Cultural Changes
Added 2022-02-03 00:17:00 +0000 UTCI love a good cultural change, and I also love a surprise - this is why I never write the typical "Tom had never been to Japan before but he was always very fascinated by Japanese culture..." types of stories. And it feels like it's been a while since I wrote a big cultural change, although that's partly because I know it's sensitive territory and I only do one if I feel confident I can write it correctly.
For my upper tier patrons, I ask you: what sorts of cultural changes would you like to see me tackle? And what sort of plots, as well? Speak your mind here!

Any change of generic white guy to POC is awesome. Maybe do a pinch of time travel like one becomes a Viking warrior, Japanese samurai, nomadic tribesman (caveman stuff), Roman gladiator, etc.

2023-07-13 13:46:41 +0000 UTCYou've already done a Scot TF, so I think an Irish TF would be a nice complement to it. Also, a Swede TF (could be a Viking, or modern day) would have a lot of possibilities.

2022-02-03 07:10:51 +0000 UTCI have a very similar struggle with writing cultural stories too! But like I think every story of yours has been tasteful, hot (obviously), and non-stereotypical. In terms of plot, I always like having the cultural change can be a slow-drip that intensifies, like in Czech Yourself, and using things such as language or attire can be excellent ways to convey culture without having to spell it out. For ideas, I feel like Polynesian, Middle Eastern, and Indian are some I hardly see enough of.

2022-02-03 01:49:34 +0000 UTCLet’s get some “underrepresented” ones in there, huh? Portuguese, Italian, Indian, Middle Eastern…and I think I saw someone suggest Maori/Pacific Islander at some point. I think you've done a great job of walking that line and not stereotyping any of your characters before, so I'd love to see your take on these as well!

2022-02-03 01:03:30 +0000 UTCTo address your concerns about cultural representation and "accuracy" I think it has to be done with a certain element of care so you don't get into the habit of using stereotypes. I think in the past you've done really well at not playing into stereotypical characters in those stories where culture change is done. So just keep doing things the way you have been. As for ideas, you did a story involving a German culture shift a very long time ago. I'd be down to see something like that culture represented. Or something Japanese since you mentioned it. I don't have any plot ideas, but you always do very well with that aspect.

2022-02-03 00:30:13 +0000 UTCI’m down for cultural changes of any kind for sure! If you’re nervous about sensitive territory you could always reverse it and have a person get Americanized in a positive way!
