap until the end.

turnuptae //

I like that you point out that Changbin’s dancing is rarely highlighted. He has actually stated in behind the scenes content that he started his trainee days as a dancer, then started singing and his singing coach suggested rap because he had great diction. He says that he really owes that coach lol, but in reality he is a triple threat (quadruple, when you add in producing) just like the rest of 3racha. I agree that Changbin is underrated but I personally believe that 3racha are going to have a big impact on the kpop industry and music worldwide. Now that StayKids have signed with an American label, there will be more opportunity for collaborations and exposure. They are each so talented at such young ages, the sky is truly the limit!

Stay5678

I can’t believe they got last place for this performance too. Granted I wish they did this without the competition aspect of it and more or less just to show their skills. I think it would be cool if they had something like kingdom and queendom but more just the groups having fun and not having to really compete. We also need more of the sports that they did too. That episode was fun

Matthew Trocinski

My love for this performance is too great and now i have a teddy reaction to it 🥹🥹🥹🥹

Racha Dahou

I just very recently got into Stray Kids and your reactions are making my day every week. It's fun to hear you occasionally "fanboy" but keep your honesty regardless. I'm also learning about their discography through you and the comments so cheers for that! I was very impressed by Seungmin's vocals in this, and he continues to amaze me; I say watch more videos where he shows off his talent (his SKZ Records, individual live performances etc are all very great). Changbin's rapping never disappoints as usual! I am very happy that you are enjoying these performances as much as I have, and it's always good to hear your genuine comments. I loved Stray Kids' twist on the performance, especially after learning how it apparently has a deeper meaning for them (although I'm sure someone else would explain it better than I can) and their emotions while singing really add to the story. I would recommend just checking out their SKZ Player and Record videos in general. I've been going through their old music videos these days, especially after I realised there is a sort of ongoing storyline that seems to still expand, and it just speaks to my literature-loving heart. Watching them in order is really something! There is also a Meme Song video for Stray Kids that I find absolutely hilarious, but it might have too many inside jokes, so I hesitate before suggesting it. Worth keeping in mind though, just for some giggles. Keep up the great work!

Tuneday

"did anyone else notice?" Me sitting here ha ing seen all the kingdom performances about a million times "yes, yes I did, but please for the love of God let us have praise on changbin for a while longer" Also, two other things, yes, it is INFURIATING that they don't pan to Changbin in the last part, not only cause he is amazing and doing the lord's work, but he is also doing the work of SEVERAL rappers. In the original it's not just one rapper doing that part, and here Changbin is, slaying. This man can do nothing wrong when it comes to rap, holy shit. I'm really looking forwards to you reaction to Mayflys rap unit 'Playing with paint', where Bangchan, Han and Changbin works with two other rappers and are just, brilliant as usual. And if you feel up for it, check the other two units out to, 'Love Poem' which has Seungmin and two others (who are both amazing singers) belting their fucking hearts out in one of the most beautiful singing performances I've EVER seen, and 'Wolf' with Felix, IN and Lee Know working with a bunch of others pumping out a FANTASTIC dance performance. The idea was that three groups would work together in three different units, Rap, Song and Dance, and Mayfly, the name they (Stray Kids, BTOB and Ateez) chose for themselves won every single one. As they should. They were all magical.

Matilda Nord

Hyunjin hiatus was roughhh

OhAnn

Something that might put context into this performance, if you notice, Hyunjin wasn’t there. And you won’t see him for any of the Kingdom performances after Miroh. Someone spread a rumor that he bullied people back in high school, and because bullying is a big concern in Korea, JYP took him out of the group until the scandal could be proven false. Which, of course, angered the rest of the members. The members couldn’t publicly address the issue or talk about it or show Hyunjin support. For the performance the 7 members made rings for each other. But on the statue of the boy is an 8th ring, supposedly for Hyunjin. So the performance could also be interpreted as Stray kids trying to publicly say that they support Hyunjin, they will stand by him, even if they have to go through hell, even though they were banned from verbally showing support. Luckily after a few months the rumors were proven false and Hyunjin was allowed to resume with Stray Kids. But this was after Kingdom completed. (It should be noted that a lot of people don’t like JYP)

Rona L

The kid was the statue come back to life after they sold their souls to the devil (Felix). They all died at the end so that the child could live.

Angela

I agree about how annoying it is that they didnt pan the camera to changbin when he was rapping at the end its quite frustrating On a brighter side kpop has a thing called “fancams” which are basically footage or videos of one member only throughout the whole performance So they have the cameras that recorded everyone And then each member has a camera that follows him only throughout the whole thing And they upload these videos separately Here’s changbin’s fancam from this performance https://youtu.be/ilVi-nDfOvM Its also by mnet so it will also get blocked on youtube And about the last part the vocals were first han and seungmin and then chan and in Great reaction as always🔥🔥 Cant wait to see u react to the rest of kingdom performances Also if ur interested in seungmin’s vocals he performed a song called love peom with 2 other singers also as a part of kingdom i highly recommend it 😍

ItsReeka

When I tell you that I spit out my lemonade when I heard my name in regards of the password, I'm not kidding 😂 I wrote down most of my opinion in the Youtube comment already, but I wanted to watch the actual performance to finish off my thoughts. I also wish that Changbin got more of a spotlight at the end bit, because it was one of his most powerful raps (in my opinion). As a person who played music for 12 years (I played the violin), it wasn't hard for me to notice that something was going on in the background while Seungmin and Han were singing, but it took me a few listens to actually understand what was happening. I love that you appreciate his talent so much because he really deserves it. He gets the hate mostly because of his looks, and because he is not as thin as a stick(which REALLY should NOT be a problem, but then you have korean standards) not usually because of his rapping. Changbin's stage presence is amazing, and his dancing is fantastic as well. Just think about the "popping" move in Maniac (the live performances of that move got me on my knees, but oh well), but as you said, it is usually not put into spotlight. Fun fact that I've read somewhere and seems plausible: Changbin actually auditioned as a singer, but his vocal teacher told him to try rapping because of his unique vocal tone. It was indeed Changbin and Han at the pillars. The original song is supposed to be a love song, made by BTOB, and it is one of their most difficult songs, and they mentioned (as they were also on the show) that they intentionally did NOT choose it because it's too difficult. Stray Kids put a twist on it. The story of the performance is about the little boy, who you can actually see in Changbin's black and white part, because he disappeared when the colours returned. Something happened to the child, and the stone represents him. They tried getting the child out of heaven, but heaven didn't let them, so they sacrificed their own lives to the devil(Felix) who gave his own heart to bring the kid back. That's the child you can see at the end with Chan. Genuinely enjoyed your reaction, will make further comments if I remember anything I might have missed out when my comment disappeared and had to write it again from scratch. You will love the Mayfly rap performance. Thank you for reacting!! ❤️

Edina K

Hi!! I want to explain the story more, the whole performance it's about how they are trying to save the kid's life you see at the end, it's a whole journey, they start mourning the kid and that's why they put flowers in the statue, then Changbing goes to heaven to pray that God gives the kid life back but it didn't work, so they decided to do more dark stuff, so when Han cut his hand to put his blood in the glass it was a sacrifice to enter hell, that's why everything turns red and there was like a demon voice in the background, the devil gives them a heart and they put it in the statue of the boy. At the end, all of them die for the kid to live. It has a deeper meaning but that's the easiest explanation. 😅

Maria Jose Barrios

i saw the video on YT first, You never disappoint !! Your observations are always very pertinent, especially regarding Changbin's talent, and Han too .... they are, in my opinion, two little geniuses who make the Stray Kids group great!!

Lizzy Lizzy

I never noticed he spun the knife in his hand HA amazing

Carmen

Still watching the YouTube version and ran here to see you posted the video reaction!😆. Love your reactions 🙌🏼

Bahar Namvar

Yesssss! I am so glad you are enjoying the Kingdom performances, they never get old.
