'Afterlife' Song Behind the Scenes | DigiLuxe Sound Department
Added 2020-12-18 12:00:59 +0000 UTCI was asked by a patron how I achieved the sound.
The song 'Afterlife' is made up of samples from the song featured in ‘Information Superhighway’.
I bounced a version of ‘Information Superhighway’ without any percussion and reversed the audio so it would sound ‘dreamlike’. (Attached to post)
I then cut up the song, looking for usable chunks of audio that could be re-arranged and transposed to create a new song.
The samples are cross-faded so they can flow seamlessly from one to the other.
I rolled off some of the low-end of the samples so it wouldn't sound too muddy when there were multiple layers playing at once.
There is reverb on each of the tracks, they are set to the default settings.

If you want to create a song with a similar feel, sampling could be a good place to start experimenting. Think about what you want to sample too, as that will massively influence the sound.
