Classic Doctor Who 8x05 "The Daemons" eps 3-5 full reaction
Added 2022-07-31 06:50:03 +0000 UTCI tried something a little different & recorded the reaction to all three episodes instead of breaking them up, but I broke up the video file due to size:
Part 1: eps 3-4 reaction
Part 2: ep 5 reaction + commentary
Enjoy!

“Five rounds, rapid.” One of the Brig’s most iconic lines😀. So much so, you may recall Kate Stewart using it to explain how she overcame the Zygon in New Mexico. Famous as well for the Brigadier’s calm, unflappable delivery, like he’s instructing a gardener to weed some roses, not a soldier to try to take out an otherworldly demonic gargoyle. Gotta love the Brig! And yes, my take is that our modern Osgood is likely the niece of this Sgt Osgood, inspired by his stories of being the technical bogging for UNIT, and so following in her uncle’s footsteps.

"Qui", "quae" and "quod" are the masculine, feminine, and neuter forms of the nominative singular relative pronoun, which in English is generally "who" when referring to people. Hence the in-joke of Miss Hawthorne giving the Doctor the alias of "the great wizard Quiquaequod". Like most fans of the 1970s and 80s who weren't able to see this story on its original broadcast, I first knew "The Daemons" through Barry Letts' superb novelisation -- one of the best of the whole range. The characters are much more well-rounded (especially Miss Hawthorne), the Doctor's rudeness is toned down a bit, and Azal is considerably more impressive than a loud-voiced actor wearing a latex half-mask and badly fitting tights. Still, for all the extra polish compared to the TV version, Letts also added one hilarious clunker of a line in the scene where the energy exchanger starts affecting Azal and Bok. In the book, instead of just telling the Brigadier over the radio, "The exchanger's working! It's bleeding off the energy," the Doctor then goes on to add: "This gargoyle creature is staggering about as if somebody's put some knock-out drops in its hell-juice!" Just try to imagine Jon Pertwee delivering that line... :D
