The perfect Who story to watch on a cold, winter evening. Very much a comfort story for me this. Jon Pertwee and Katy Manning are just brilliant in this story together. They have such a wonderful, charming dynamic. Pertwee in particular was superb in this story (then again, he's great in every story). Equally believable whether he's being Earth's delegate or hypnotising the great beast Aggedor. I thought the plot itself was really well done and paced at 4 episodes. It was obvious from the start that Hepesh was behind it all, but the twist that there was someone from inside the federation working with him was really good. As someone has mentioned already, this story is a political allegory for the UK joining the European Union at the time and considering everything that's happened with Brexit in the last 6 years, it's more relevant than ever. I also really like how Hepesh's distrust of outsiders is paralleled with the Doctor's prejudice against the Ice Warriors. It adds a really nice dimension to the story and shows that the Doctor isn't always right. I also like how it develops the Ice Warriors and turns them from merely being big, scary monsters to a species with some depth and a proper alien civilisation. A very good story all things considered.
