Commission - Guitar Pickguard "Divine Colossus"

This piece was one I was extremely grateful to be given complete creative freedom on  - the guitarist of a specific band (I'm not sure if i'm permitted to name them at present) contacted me after purchasing some prints earlier this year with an eye to getting a full piece done for use as the pickguard on his new guitar before a tour in Europe next year.

Obviously I was extremely interested - what made me even more excited was being given total creative freedom, with the only brief being something that communicated an esoteric or mystic/"divine" aspect. I enclosed four thumbnails I made to that effect, ranging from a relatively conventional pearlescent divine dragon to the much weirder solid red reaper set against the bg of pool caustics.

What I didn't expect was for C - the many armed deity - to be his selection, and I threw myself into it. This piece continues my ongoing fascinations with intense blues as marker of divinity or altered nature, rendering flesh that sits somewhere between mummified, skinless and hypertrophic and multiplicity of form all in one. It's extremely indulgent, and the rainbow corona halo and anointing star against the endless blue sky are the proverbial cherries on top.

This may be my final large scale painting of 2023, although I do have more in the pipeline, so we'll see. Merry Christmas to all who celebrate, and thank you again for another year of support - as we speak the Kickstarter campaign is entering the final 30 hours and will end sometime tomorrow evening - we've fully exceeded my expectations there several times over, but every little helps, and STL files for the statue AND custom sketch slots both are still available!

Thanks again,

Francine

This is so so so stunning, I am literally in love!! The many faces showing an expression of profound wisdom, compassion and solemnity, the arms and hands posed with such precise grace, the blue tentacles curled around them, branching out in the shape of smoke or fire twirling in the wind, the big eye at the figure's core staring at the viewer with unbiased curiosity... Idk if you have permission to turn this into a print, but if you ever do, I'll need to get one!!!
