The Autons are definitely a lot scarier and creepy than the ones that appeared in Rose. Spearhead From Space is an excellent introductory story for Jon Pertwee.

2022-05-10 16:51:16 +0000 UTCRTD’s decision to use the Autons in Rose for the reboot in 2005 was a direct nod to this story, which as I said comes across very much as a reboot itself. Also, The Eleventh Hour also paid homage to Spearhead from Space with the hospital scenes and Matt Smith getting his new wardrobe from patient’s clothes. Lots of firsts in this one, not least seeing the Doctor naked! They were filming in an actual hospital, and when Pertwee saw that shower unit he simply had to make use of it in the story. Also, as far as I know, he’s the only Doctor to have sported a tattoo (legacy from Pertwee’s time in the navy - his crew mates apparently got him drunk for his birthday, and when he eventually recovered he found they’d tattooed a snake on his arm).
