The War Lord was played by the late great actor Philip Madoc. He appeared earlier this season as an ambitious politician. Madoc appeared in two more stories during the Tom Baker. Philip Madoc was one of those great British character actors that appeared in film, tv, theatre and radio. The Welsh born actor was also a scholar. His performance is stunning, his distinctive voice carries a hint of menace. Two more episodes to go. The Patrick Troughton Era is coming to an end. It also marks the beginning of a new era.
